Govt. implores civil servants to engage in agriculture

Share

Government has  called on civil servants and small scale farmers in Mwense District in Luapula province to be active players in national economy development by engaging in various agriculture activities ..

Mwense District Commissioner (DC) Geoffrey Chipampata says Government through the Public Service Financing has  introduced affordable loans for agriculture implements such as tractors to enable civil servants and small scale farmers to participate in agriculture activities.

He said the country’s over dependence on copper is long gone adding that  full participation in agriculture by all citizens would contribute positively to the economic growth.

ZANIS reports that the DC said during the official opening of Lukwesa Agriculture Block show held at FTJ Primary school.

“Agriculture is a backbone of the economy hence the need for everyone to engage in agriculture production of any kind such as farming, gardening, livestock, aquaculture among others,” he said.

Mr. Chipampata also implored small scale farmers and entrepreneurs to engage in profitable and sustainable activities that benefit their communities and families.

He said emphasis should be in taking agriculture as a business adding through growing high value crops such as Rice, Soya beans, Irish potatoes, and vegetables if they are to realize much profit.

Mr. Chipampata also expressed happiness to note that the district is yet again earmarked for a bumper harvest.

He said though government has lifted a ban on export of maize, farmers should not rush in selling their produce to the briefcase businessmen but wait for the maize marketing season and sale their produce at good price to the Food Reserve Agency.

The Lukwesa Agriculture Block show was held under the theme promoting a green economy.

  1. This is an area HH can be of immense use to the nation.

Should he be released, either after 21yrs or 15yrs, he should consider taking a position of Minister of Agriculture. Zambia always support him in such a portfolio. Let him not waste anymore money on presidency.

    • What time will Clinics officers be in field weeding?
Better to be direct to P.Officers than general civil service.

  2. Munone, you are obsessed by hatred of HH. Munone , I have been to Mwense and I can tell you that the place is underdeveloped…
I was in Kawambwa and Nchelenge and these places are underdeveloped… The Luena block is stlll not worked on. I had a discussion with Kawambwa DACO and he told me the rice packs were not all utilized by farmers because the farmers are not much more in agriculture than fishing…
Munone , Congoleses buy food in Nchelenge and yet Nchelenge farmers don’t grow much cash crops.
Mwana , I can provide stats for you.

  3. Every time I read the news in zambia it is always something negative or something not working right under the illegal PF government. How can people be expected to enter farming without any skills in the area. It is like the mugabe regime which kicked out knowledgable farmers and gave land to useless cadres who have failed to manage farms. HH is a successful farmer who understand sthe industry very well and would provide the much needed leadership in his government to ensure a succesful farming sector. Meanwhile the boy from chawama has never even used a hoe in his life.

  4. So even the DC does not know the amount of bumper harvest expected from the district. How do you expect development if you are ignorant?
