European Union Election Observation Mission in Zambia Chief Observer Cecilia Kashetu Kyange with McDonald Chipenzi shows off the General Elections and Referendum Final Report at Intercontinental Hotel shortly briefing
Electoral Expert McDonald Chipenzi has charged that Zambia under the Patriotic Front (PF) led Government has slipped into a mock democracy practicing.

Chipenzi said the recent Energy Regulation Board (ERB)’s public consultations on the proposed electricity tariffs increment by ZESCO has exposed how the country has slipped into practicing mock democracy of late.

The Electoral Expert added that ZESCO’s tariff increment has also exposed how state institutions are abusing public resources supposed to be for quality service delivery just to meet a mere “fixture” of the law and accrue easy financial allowances.

Chipenzi noted that it was clear that Energy Regulation Board (ERB) regardless of the directions of the public views and opinions in their submissions on the proposed electricity tariff increment, the Board would not have overturned the submission from President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who, in this case, was the alpha and omega on this matter as it was important for him to meet the conditions of the International Monetary Fund.

He said the fact that the President blatantly submitted that electricity tariff upward adjustment by ZESCO was non-negotiable and it was predictable that ERB would just rubberstamp the President’s submission and later conduct an academic consultative process for them to earn some allowances.

Chipenzi also noted as long as the electricity provider in Zambia remains incompetence coupled with political interference, lust for luxurious and extravagant conditions of services at the expense of service delivery to the consumers and over employment, it doesn’t matter how many times ZESCO will increase its electricity tariffs, ZESCO will never improve its service to the citizens.

He noted with anxiety that even the consultations on the International Criminal Court (ICC) outcomes may be manipulated in the similar manner public opinions, views and submissions on the proposed electricity tariff increment have been ignored or manipulated to suit the desires and interests of President Edgar Lungu should he also submit that Zambia must withdraw from the ICC.

“The recent Energy Regulation Board (ERB)’s public consultations on the proposed electricity tariffs increment by ZESCO has exposed how the country has slipped into practicing mock democracy of late and am afraid because even the consultations on the International Criminal Court (ICC) outcomes may be manipulated in the similar manner public opinions, views and submissions on the proposed electricity tariff increment have been ignored or manipulated to suit the desires and interests of President Edgar Lungu should he also submit that Zambia must withdraw from the ICC” Chipenzi said

  1. This UPND cadre Chipenzi can hung!!he is one of those bitter Zambians from bantustan areas who do not appreciate anything done by PF Govnt.
Chipenzi is a wrong person to give a neutral advice on this matter because he is a known UPND cadre.
MMD spent 20 yrs minus investing into power generation, hence Zambia witnessing the worst load shedding recently.PF is there now to correct those mistates.if tariff increament will result into more investment in power generation to completely end load shedding in Zambia, then this is a good move by PF Govnt!!
PLEASE CHIPENZI LET PF GOVNT WORK IN PEACE.ZAMBIANS WILL JUDGE PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU’S LEADERSHIP IN 2021.WE GAVE HIM A 5 YEARS MANDATE.SO ITS TIME TO WORK NOW.

    • What is this segregation in Zambia about bantustan area When did segregation happen I’m Zambia. Barotseland have been fighting for independence, for a long while now. Is this what you are referencing? Direct it to Vice President Wina.

    • Bembas seem to believe that they have the God-given right to call anyone who doesn’t agree with them as TRIBALIST. They call tongas tribal because 98% support upnd and yet 95% bembas support PF. They call Lozis tribal for speaking lozi amongst themselves and yet bembas only speak bemba, not only amongst themselves but to everyone else. WATCH YOUR BEMBA FRIEND….

  2. It’s a CHOICE between wearing a SALAULA BAMBA or a Jocky.

The Choice between HH & lungu is not about GOOD or BETTER, It’s a CHOICE between GOOD OR EVIL. FTJ’s street adults are now walking in the corridors of power.

    • “Africa doesn’t need strongmen, it needs strong institutions’: Obama’s address in Accra, Ghana.

    • @maloza Absolutely! I salute you! Its because of people like you I come back to LT! Its Dr Mushota who keeps away!

  3. Democracy demands that when you lose Elections you Concede defeat. There is a lot African Politicians must learn. Ba HH nachipwa. Mandela stayed in Prison for 27 Years because he knew he was fighting for a justified cause. And no matter how long it was to take, the Black South Africans were going to rule at one time . But what is Mr HH’s Struggle? To become President at all costs even when you have lost Elections. Are these democratic Principles? These man is a loser and come 2021 , if he will be out of Chimbokaila, he will lose again.

    • There’s nowhere where you must agree to a straightforward theft of elections. These pfooIs are the ones who expected HH to welcome them with open arms after they spent 14 hours trashing his home and defecating in his bed. Zambia is a failed state.

  4. @Perplexed:i totally agree with you.if HH was a democratic person,he should have conceded defeat after losing in 2016,then he could have been allowing conventions in upnd every 5 yrs, etc.
We have seen some dul1 upnd cadres here comparing HH to Mandela,KK,etc,is that being normal?those great africans fought the colonial masters so that africa can be independent.those days are gone.we in an era where voters decide who should rule them.in Zambia only ECZ declares the winner.but HH wanted Zambians to allow him into State House in 2026 even when ECZ declared Edgar Lungu as a winner-amazing!!!
BA KAINDE PLEASE STOP “DO OR DIE” KIND OF POLITICS BECAUSE IT WILL NEVER TAKE YOU ANYWHERE!!!HH,TEARS WILL ALWAYS BE ON YOUR FACE IF YOU CONTINUE DOING POLITICS OF PROVOCATIONS!!!LET ZAMBIAN VOTERS…

    • Ivy even if the petition was fully concluded Edgar was going to win and you’re going to say judges are PF. HH was not going to accept anything short of declaring him winner.

    • What is this segregation in Zambia about bantustan area When did segregation happen in Zambia.
      PF started tribalism

  5. Is this not the same guy who said it’s ok for Senegal to use JuJu witchcraft when playing football? What JuJu does he use himself?

  6. The post is about zesco tariffs but @ Njimbu u busy insulting people will zambia at one point become one zambia one nation some of u guys u have never been to a certain country where there is no peace or u just go there for peace keeping. I really not know where our zambia went wrong for people to be pointing fingers unto others.Father in heaven bless our mother zambia your people are lost today all turned into politics

  7. DE – MOCKERY!

Lungu has hijacked Zambia by stealing an election.

    LET THE PETITION BE HEARD!

That is what this thief is afraid of – THE TRUTH!

  8. The moment you justify one very wrong action to achieve a noble goal, what’s to stop you from next even more unethical action, or the next and the next? Nothing. This is what’s so dangerous about going down such a path. Indeed, those who fight monsters often end up becoming the exact thing they claim to be fighting. The world doesn’t benefit from this, only the person who has gained power as a result does, at least superficially. Ultimately, even that person doesn’t benefit when all is said and done. A person who attains their goal by sacrificing principles is a tormented, miserable person. They may seem to “have it all” from the outside, but deep down they hate themselves and what they’ve become. There is no peace. I believe karma eventually catches up to everybody one way or the other
