THE Patriotic Front (PF) says the election of the party’s president at its general conference in 2020 will be open to eligible candidates but President Lungu is its preferred choice for the 2021 presidential election.

And former Copperbelt minister Mwenya Musenge is tomorrow scheduled to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee to respond to charges of bringing the party’s name into disrepute.

PF secretary general Davies Mwila said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that no member has been stopped from contesting the top position in 2020.

“The general conference will be there is 2020. So if our colleagues want to stand let them say so, they are free.

“And no one will tell them they do not have the rights. They have the right to stand. That is the position of the party,” Mr Mwila said.

Last week, Mr Mwila said President Lungu is the party’s preferred candidate in the 2021 elections.

But his statement received sharp reactions from Roan member of Parliament (MP) Chishimba Kambwili, who said the ruling party was making a political short cut and that the general conference should choose the man to lead to the next general elections.

Mr Kambwili contested the PF presidency in 2014.

Mr Lungu won the national presidential mid-term election in January 2015 following the death of former President Michael Sata in October of the same year.

Mr Mwila said he had provided guidance to party members on the PF leadership and direction and made references to other democracies in the world which had preferred candidates.

He said the party has already settled for its favoured candidate to lead the PF to the next general election in 2021.

“I guided whilst in Kasama, I said we had a preferred candidate by the name of Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, and I referred to America and the UK (United Kingdom) democracy that the incumbent is not supposed to be challenged. That is what I referred to,” he said.

The PF is in July next year scheduled to start conducting elections for party structures in the build-up to the general conference in 2020.

Meanwhile Mr Mwila says former Copperbelt Minister and Chimwemwe member of Parliament Mwenya Musenge will appear before the PF national disciplinary committee to answer charges of bringing the party’s name into disrepute.

“Mr Musenge will appear before the disciplinary committee on Tuesday. So I do not want to discuss this matter. The matter will be dealt with by the national disciplinary committee. So by Tuesday we will be able to resolve it,” he said.

Mr Musenge has been criticising the PF and President Lungu in statements published in the media.

  1. Everyone is free to challenge BUT our choice is President Lazy so you are wasting your time…thats Zambian democracy for you!!

    • There is No need.

The truth is , anyone challenging the President is likely digging their own political graveyard.

I have said it many a times, statehouse has no vacancy until 2026, even then the majority wouldn’t oppose a change to the constitution to allow Lungu another term there after,

If it is not broke why fix it?

      I am a PhD holder

      Thanks

    • By 2020 Musenge, Kambwili and Fine will be expelled from the party anyway. But they are free to dream that they?can contest.

    • How do you challenge a dictator? Or has this dictator now given in, given that he was not a fully developed dictator anyway. GOOD, LET’S HAVE OUR HARD EARNED DEMOCRACY BACK.

    • I have always said the electorate in Zambia is taken for granted. Discussing a candidate for 2021, four years before the appointed time? This is Zambia indeed; no regard for taxpayers and wasting their money. Do us a favour and get back to work.

    • Hypocrisy of PF bandits. This same Mwila has been yapping about visionless Lungu to be the only PF presidential candidate in 2021 elections, but today is misleading PF bandits.
Anyway, blind Lungu can be a president of PF bandits for ever but the Zambian constitution doesn’t allow him Lungu to go for a 3rd term of office. If violent PF wants blind Lungu in 2020, so be it. When it comes to the Zambian constitution, visionless Lungu is not eligible & below is the reasons why Jameson is barred from standing as president.

    • Visionless Lungu recently appended his signature to the AMENDED CONSTITUTION & NOT new one which states under article 35 of 1996 as amended that “notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this [amended] constitution or any other law a person who has twice been elected as president shall not be eligible for re~election to the office”. So blind Lungu is not eligible to stand in 2021 b’coz he has twice been president in 2015 & 2016~simple.
If PF insists on Lungu as its president, so be it but the country’s constitution DOESN’T allow Changwa for a 3rd term period.

    • As far as the 2016 amended constitution which was blindly signed by visionless Lungu article 106(3) states that “a person who has twice held office as president is not eligible for election as president. Lungu was “elected” twice in 2015 & 2016? No 3rd term, only in PF.
So Lungu & his PF bandits must also respect article 43(2) of the constitution which demands that “a citizen shall endeavour to [among other things] acquire basic understanding of this constitution & promote its ideals plus objectives”~simple.

  2. Oh please and when they challenge they become enemies of party. Mr mwila can you please explain what the PF policy is on presidential choice.

  3. Yes anyone is free to challenge …in theory .But in practice is will ruin your name and career in this “Museveni Republic” version 2.0.

  4. Why is PF the only party holding conventions. Never mind it being voting by a show of hands, but at least it’s an important small step toward democratic tenets. Hope other parties are taking note.

    • Atleast there’s democracy in pf while in others its tribalism ruling. They cant look further and beyond tribe. The issue which is likely to kill upnd is when another tribe starts leading them.
. All lawyers representing him are tongas
. All the clowns who staged a demo in SA are
      tongas
      .All the mps are tongas.
. All the bloggers who are pro upnd are
      tongas

And your call yourselves as a democratic party. Just wasting our time.

  5. The door is open. Anyone who wants to stand should start campaigning and shock every one with a preferred candidates.

Power is always contested! Mr Lungu should not be so comfortable as if he is the only man who wants to rule zambia.

He should be challenged and if possible defeated. Thats democracy.

I also want to rule zambia. Watch put people!

  6. PF is trying to tell the Constitutional Court that Lungu is eligible to stand in 2021 when he is not. PF is muzzling the court. Stop Lungu 2021 talk until the court rules please. A landmark judgement is coming and will destabilize the PF. They will have no candidate except what RB will impose on them.

  7. Please everybody js referring to RB as the policy maker, at the risk of creating controversy may i suggest that the Chinese are advising Government as they have experience with totalitarian regimes amd we are now depwndent on their loans.
Look at situation with ZNBC and market Lusaka council leased for 65 years to China Hainan, building ndola airport, road contracts, even carwash illegally built on ndola kitwe road. 51 mining investprs withoit mines just smallscale smelters. Its in chinas best unterests to maintain the status quo in zambia.
Minister fir Home affairs how does a chinese person be granted an investors permit to sell cooked green maize , kapenta

  8. Hon.Davis Mwila is right on this one.anybody is free to stand in 2020 at PF convention but as a party Edgar Lungu is their preferred candidate.all sound democracies world-over do this.
IF UPND WAS ALLOWING HH TO BE CHALLENGED DESPITE BEING THE PARTY’S PREFERRED CANDIDATE,NOBODY COULD HAVE BE BLAMING THEM.BUT THE PROBLEM IS HH HAS NEVER ALLOWED ANY CONVENTION IN UPND SINCE 2006!!!SO HH IS A WORST DICTATOR!!
for Chishimba Kambwili,he must let PF members fight for him than himself.recall, its PF members who fought for Edgar Lungu to be party president in 2014!!!THIS HOW PEOPLE WIN THE PRESIDENCY!!

    • I remember Bo Inonge Wina, I remember bo Raphael Mwale, I remember bo Benson Chali, I remember bo John Chisanga, I remember bo Mlozo Sichone, I remember bo Obvious Mwaliteta. These all fought for Lungu in 2014.

      Who is fighting for Kambwili?

Has Zambia got a shortage of Leaders for them to choose Chishimba?

Chishimba sold The railway line between Ndola and Luanshya and he can sell the whole Zambia if given an opportunity.

      Kima sholi.

  9. HH OVAL HEAD , WHEN YOU LIVE A LIFE OF UNFORGIVENESS, REVENGE FOLLOWS.BUT REVENGE IS THE DECEIVER.IT LOOKS SWEET ,BUT IT’S MOST OFTEN BITTER.IT ALWAYS COSTS MORE TO REVENGE A WRONG THAN TO BEAR IT. HE WO HAS NOT FORGIVEN AN ENEMY HAS NEVER TASTED ONE OF THE SUBLIME ENJOYMENTS OF LIFE. FORGIVENESS IS KEY TO YOUR PERSONAL PEACE….
START YOUR DAY ON THE RIGHT FOOT AND ASK YOURSELF ” WHOM DO I NEED TO FORGIVE”

  10. Good lord God almighty, this Davies Mwila is aesthetically repulsive. I have never seen someone whose facial features are so unpleasing to the eye! Maybe God was rushing out for lunch when creating this monstrocity and just bundled all remaining pieces of flesh on the table of creation and boom, its Davis Mwila wa PF. “Shibwelela kuli Lesa we mwaume iwe, uli neChiwa pamenso we mwaume iwe, alah ububi pamenso uli nga Chiwa”.

  11. Mr Lungu’s track record speaks for itself. He forced his way into Presidency, that machenism has worked for him. His minions have already petitioned the Constitutional Court to declare him eligible. His already setting himself up to stand.

  12. I understand that UPNDonkeys have not held a convention since 2006 (11 years), as required by their own constitution, not even a formality. For them to comment on other parties just proves me that they are DONKEYS indeed. Tell me which human would think like that.

  13. HON CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI,TAKE IT EASY.MWILA ON THIS ONE IS RIGHT.IT IS EASY FOR PF TO CAMPAIGN FOR ECL IN 2021 THAN ANY CANDIDATE.WE DON’T WANT TO SEE ANOTHER CONFUSION IN PF LIKE THE ONE WE SAW WHEN SATA DIED.KAMBWILI SHOW LEADERSHIP AS THE SENIOR MEMBER OF THE PARTY.REMEMBER WHAT YOU USED TO TELL KABIMBA ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS IN PF WHEN HE WAS THE SG.
THE SAME PEOPLE YOU ARE INSULTING TODAY ARE THE ONES THAT CAN MAKE YOU PRESIDENT TOMORROW.SOBER UP AND TAKE IT COOL DEAR BIG MAN.DON’T MAKE A MISTAKE OF MULENGA SATA,MILES SAMPA GUY SCOTT AND BASHI NONO.

  14. How can some one be the preferred candidate for the party minus party members being asked. Somebody only becomes a preferred candidate if members say so. And this applies to all parties. The SG of this particular party must just say that this is my personal preferred candidate and not to say the party’s preferred candidate. African politics is a big problem, because it is devoid of intelligence

  15. Five more years for President Lungu for development and stability. The others are young enough to wait!

  16. I am confused with regard to the constitution so i need help to understand so any help appreciatec from blogers from all political persuasions
As HE ECL and the spokespeople for the ruling party concur that zambia follows the rule of law, ehich is based on our Constitution. I have been told that the Constitution calls for a president to be sworn in by the chief justice or in the absence the deputy chief justice. If the rule of law is followed and HE ECL was sworn in by someone other than those prescribed then is HE ECL in law the president of zambia. This is not political i am genuinely confused. Can any lawyer answer thank you
