Mrs Nalumango stresses a point during the meeting
United Party for National Development (UPND) National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango revealed that the opposition UPND will tomorrow participate in Africa freedom day commemorations through matches and peaceful protests across the country.

In a statement made available to the media today, Nalumango said the UPND’s participation in Africa freedom day commemorations will be in form of protests against the violation of human rights in Zambia.

Nalumango noted that UPND membership and the general populace have for a long time now been living in fear of the oppressors hence the need to unshackle the country from political and social bondage.

She highlighted that the Africa freedom day is an important day as it symbolizes people’s resolve to retain their freedoms especially political and social freedoms.

Nalumango stressed need for the current generation to protect and defend the freedoms and rights such as rights to associate and assemble as demanded for by the continental founding fathers.

The UPND National Chairperson has since said that UPND will use the Africa freedom day to speak against repressive laws in Zambia like the public order act.

“We will tomorrow participate in Africa freedom day commemorations through matches and peaceful protests across the country” Nalumango

  1. The only thing PF and ECL stand for is drunkeniness, stealing and hatred

    • And I have always felt so sorry for those sitted, waiting for EL and PF to free them from poverty…khikikiki…87% of Zambians will continue to die without living any income for their children, atleast for the next 40 yrs or so.
I left, I dont want a foreclosure to my kids’ future

    • This is the type of decision that “Dr” Mushota, PhD (Scottish Erections) would support. As for me, Zambia is such a sorry sight. A country that is going nowhere. Don’t blame the colonialists for the dull decisions that blacks have inflicted on themselves over 50 years.

    • H.H. Probably needs to answer for what he did. No one is above the law. It is Afumba Mombotwa and other barotse detains that we should worry for as they did not break any law.

    • @Nubian Princess, just what do you appreciate in this world. Had Hon Nalumango said the UPND is not going to participate in the event, you were going to say otherwise and now that she has allowed the Party to participate, you are talking nonsense! You remind me about my national service stint in the mid 70s of our kitchen staff who used to ask some recruits that ‘ na kupela bwali, was kana, na kupela rice was kana, nomba ulefya nshi? In kupele amato…..?

    • Just stay home if you have nothing to do UPND cadres.

Government will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from anyone – prison has enough room for all of you.

Mean while HH remains behind bars as GBM is still at large

    • Act Now
The events unfolding where Simusamba keeps on adjourning is beginning to look, feel, smile and taste like a crime against HH, his workers and others. As a peace loving people we can no longer seat and watch this whole calculated process unfold before us. Already there allegations that Magistrate David Simusamba today (22/05/2017) held a five hour meeting with Edgar Lungu and Kaiser Zulu at state house, which mean he LIED that he was sick.
The stress, emotions and divisions to communities is becoming unbearable, we should not allow a click to instil fear and hate in us. We should not allow them to take away our price less peace and happens. Therefore could ALL peace loving Zambians and others petition the International Criminal Court to look into what is happening in our…

    • “She highlighted that the Africa freedom day is an important day as it symbolizes people’s resolve to retain their freedoms especially political and social freedoms….” Welcome to the real world Madame. Imagine it had to take HH to be thrown behind bars for UPND to realize the importance of participating in these events….for more normalcy we should get GBM behind bars as well….then real peace shall return to mother Zambia….So prison can teach people who to properly conduct themselves!!!!

    • Thats what it means to be in opposition. Madam Good Call !!!

HH is for boycott, boycott …. everything which itself shows lack of maturity

    • IF YOURS IS TO CAUSE TROUBLE AT THIS NOBLE DAY, YOU HAD BETTER STAYED HOME; THAT’S WHAT YOUR BOSS WOULD HAVE LOVED.
      ===============================
Ati protect ma’rubbish. When will you UPND su.ckerz grow up? You mess the day up and you will fill up the police jails. We have stopped joking now, any infamous behavior, we incarcerate. Tired brains.

    • Nalumango, you better just incite you cadre to protest.

That way, only your cadres will be arrested.

If you join in that protest, you too will be arrested unless you have got clearance from the police.

I see you cfined in a cell if you take that root.

  2. Agreed. No need to be part of a sham… These guys don’t even know and/or believe in these special events.

    • Africa Freedom Day as is politically preferred is not all about celebrating African nations gaining of independence but also provides opportunity for expression of feelings by African nations/citizens on issues of governance within the range of bad to good! Citizens can participate in a march past if arranged that way with protest or praise placards and sloganeering on how a government is handling national affairs! Right to Freedom Of Expression and to be heard should not be curtailed or suppressed on this day so long its orderly and peaceful and its only good for the leadership to take note and appreciate the peoples’ cocktail of emotions in national interest!

While African governments call it Africa Freedom Day in most developed countries its called “Memorial Day” in honor of the…

    • contd…. fallen freedom fighters, service men and women in security establishments, while individual families gather to remember their departed loved ones as most are seen visiting Memorial Parks!

  3. What has changed all of a sudden? UPND didn’t realise the importance of these National Events until now simply because their small god is behind bars? Its really sad cause UPND thinks Zambians are dull, but we all know its public sympathy they are aiming for period!

  4. I would rather not participate. Such holidays are only good for being with the family. These are meaningless holidays. What African freedom is there to talk about? We are heavily indebted and cant make our own decisions. And if we do get to make decisions they are bad decisions. We are still running to the colonial powers to run our economies. The leaders run to the west when they need medical attention. Our F!nance M!nister is happy to put us in more debt contracted from the colonial powers. Shameful.

  5. Africa Freedom Day in Zambia should be dedicated to “Free HH and UPND Supporters from Jail unconditionally”. Period.

    • WAILASHA. HH IS STILL UNDERGOING RE-ABILITATION. HH IS IN A CORRECTIONAL HOTEL. HE THOUGHT HE WERE UN TOUCHABLE. HE UNDERRATED THE INTELLIGENCE OF ZAMBIANS BY THINKING THE COUNTRY WILL BE SET ON FIRE WHEN ARRESTED. ZAMBIANS CAN SEE THROUGH COW-DUNG.

  6. OK! TODAY UPND HAVE THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSING BECAUSE THE OWNER OF UPND IS IN A FIVE ST*R HOTEL UNDERGOING MORAL REABILITATION AND NO ONE HAS TAKEN OVER THE PAYING OF CADRES?

  7. BA MAYO BANA LUMANGO. PLEASE KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. UPND DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANYTHING SENSIBLE OR IN ANYTHING THAT HAS A NATIONAL CHARACTER WITH IT. ONLY TRIBAL POLITICS. HOW CAN A PERSON VYING FOR THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND BEHAVE THE WAY HH DID IN MONGU? HAS UPND TOLD US WHAT HH WAS DOING? WAS THAT RIGHT OR WRONG.

  8. Oppressive laws? But you’re in government why didn’t you repeal the POA? Yes it worked for you then

  9. TWO USELESS POLITICAL PARTIES OUTDOING EACH OTHER ON SOCIAL MEDIA. BOTH ARE DISASTERS FOR ZAMBIA. PF AND UPND SHOULD BECOME EXTINCT BY WHICH EVER METHOD FEASIBLE

  10. JOIN ZAMBIA TO CELEBRATE AFRICAN FREEDOM DAY.

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 25 May 1963 foundation of the Organization of…….. The Conference called for the founding of an African Freedom Day, a day to “…..mark each year the onward progress of the liberation movement, …

May 25 is African Liberation Day. On this day, many African countries celebrate the hard-fought achievement of their freedom from European colonial powers.

Leaders of Africa, this is your day of reconciliation, recreation, reconvert and reconnection……. You may have differences with other local leaders or international leaders, kindly stop feeling that bitterness, indignation to others…. God loves you all. Many African regions are Christians.

    Jesus said,(matthew 6:12 )
    “”””And forgive US…

  11. The UPNDonkeys are no longer news but entertainment comedy. I mean who takes these donkeys seriously? They have become a big joke in all spheres of Zambian life. No more than competitors to Dangerous Joburg, and you still call that a political party? Come on donkeys!

  12. …And come 2021 there will be no UPND…we don’t need Anglo American thugs in this peaceful mother land…HH does not care for the ordinary Zambian but himself…and not even for his supporters…the reason why GBV has run away…

    • BIG JOE QND THERE ZILL BE NO ONE PQRTY STQTE IN WQ;BIQ, ZE QRE Q DE;OCRQCY QND ZE ZILL NOT QLLOZ YOU TO TQKE US BQCK TO THE UNIP ERQ NEVER,,,,,,,

  13. Useless Party for National Destruction has finally come to realize that they have always lived in isolation, operating like a satanic cult. Madam Nalumango claims that UPND membership and the general populace have for a long time now been living in fear of the oppressors. I live in Zambia and have never lived in fear and oppression because am a law abiding citizen. It’s only law breakers who will talk like Nalumango and HH. I think madam Nalumango we don’t need UPND to celebrate this event lest they spoil our event. Zambia is far much bigger than UPND.

  14. Africa freedom day is itself an oxymoron .The continent is flooded with despotic and abusive regimes with terrible human rights record and rule of law abuses.Ethiopia ,Zim ,Egypt ,Zambia ,Uganda ,Sudan,Chad and Equatorial Guinea qualify for “Africa Slavery League”

  15. It’s good to see UPND ‘join’ in to what matters to their electorate, instead of indulging their personal ambitions for a change.

Of course it had to be in protest!

  16. Which magistrate, Judge or any judicial officer you can mention, can let HH get away with embarrassing, disrespect, refusal to recognise, and an attempt on the life of the President (and his wife)? These are enforcers of discipline, remember?
They will let HH off for insulting the police and such minor misdemeanours, but not when he touches the President for whatever reason. Think you Tonkeys think!

  17. Those who were born before independence don’t see the value of freedom and independence? We suffered under the colonialists who now claim to be democrats.
This is for Zambians not HH or EL

  18. When will everyone realise that there is NO LAW saying that the president has be recognised.
If i am wrong point me to the particular law

    • Actually morally mature people do not play by rules, but by morally sound virtues. People not convicted in courts are not always INNOCENT, but their “Iawyer told the best story” (as Thomas Jefferson, the third USA president puts it) Jesus challenged the Torah because it always said DO NOT … However, he introduced the LOVE YOUR… That is the virtue. He who does not love can’t make a good leader. Hichilema doesn’t seem to love his MPs and the people of Zambia. He seems to love RULING ZAMBIA though, and he can exchange his life for that!

  19. That is UPND must ascribe to, even when Hichilema is walking the streets. I wonder what political freedom UPND has if its leader can decide for all its MPs to shun all public events, including representation in parliament.
