Republican Progressive Party (RPP) Vice President Lesley Chikuse has said the reconciliation between President Edgar Lungu and the incarcerated United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema initiated by the catholic Bishops should yield positive results.

On 14th July, 2017, President Edgar Lungu met with the catholic Bishops at state house to spark dialogue for reconciliation with the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND)

The Catholic Bishops led by Zambia Council of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) President Teresphore Mpundu in their quest to find a meaningful dialogue on national unity and reconciliation successfully met the head of state who granted them access to incarcerated opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to discuss dialogue and reconciliation.

And Chikuse has urged the bishops to ensure that there is peace in Zambia and make sure that the opposition leader is released so that he can start preparing for 2021 general elections.

  1. Reconciliation over what? I’m amazed at the misuse of this term. In simple language HH whether he recognizes Edgar or not must not disturb the peace. I didn’t accept Rupiah as
my president but I kept that to myself. I avoided areas where he was visiting even if I was invited. That way I stayed out of trouble.

    • These churches were the first to release election results got on their pvt which confirmed that ecl was duly elected and elections were free and fair. HH if he is not an under5 should decline meeting these bishops because he did not agree to their pvt results. The other thing is they are free to visit him but the issue of releasing hh v?is the prelogative of the court.

    • We did not see your name on the ballot paper competing with Rupiah Banda? What are your trying to insinuate to justify PF injustice?

    • How do they reconcile when the Crazy Lungu is keeping his friend in jail?? It’s such a shame to see abuse of office. His time will come, we will make sure he is also locked up on corruption and abuse of office charges, to let the wife feel what HH wife is going through. Lungu has been surrounded by evil people he can’t see his failures.

    • IT IS THE RECOGNITION OF THE PREAMBLE TO THAT-LEADERSHIP, WHICH WILL YIELD POSITIVE RESULTS. THAT IS IF THE WRITER MEANT POSITIVE RESULTS. NON OF THE ABOVE WILL YIELD NEGATIVE RESULTS. PERIOD.

  2. Comment:and again these parties formed should be checked the level of Thier acquired knowledge because these suggestions of asking the bishops to make sure the incarcerated UPND leader is released in preparation of 2021 makes one wonder, is it the bishops, is it the courts, is it the grave yard tomb stone dare devil’s midnight crawler bazuka six feet under takers. last I checked I thought this case is in court and only the courts findings have the power to sentence or release him.RIP HH. I’m breaker the transcendent and I approve this message

  3. Outcome will be positive if the stubborn pompous brute Kaponya (HH) won’t misbehave.

And this time Jack Mwiimbu should not raise preliminaries.

    Hang Him/
    Behead (HH)

  4. Since the Courts are still handling HH’s case, the UPND should not expect the Catholic Bishops to force the President to release its leader, but rather this will be a grand opportunity for HH to publicly confess for his political blunders that have cast a divisive wedge between the Tongas and the rest of the tribes in Zambia. Zambia is a democratic state governed by the Rule of Laws as enshrined in the National Constitution.

  5. Reconciliation I process. It’s not just releasing HH or Lungu beginning to run this country instead of Kaiser Zulu who is the current President if you think about it. It is a process of going back and correct all misapprehension that occurred from the beginning. We have to get to the bottom of the root cause of what brought us to this stage. It shouldn’t be cosmetic. All parties must have a honest approach to the process.

  6. people who studied psychology will agree with me about one thing:HH is not going to take any dialogue as simple as majority zambians perceive.even the catholic bishops shouldn’t think as if dialogue between two parties is water in the hands no,HH is so melancholy to easily accept that he lost election and ECL won.unless the catholic bishops as well as other organizations get involved with full swing.HH has a strong character and strange such people always don’t make good politicians because they believe in revenge at its core value.

    • It is time he realized that he can remain where he is and Zambia will move on – as is the case is already.

  7. It is underfive to reconcile with himself. What is there to reconcile with ECL? He has no tangible issues worth discussing. If he does not like the face of ECL surely that cannot be a national issue?

  8. Reconciliation? With who? Hazaluza Hagain must reconcile with the judge in court. In fact, it will be the judge who will determine that “reconciliation!” Not Katolika!

  9. IF ITS THE COURT TO CONCLUDE THIS CASE WHY UP TO NOW NO DATE IS FIXED .IS THE COURT WAITING FOR FUNDING OR WHAT.THE PF JUST WANT TO KEEP HH IN PRISON LONGER FOR NOTHING. SO THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS SHOULD GO AHEAD

  10. Legally and constitutionally, neither the Catholic bishops or the president have powers to release HH except the judiciary as the case stands, that is if he is not found guilty. Everything else is simply a waste of time. Unless we want to twist the tiger’s tail by allowing the president to override the judiciary. Then we would truly open ourselves to absolute dictatorship. The Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature were created to be independent of each other in order to avoid abuse of authority by either one of the three government bodies. Let HH’s case be dealt with my the courts since his case is before them instead of twisting the president’s arm. Unless, we deliberately want to turn him into a dictator. This issue for the catholic bishops has more to do with convincing HH…
