UPP leader Savior Chishimba has revealed that he broke down after visiting jailed opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema at Chimbokaila Prison in Lusaka.
And Dr Chishimba has charged that no sensible leader would wish to incarcerate a fellow human being like that.
He said he had just returned from visiting Mr Hichilema and that the prisons conditions are pathetic.
“Iam just returning from Lusaka Central Prison (Chimbokaila) where I had gone to visit my brother and comrade in the new struggle Hakainde Hichilema. Fellow compatriots, the situation is pathetic and no sensible leader would wish to incarcerate a fellow human being like that. I broke down, but he is the one who encouraged me to be strong,” Dr Chishimba said.
“We hugged each other for several minutes without uttering a word, but in tears. Though our comrade is trying very hard to be strong, I clearly saw that he is agonising – his spirit is dampened and ravaged. His eyes are in a state of weeping. He repeatedly said, “…my brother, I am innocent…I did not commit treason…I am innocent ba President Chishimba…”
He added, “State power I don’t have at the moment to release my brother, but such as I have I gave – PRAYER. We prayed for close to one hour together and raised a cry unto the LORD God of Heaven! Hon Mwaliteta was also there.”
“God desires justice for all! The PF regime will reap the injustices that they are planting today,” he said.
You don’t go on holiday in jail.
Those conditions if anything should be worsened.

I consider “jail” to mean a temporary, local facility where suspects are held until and during trial. A jail is not mearnt to punish since those inmates are not convicted. Therefore, the i.d.i.ots calling for punishment in jail should check their understanding of what a jail is, you are just ignorant like sh**t and you should be ashamed. A jail is not a prison. The authorities should work to improve the jail conditions, applicable to all inmates not only HH.

I don’t understand the Zambian mind! Did Savior Chishimba say anywhere that other prisoners are being kept in luxury, or that there should not be any prison reforms? Did I miss something? As I have stated before, when U5 appeared in court last time he looked devastated, I actually think that he looked like a cabbage, and advised UPNDonkeys to try negotiation otherwise U5 will come out not looking like a cabbage but he may become a real cabbage.
But hey, The President did say that he has power to pardon U5 after due process of the law and NOT before. Could be the reason why the defence applied for trial to commence, it’s probably a quicker process to get U5 released on pardon than the lengthy court process where the preliminaries alone are sure to take not less than 12 months!
As for Mushota, PhD, I understand her postings, makes a lot of sense if you understand her. She has very good points in her own satirical way and some of us are thoroughly entertained, always looking forward to her next post!

If some of you only knew the anguish that thousands of Zambians experience in deplorable prison conditions awaiting trials that take years to commence, your blinded allegiances would perhaps begin to assume some humanity – but then, it is too much to hope for people who cannot see beyond their noses until something bites them in the butt.

I HOPE HH WILL CHANGE THE PRISON CONDITIONS TO HOTEL STANDARD WHEN OR IF HE WINS ELECTIONS IN 2021. THESE JAILS IN ZAMBIA HAVE BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE WE GOT INDEPENDENCE. THE CONDITIONS WERE WORSE DURING COLONIAL DAYS BECAUSE AFRICANS WERE TREATED AS SLAVES OR ANIMALS IN JAIL.
ALL OPPOSITION LEADERS COMPLAIN ABOUT PATHETIC CONDITIONS IN JAIL; BUT ONCE THEY RISE TO POWER NO REFORMS ARE DONE – SIMPLY BECAUSE, WHEN IN POWER, THE REALITY DAWNS ON THEM THAT JAILS SHOULD REMAIN AS THEY ARE – THEY ARE PUNISHMENT CENTRES FOR OFFENDERS. THIS IS THE REASON WHY ARRESTING OFFICIALS DO NOT CARE WHETHER YOU WIN THE CASE OR NOT. THEY KNOW THAT BY THE TIME JUDGEMENT WILL BE PASSED ONE WILL ALREADY HAVE SERVED HIS OR HER PUNISHMENT.
