Zambia and Madagascar have reaffirmed their commitment to the PARIS Agreement on Climate Change due to the devastating adverse effects that the phenomenon has had on the two countries including the Southern African Development Community (SADC)and the entire African continent.

The two countries have expressed profound concern at the adverse effects that Climate Change has had not only on Zambia and Madagascar but the SADC region and the entire African region .

The two nations in addition acknowledged that this was real hence the need to show serious commitment to addressing its challenges.

Republican President Edgar Lungu , and his counterpart President Hery Rajaonarimampianina , who is in the country for a two- day Official Visit reaffirmed their commitment today during official talks the two countries had today at State House.

President Lungu bemoaned the Cyclone that hit Madagascar in March this year and commended the Malagasy government for the measures that it put in place to address the adverse effects of climate change on that country especially on its vulnerable communities.

The President also shared with his counterpart, Zambia’s serious experiences of climate change which left the country with serious power deficit due to reduced water levels in the country’s water bodies such as Kariba dam.

“I can assure you of Zambia’s support towards addressing these challenges, climate change is real. Zambia believes in the collective response to challenges presented by climate change and the promotion of a harmonised approach in the region on climate change issues,” the President said.

Mr Lungu also reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment towards efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security in the region and the African continent saying there is need for peace in the region and the entire African continent.

“There can be no sustainable development without any peace in any country. Zambia strongly believes that internal peace in African countries must be maintained.

“ It is for this reason that l wish to put it on record Zambia’s commendation to the Malagasy government for the positive strides that your country has made in rebuilding your country,” the Republican President said.

Mr. Lungu expressed hope that regional efforts will contribute to the process of consolidating peace and security in the region particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Lesotho and called for support from Madagascar towards Zambia’s efforts to bring peace to the region and the African continent.

And President Rajaonarimampianina also lamented the adverse effects that climate change had posed on Madagascar and the African continent in general adding that this is why Madagascar will stick to the PARIS Agreement.

The Malagasy President said Madagascar and Zambia were facing the same challenges caused by climate change.

Mr Rajaonarimampianina observed that every year Madagascar is hit by cyclone and drought but that his country did not relent in addressing the challenges hence the various measures put in place to mitigate the impact.

The Malagasy President agreed that Zambia and Madagascar shared the same vision on peace and security in the region noting that there can be no economic development in the region without peace and security.

“Madagascar fully supports all peace and security efforts in the region and Africa. That is why we fully support Zambia’s role in its efforts to promote peace and security to the Democratic Republic of Congo under the framework of the African Union,” Mr Rajaonarimampianina said.

At the same meeting, Zambia and Madagascar pledged to escalate bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

This is contained in a statement by President Lungu’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.

    • Big economies should be the ones running to sign this agreement. Ours have very little impact on global scale, we are not yet that industrialized to pose a threat to global climate. We only go as far as poluting Kafue River by KCM and some sulphur emissions at smelter, not at global scale though.

Having said that, HH would have blindly followed Trump as he has always been short sighted hence losing 5 times, as if its a joke. Now EL, The man of action, has been making independent decisions for the benefit of the country.
The whole Zambia, including HH in jail, support your stand Mr President.

    • If Trump’s America with first class productive industries & a magnitude carbon emissions emitter is not committed to the Paris Agreement, what about a non productive country like Zambia remain committed?

Your guess is as good as mine! This is a tale of dependence syndrome by non productive NGOs who only wait for free funding from developed countries like America.

Trump is concerned about making “America great again” by creating jobs for Americans, whilst Zambian NGOs are waiting for funding to feed their personal potbellies’ & nothing for the environment. Go to Kafue town@ Nitrogen chemicals, its stinking of toxins whilst NGOs remain gluttonous.
You can’t even produce a toothpick but busy with the Paris accord? Anyway how much is mealie meal today people answer this…

    • But committed or not…Zambia has zero impact. There is no manufacturing, and there is production in Zambia

  2. How about changing the awful climate of poor living in Misisi and Kalingalinga before you bore us with Paris Accord?Mscheew ,Lungu is all talkshops and photo-ops.

    • Two irrelevant fake countries talking big when nothing is happening at home, apart from harassing the opposition. What a laugh!

  3. I highly doubt it that Lazy Lungu understands what the agreement is about…this utterly lazy bum probably thinks its a free ticket to obtain loans

  4. The real elected majority president is ruling while others are languishing. It is admirable how this humble president ignores critics and hostile retards.
    Go Lungu! Kudos!

  5. I love this president, with all my heart. What fascinates me most is how easily he overcomes his enemies, like picking a stick from a box of matches. Truly God is with him and no harm shall come near him: a thousand will fall on his side, and ten thousand on his right side until even the most perverted creature shall confess that ECL is the chosen one..

    • It appears that your gonads are bigger than your brain, why not use your gonads to think before you spew out your garbage!
