Hundreds of people on Monday afternoon attended national prayers for the release and good health of opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema and other political prisoners.
The prayers were held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka.
And Mrs Hichilema’s wife, Mutinta shed tears during the prayers for peace and unity.
Mutinta, could not hold her tears after Bishops and Pastors preached and joined in prayers with members of the public that Mr. Hichilema has undergone the most painful political treatment in the country.
Mrs Hichilema who was also prayed for by Bishop Chihana and other Church leaders, was later seen aided to walk as she kept on shedding tears in Church.
Several other political, non governmental organizations, and members of the public could not hold their tears and joined in solidarity with Mrs Hichilema.
Mr. Hichilema was arrested and is in prison on treason charges.
He has today, clocked 35 days in prison with five others.
If convicted, Mr Hichilema will be sentenced to death by hanging or slapped with life imprisonment.
Facts before the court are that Mr Hichilema whilst acting together with others did plan to usurp power and be received like a President at a traditional ceremony in Western province and that he did blocked a presidential motorcade.
He has however been acquitted through a nolle prosequi on the case of blocking a motorcade which the state had earlier joined to the treason charge.
