Minister of Sports Moses Mawere has hailed Zambia’s qualification to the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kenya.

Nkwazi striker Justin Shongo on Saturday scored two goals as Zambia beat South Africa 2-0 in Ndola in the return match of the final
qualifying round to qualify 4-2 on aggregate.

Speaking to players after the game, Mawere said the nation was proud of the team’s qualification to the CHAN competition.

“You have made the 15 million Zambians happy. It was not an easy task. I know you had home pressure to deliver qualification to the
expectations of Zambians,” Mawere said.

“We are proud of you. Remain disciplined and continue working hard at your clubs,” he said.

This is Zambia’s third CHAN qualification having participated at the inaugural edition in 2009 and the 2016 Rwanda tournament.

“Go to Kenya not only to participate but to compete. Hopefully bring the cup to Zambia because we are used to winning cups now,” Mawere said.

Zambia had eliminated Swaziland at the second round stage before meeting Bafana.
