Govt. warns erring contractors in Sikongo District

Government says it is saddened with works done by contractors it engaged to rehabilitate school infrastructure in Sikongo District in Western Province.

Sikongo District Commissioner Bright Tombi says it is saddening that most pupils in the area have continued learning from dilapidated structures despite government funding construction of better school infrastructure in the area.

He said this when he visited Lumbamba primary school of Sikongo district in western province where the contractor engaged to conduct a new classroom block has left  without completing the project.

Mr. Tombi has since vowed to have the contractor found and taken to task to account for what he termed as total selfishness and disregard for government property.

The contractor engaged about two years ago has only managed to build a one by two classroom block up to roof level.

This is despite having all the materials in place and a check by ZANIS found roofing iron sheets lying dormant at the site with 100 hundred pockets of cement that have since been damaged.

And some community members who opted to speak anonymously told ZANIS that the contractor disappeared from the site in March 2016 and efforts to contact him have not yield fruit as his phone is ever off.
