Deadlock in Zesco-Zanaco clash

Zanaco and Zesco United on Sunday played out to a deadlock in their ‘continental derby’ at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zanaco are Zambia’s reps in the 2017 CAF Champions League while Zesco are in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

Zesco had the better chances in their home game,especially in the first half, but poor finishing let them down.

The match also marked striker Jackson Mwanza’s first game back after a two month injury layoff.

Mwanza had a great chance in the 8th minute wasted when he,and Kondwani Mtonga, failed to connect with a cross from Fackson Kapumbu.

Idris Mbombo then sent his 25th minute header inches high from close range, and two minutes later, John Chingandu broke through Zanaco’s backline but sent his shot wide.

Zanaco’s best chance came in between in the 10th minute when striker Felix Nyaende’s header went wide before the match lost some steam after the break.

But Zesco breathed a sigh of relief in the 90th minute when Adamson Mulao sent two great chances wide.

Zesco stay put in 5th place despite gaining a point to 15 points.

But Zanaco rose to 3rd exchanging places with Nkana-all tied on 15 points.

Meanwhile, promoted Buildcon beat Green Eagles thanks to late goals newcomers from Mustapha Essuman and Clifton Miheso in the 86th and 88th minutes respectively after Anos Tembo had put the visitors ahead in the 7th minute.

The defeat was Eagles third in a roll while Buildcon bounced back from their 1-0 Ndola derby home loss against Forest Rangers.
