LATE republican President Michael Sata’s death was very suspicious and it is imperative that government sets up a public inquiry to probe it, former UPND presidential spokesperson Edward Mumbi has said.

And Mr Mumbi said there was need for the government to extend a public inquiry to probe the deaths of both President Michael Sata and Levy Mwanawasa.

He was reacting to former republican vice-president, Enock Kavindele’s demand that government must set up a public inquiry to probe the deaths of presidents Michael Sata and Levy Mwanawasa, who both died while in office.

Last week, Mr Kavindele demanded that government should immediately come up with a commission of inquiry under “Public Inquiries Act” to investigate the circumstances that led to Mr Sata’s death.

Mr Kavindele said when President Sata fell ill many stories had been told and was flown to so many cities all over the world to seek medical attention.

He reiterated that since Mr Sata was not an ordinary person but an elected and sitting head of State and Zambians needed to know what happened to their leader.

Mr Kavindele justified his demand by stating that even President Trump had opened to the public the findings of the inquiry on what led to the death of J.F Kennedy.

Meanwhile, Mr Mumbi has backed calls for government to set up a public inquiry to probe the death of Mr Sata saying the move was long overdue.

Mr Mumbi said there were a lot of speculations concerning the death of Mr Sata and Mr Mwanawasa, adding it was incumbent upon the government to help respond to these speculations.

Mr Mumbi further said there have been a lot of unspoken suspicions surrounding the death of Mr Sata, saying that a probe was a must. “It will be very important for the government to set up a public inquiry to probe the deaths of our late republican Presidents, in that their deaths were not completely viewed as natural deaths,” Mr Mumbi said.

He said it was sad that the mystery behind the death of such a towering personality has not been reviewed yet.

He said that Zambians would be interested in knowing the circumstances that led to the deaths of the late Presidents.

    • Come on, I demand a public inquiries Into my grandmother’s death in mongu,,, and cholera outbreak in Chibolya after kappyongo abused people there

    • A meaningful inquiry that should be conducted to find out why, Zambia, despite boasting abundant natural resources, intelligent people, peaceful, still ranks as the 3rd hungriest nation on earth! Why!

    • First of all we need the Gabon Disarster findings before we embark on another, Zambians need to know what transpired before and after the accident!!

    • ONLY THE FAMILY MEMBERS SHOULD DEMAND SUCH ENQUIRIES.
ANY OTHER ENQUIRIES WILL BE INTRUSIVE AND MISCHEVIOUS.
I BET THE FAMILIES KNOW WHAT UNFORTUNATELY LED TO THE DEMISE OF THEIR BELOVED.

    • What about investigations into the fires that have been gutting our country?

Jonathan has done a number on the country.

Who do you really think is responsible for these fires? Is it a coincidence the wheelbarrows followed shortly after the fires started?

      #bringbackourmoneyyouthieves

    • You will have to do the same for Mazoka, Mundia Nalumino, Chigaga, Nakatindi, and that Catholic father from Kasama who died in a faked accident etc

    • Yes, this needs to be done. I suspect this man KK, so many politicians died in way that should’ve been investigated. Remember how Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe died, Kebby Musokotwane, Ramey Chisupa, just to mention a few.

    • No. This is just a sense of voyeurism. The two men were ill.
      Stop distressing their relatives.
JF Kennedy was shot. That is a very different matter.
This dullness is frightening when one considers that it comes from a former Vice President!!

  1. SATA died of prostate cancer, there is no need of inquiry.

But Mwanawasa did not die a natural death. Inquiry is needed and could have been done by now. A few weeks before he had announced that he was never going to borrow from IMF again, saying that he was going to do business with China instead. Three weeks later, he collapsed after eating lunch. That is very suspicious. I’m not saying he was poisoned. But many inquiries on leaders and famous people who died the same way like Yasser Arafat, Hugo Chavez and even Bob Marley revealed that these people were poisoned. So it is necessary that an inquiry be established. Although it’s too late.

    • Mwanawasa had a stroke in France and probably died from complications of the stroke. None of his kids or family said wr need an inquiry because they probably knew and were given information from the doctors. The man was morbidly obese and probably had unchecked Hypertension for years. Let them rest in peace and Chiluba was CHF. Please insist ona better healthcare systrm to know whats happening and no aimlessly doing inquires. Zambia has no capacity to conduct any advanced autopsies incase of a suspicious death. We can just ask the Hospital where he died to give us a report and end of story.

  2. Is Zambia that sophisticated to investigate such overdue and complex cases ? How do they investigate the causes of the recent fires and do we ever get an intelligent outcome ? I wonder how !!

  3. Are you kidding me… Sata was very sick and fragile and the only people who were in denial for political expedience were PF. Mwanawasa was called ‘cabbage’ for a reason… he too was a dead man walking, only MMD were in denial, again for their political survival. If there were to be an enquiry, it should be about why PF and MMD were hiding the illness of these 2 when it was obvious they were a ‘walking dead’.

Please spare us your cadre nonsense and give the money to the poor. Petition parliament to enact legislation that will prompt the ruling party to publicly disclose the sickness of a sitting president.

    • This is why I say let the Secret Service be professionalized. It is their job to look after the health and conditions of the president. Partisans must never be allowed to have a role in guaranteeing the health and safety of a sitting president.

  4. Another case of deflect from the real issues affecting zambia and bring up issues of no conseqence,
    Our economy is the ISSUE

  5. Every year we record a bumper harvest and export the surplus to neighboring countries, only to be classified as 3rd hungriest nation in the world!!!! Jesus Christ!!!! No wonder that stampede happened over food hampers. Ukulia bwino bane kulafwaika.lol

  6. Imwe mwe bantu sure you dont have things to do. Mr Sata was a serious smoker. What do you expect? Also, the man used to womanize great deal. Look at the number of his children. For Mwanawasa he was over weight in my view and he suffered from weight complicated issues. For me, these guys are gone. What we need is to move on and wait for judgment day when both myself, Sata and Mwanawasa will stand before the holy one of Israel.

  7. Nonsense, don’t we have anything better to do with public resources? Use those resources to fight the cholera outbreak in Lusaka. Let’s accept that it was Mwanawasa and Sata’s time to pass on to the other side please! Sitting Presidents are not immortal

  8. Fwabupuba ifyo naimwe, death is death whether green ,blue ,black or red,its death, let the dead rest in peace, if there is money give it those who are alive today, imwe ala.

    • Exactly my thoughts. One is born and the next is to die. Stop wasting resources. Backwardness at its highest order.

  9. And while we are at it, why not set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the untimely death of every Zambian who died due to lack of medicine in a hospital and lack of adequate medical care. At least these 2 could afford to travel overseas for medical care and died while surrounded by the best doctors money could afford.

The thinking capacity of us Zambians, especially those masquerading as our leaders is really questionable. Apparently these are the best and innovative ideas we can come up with, while others are researching how to put humans on planet Mars, and researching for a medical cure for HIV/AIDS and cancer. Go figure why we continue living in poverty.

  10. This is why IMF deny you loans! How many Commissions of Inquiry that have yielded no tangible results??!!! Let’s be serious with life! Sad the great man Sata died but life has to go on, there are other pressing matters at hand to attend to!

  11. Enock Kavindele and Edward Mumbi are f00ls. And when did Edward Mumbi become concerned about Sata. This is the f00l that hated Sata with a passion. I remember Edward Mumbi and Sata almost fighting at a polling station where Sata went to vote just before he won the 2011 elections. Enock Kavindele belongs to wasteful era where money was being thrown around like sand in the Chiluba era. The f00l wants to remain as relevant as possible. Kavindele, you people and your friends destroyed this country. We were only rescued by Levy Mwanawasa who in fact fired you. Edward Mumbi should just for a job from ECL if that’s what he wants. We’ve not forgotten how you ran away and took information to RB’s camp in exchange for money and a BENZ. You abandoned the PF at a crucial time and now you think…

  12. ONLY FAMILY MEMBERS SHOULD DEMAND SUCH ENQUIRIES IF THESE ARE REASONABLE.
ANY OTHER ENQUIRIES WILL BE INTRUSIVE AND MISCHEVIOUS.
I BET THE FAMILIES KNOW WHAT UNFORTUNATELY LED TO THE DEMISE OF THEIR BELOVED.

  13. There is more merit in investigating the fire tenders purchase, dodgy road contract awards, plunder of resources, cases of mismanagement that the sitting government is determined to sweep under the carpet than the passing of the two presidents.

  14. One way of siphoning money from an ailing economy. These politicians create fissures so that resources are drained from the coffers. It is an exercise in futility to start exhuming bodies that are resting in peace.Who is the right sense of mind, can break those expensive mausoleums just to retrieve information from dead bodies? We have spent a lot just to inter the dead presidents in harmony.Crooks will always create loopholes to extract money from the government coffers. It is frivolous and wastage of the worst kind to start extracting information on bygones. The nation has moved on.Our fallen presidents need to rest in peace. We need to wait for our own deaths.Death is inevitable. It strikes any time. The nation needs to move on towards important issues.

  15. Zambia cannot be the 3rd most hungry nation in the world. There is a problem with the source of data. Report done by a consortium of independent think tank indicated how much food we produce which we can’t eat nor export due to inconsistency in policy such as knee jerk export bans and reactive planning of storage. We are a very productive nation but we are let down by central government which, since independence, has created farmer dependencies. Every year, we know farming season is coming but inputs are late. When we produce, we know storage and other supporting logistical arrangements are required. And yet we fail to execute a simple strategy. Something is wrong somewhere and we need to fix this. Food is mbweee we only need to manage it well. Peter any suggestions?

  16. I agree with … @Alternative Facts Fake News above. No need for a full inquiry, what is only required is for the PF government to answer the question why they continually denied that Sata was very ill.

  17. I smell a rat. There is fire since there is smoke coming out after all this period of silence. Someone knows better.
Who whispered to Kavindele to raise these issues. Countrymen and women don’t discard this issue aside, let the crocodiles tell us what the hippos did last summer. Didn’t Chinua Achebe tell us that Things Fell Apart?
Crimes are committed and hidden. There are, however, those with intuitive knowledge sources to be able to know what happened……..Someone must lead the way and we will find the pandora box.

  18. Does it mean in this country, there is nothing to do? Somebody just wakes up and just says things that do not add any value to an ordinary Zambian. And some lazy idling minds just follow suit and sing the anthem

  19. IF GOVERNMENT WANTS TO SPEND LITTLE, THEY MUST SEEK THE HELP FROM WITCH DOCTOR AN OBVIOUS CASE LUNGU AND INONGE WINA WILL BE CAUGHT UP BECAUSE THEY USED LITUNGA TO KILL SATA, IF THEY SEEK PROPHET BUSHILI, LUNGU AND HIS MINISTER OF RELIGION WILL BE PROPHESIED, IF THEY SEEK THE HELP FROM TRADITIONALISTS, LUNGU, MUMBI PHIRI, LUBINDA, AND CHANDA WILL BE CONNECTED TO THE DEATH OF SATA AND IF THEY SEEK HEALTH PRACTITIONERS, LUNGU AND HIS DR OF HEALTH WILL BE FOUND GUILTY OF SLOW POISONING AND IF THEY SEEK OTHER PATHOLOGIST NO DOUBT THAT LUNGU AND BANDA WILL BE QUESTIONED ABOUT WHO POISONED BA SATA.
IF THEY SEEK DEDICATED AND FEARFUL MEN AND WOMEN OF GOD THEY WILL SAY HIS TIME TO GO WAS READY SINCE HE FINISHED HIS RACE OF , MWINE MUSH, COUNCILLOR, GOVERNOR, MP, MINISTER IN BIG POTFOLIOS AND…

  20. Waste of time. These pipo were sick even b4 became president. With Mwanawasa even KK advised the family to tell him not become president bcoz he was a cabbage. Sata collapsed a few days b4 elections, pipo were told, but pipo still voted for a sick man. Sata got sick from his rubish life style: sleeping around with women & having children everywhere, smoking like chimney! He looked a grey skeleton in the last days! So dont waste pipo’s time. Fix the economy, thats what u said u will do

  21. Shear waste of resources in a country that is still battling with poverty and starvation. Why copy from rich nations like America who have forgotten about hunger and poverty? It’s all nonsense! Please Kavindele, with due respect, I know you are rich and should not think everybody is as comfortable as you are. Just keep silent if you have nothing to talk about. Simple answer- Those our beloved departed former leaders of our country just died of illness – may their souls rest in peace- For it is appointed unto every man once to die and thereafter, God judgement.

  22. We told you the man was sick and a dead man walking. But you insisted he is well and working. The inquiry should be, who decided to ‘hide’ his death until after the hyped Jubilee celebrations. MCS died before 24 Oct in the United States.

  23. What will the probe and another waste of money. Here is the simple answer. We know Levy had a stroke and died from complications of a stroke. Then Sata died of advanced prostate cancer. U less you are goi g to dig their graves and do other chemical analysis of their decomposed bodies which i doubt will bear anything significant lets move on. If they had concerns the best way was to do an autopsy at time of death. This is like saying, we need to probe the pizza we ate years ago if was good or bad!

  24. Forget MCS ,lets probe the cholera deaths and spend money to improve the woeful sanitation in Chibolya,Misisi and Chipata .

  25. What if Chiluba? A former head of state “brought in dead”, denied a postmortem to determine cause of death! The circus in Zambia is frightening. Anyway, Levy had a heart attack while Sata’s HIV status triggered multiply organ failure.

  26. It’s Lungu’s government that must be investigated first. The ***** is overly dictatorial, his government more incompetent & prone to criminal behavior if the Kaiser Zulu and fire engine type, his party PF embroiled in an injurious civil war against Tongas – and the country confronting a far greater & frightful debt crisis!

  27. First investigate why CANCER DISEASES HOSPITAL has failed to employ a technician, foreigner or zambian, to be interpreting CT Scan readings. Cancer patients are taking ct scan cd to a Chinese technician for a report and he charges them. He is found at Harvest clinic along Alick Nkhata road after Kalingalinga clinic. Lusakatimes reporters can do investigative journalism on this.

  28. “Musiyaleni 4 maLozi” must also be investigated for “ubuloshi”, the man was clearly haunted by a ghost of someone who might have died at his behest! Buloi manig’i ona sinamalyanga sani lakacenu kipeto mane “buchreste” bwateni kimouyoshwela!

  29. But Chiluba died of an overdose of mtototo. He was saturated with the stuff waiting ready for Regina to come back from the CB so that he could enjoy himself over over, but alas she had a car break down! Mwamba came by and tried wonking him but he wouldn’t jerk off! In the end the Pygmy kicked the bucket and Mwamba bolted!

  30. 1. 3rd Hungriest nation!

    2. Foreigners digging your minerals in all the 10 corners of your country and you have nothing to show for!

    3. No toilet facilities in Kanyama=Cholera!

    4. Foreigners being given land like our dicks have stopped functioning!

    5. Foreigners are being given permits to sell Kadolis in our streets!

    6. Foreigners being given land like our dicks have stopped functioning!

    7. A Nation where you call your friends thieves after they ditch you from their gang!

    8. That aside, Fire Tender Lager!

    8. Ba Farmer atishani ka market?

    9. A Nation where 90, 000 trained Teachers are fighting for 2,000 available vacancies!

AND YOU WANT DO M’FITI NDANI? Guys, Chamba Mukazibemako mu June!

Failing to collect taxes from the Mines!
    Chingola Kitwe…

  31. Kavindele and other rich and pot-bellied men must think about the poor before they open their mouths. How many Commissions of Inquiry are we going to have: (1) Commission to investigate burning of markets; (2) Commission to investigate pre- election violence; (3) Commission to investigate Regional voting; (4) Commission to probe death of former presidents and many others and all these commissions need money to pay allowances for the pot-bellied commissioners and yet we are a nation still fighting poverty and starvation of our people in shanty compounds. What interest has Kavindele got in the death of Sata?

  32. This is the meaning of more money in the pocket when you are a cadre.Remember Kavindele has become one such.commissions will enrich cadres and no results will be made public. So why inquiries.?

  33. Chiluba and sata had AIDS. Mwanawasa had stroke. What else do you want to know. Unless you’re saying we shouldn’t die

  34. IN ZAMBIA, WHEN SOMEONE DIES IT IS ALWAYS BLAMED ON:

    A) NATURAL CAUSES
    B) WITCH CRAFT
    C) HH
Note: Only one option is required.
