Zanaco go top, Lumwana’s fairy tale ends

Share

Zanaco took top spot of the 2017 FAZ Super Division table on Saturday for the first time this season on the day that saw Lumwana Radiants’ 2017 honeymoon come to a stunning end.

The defending Faz Super Division champions drew 0-0 at home against the arch enemy from the Copperbelt, Nkana, at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Nkana could have won it,though, had striker Walter Bwalya not failed to convert a penalty.

Zanaco move from 3rd to top displacing Zesco United who drop to 2nd but only on goal difference after beating City of Lusaka 1-0 on Friday when they took a 24 hours lead of the log.

But the big news was out in rural Lumwana where Lumwana Radiants fell at home and who are also on 14 points.

Lumwana, who had traded blows with Zesco in the battle for first place over the last fortnight, were beaten 2-0 by unlikely Nchanga Rangers to end their unbeaten league start to the 2017 season.

Martin Njobvu and Kasonde Bwalya’s goals’ ensured Lumwana fairy tale ride in their second top flight season came to an abrupt end.

That Result has left Power Dynamos as the only team yet to lose this term despite the pressure on coach Danny Kabwe after picking up two wins and four draws in the run-up to Saturday’s home date against Green Eagles..

Power won 2-0 at home in almost effortless fashion at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe against a toothless Eagles attack.

Fwayo Tembo scored a brace with goals in the 13th and 40th minutes to hand Power the 3 points and keep them in 4th place on 13 points, one behind the top three trio.
