PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu has challenged the Law Association of Zambia to form political party and stop hiding behind the curtain of a legal association .
Speaking before his departure to Swaziland at Kenneth Kaunda international airport, the head of state took a swipe at the legal body stating that they are abusing a very noble profession.
“Let them form a political party let them go ahead. Let them not abuse the profession it is a noble one,” President Lungu said.
“I challenge them to form a political party because what they are doing is politics”
He said it is totally unacceptable for LAZ to be playing politics.
“To abuse the law, the legal profession I belong to is totally unacceptable it is a very noble profession,” said President Lungu.
Why is it so difficult to listen to people with dissenting views? Why should everyone who says something contrary to your ideologies always been viewed as a political enemy?

In declaring a Threatened SOE (TSOE) under Article 31 Lungu thought he could achieve certain objectives which can only be achieved under Article 30 which provides for a Full SOE. Under a TSOE Lungu cannot abrogate the Constitution and in particular the Regulations should not violate the Bill of Rights. LAZ gave its own Legal Opinion on Article 30 and 31 and its up to a Court to rule the correct interpretation of these clauses. Just like in the Case of Ministers who illegally stayed in the posts, Concourt can interpret Article 30 and 31. LAZ’s interpretation of these Articles is correct and its up to Lungu to check it out with Concourt. The Threatened SOE (TSOE) needs Regulations. The Police needs Regulations to exercise their increased powers. Does TSOE abrogate the Constitution or not and in particular what happens to the Bill of Rights? LAZ says TSOE does no infringe on the Bill of Rights. What does useless and compromised Concourt say?

On the quorum issue LAZ is vague. They make a comment that they have “noted with concerns on whether a proper quorum was formed at the National Assembly when the declaration by the President was approved” and goes on to state that they cannot comment any further as the matter is sub judice. One of the meanings of sub judice is that the matter is under judicial consideration and therefore prohibited from public discussion elsewhere.
