Chief Justice Mrs. Irene Mambilima yesterday paid tribute to her late brother-in-law Mr. Geoffrey Alikipo who passed away on October 2nd 2017 in the United Kingdom and described him as a great leader who spoke for the rights of workers.

Mr. Alikipo was appointed Zambian Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in London where he served until his retirement in 2003.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom His Excellency Mr. Muyeba Chikonde yesterday led diplomatic staff to the Memorial Service of Mr. Alikipo which was held at 37 Oval Square Stevenage, Redeemed Christian Church of God.

During the tribute, Justice Mambilima said the family is devastated by the death of Mr. Alikipo.

“Geoffrey joined our family in 1981 when he married Naomi Chirwa my sister in 1981. Members of our family are devastated by his death. Uncle Geoffrey as he was fondly called, was a generous man. Many a time he would assist a family member add up for school fees. He was a type of man who would feel for you when you had challenges,” she said.

The justice said she shared a lot of issues affecting Zambia with the deceased adding that Mr. Alikipo made sure he knew what was happening in Zambia and he always took a position on many issues.

“At Home he is remembered for his out spoken stance on workers ‘rights as a Trade Unionist. He rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Zambia Congress of the Trade Union. We shall surely miss him, may his soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.

Preparations are being made to repatriate Mr. Alikipo’s remains to Zambia for burial.

  1. We have been duped at one point in time Zambians believed and praised this woman as been above board but now that she’s chief justice she’s shown her true colours everyone has a price. She’s lost her salt, she’s irrelevant to the cause of poor Zambians, she’s chosen to support the powerful. She even failed to swear in his new best friend the president.despite all that she still supports him despite her knowing that ECL didn’t win the elections and that the least she would have done was let the petition be heard.

    • Losing a loved one is always a humbling and sad moment. May the Good Lord bring comfort to the family during this difficult time. MHARIP

    • In hindsight Zambia’s judicial system appears more intelligent than the Kenyan one where a Chief Justice and a bunch of his friends overrun an election. Kenya has never been the same since. there are riots after riots and one candidate even after causing the nullification of the presidential results has pulled out himself in the rerun. Ndiye masebela aba! You can only overturn an elections when there’s refutable evidence of manipulation or corruption. The key word is refutable. The kenya’s case was one of making a name for himself. Very careless! I salute the Zambian judicial system. I just pray that God continues being with Zambia and gives it peace and saves it from ego trips of some people. So don’t blame Madam Mambilima or even the Constitutional Court.

  2. Irene Mambilima should be mourning about the death of Constitutional Democracy and the Judciary in Zambia. Irene Mambilima is the most corrupt and compromised Chief Justice in Zambia since Independence in 1964 .Irene Mambilima helped Lungu rig elections in 2015 and 2016. She was appointed Chief Justice by Chakolwa Lungu as a reward for helping rig the 2015 By-Election.With that record she assisted Lungu to be sworn in President thru an illegal procedure.Irene Mambilima is just an appendage of the Dictator and Sadist Lungu’s illegitimate Regime.

  3. Stop mourning and start working. Clean up the mess your judges have caused. Stretch those arms that you have folded because the rot and injustice are tearing this nation apart.

  4. Indeed you can only be as good as those that surround you.Look at Mutati he has been reduced to a laughing stock as a resu;lt of his association with these goons.Mambilima remains one of the most principled Judges i have met but serving under PF she will not be noticed as principled. That is the price we shall have to pay for for having misfits in power they will contaminate a lot of innocent people and this is just the begining a lot of people will be sent to prison simply for being in their offices at the wrong time.

  5. Why are we just reading what Mrs Mambilima said? Nobody else said sometbing worthy writing about?
Alikipo did not reire but was called back by late Mwanawasa. However he decided to stay in the UK because the wife was working and is still working as a nurse in London. The wife (Ireen’s sister) refused to go back to Zambia.

  6. Irene Mambilima is morning her brother in law, and you Tonga’s start insulting her, publicly in the media! My humble question is “if your HH had lost his close start in law, would you start insulting him?”. Tribalism will not take you anywhere! And comparing with other countries will not assist your HH to win any election in Zambia! The situation in Kenya is very different from Zambia’s, and that’s what you Tonga’s want to transplant to Zambia! Simple arithmetic: your HH got 3 out of 10, our humble ECL got 7out of 10! So who has passed the examination? One with 30% or one with 70%? This is in terms of provinces won! Not even taking the fact that your HH won in sparsely populated provinces like Western and North-western! And cheated in most of Southern province and the other two…
