Zambia U17 reach 2017 COSAFA U17 Cup final

Share

Zambia stormed the final of the 2017 COSAFA Under-17 Cup after thumping Malawi 2-0 in Friday’s semifinal match at Stade St Francois Xavier.

Strikers Lameck Banda and Martin Njobvu scored first half goals to end Malawi’s unbeaten record at the youth championship in Madagascar.

This was the first time the Young Flames were conceding goals in Mauritius.

Njobvu opened the scoring after just four minutes before Banda doubled Zambia’s advantage three minutes later.

Mumamba Numba’s boys are now preparing to face either South Africa or Mauritius in Sunday’s final.

South Africa and Mauritius face off later in the second semifinal.

  1. Clearly we have the best talent in Southern Africa in the young boys: U-17, U-20 and U-23. Are we investing properly in these boys so we can eventually win the World Cup? That should be our long range goal

  2. These are the proper Zambian National teams namely under 20, under 17; not the northern rhodesia team. …

  4. On the Cosafa site they reported that Njovu scored a brace but Zamfoot and Lusaka times are saying L. Banda and Njovu scored a goal apiece! What is the truth?

  5. I am happy our striking power it is unmatched at all levels but we need to sort out our defense as I have seen lapses with both the senior and junior teams.

  6. Zambia at all levels can win only when opponents fear going forward. Our defence at all level is poorly arranged and seem lost with any attack. Mozambique has shown us already at 2 levels. Look for a coach to nurture defenders. ZANACO last game in that CAF competition was lost due to defending in the own box all the time and am seeing it at National levels…..
