Luapula DPS calls on residents to embrace investors

Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Royd Chakaba has called on people in the area to embrace investors in the region.

Mr. Chakaba said there is need to embrace people wanting to invest in the province.

He stated that some companies have shown interest in investing in the province following the Luapula Expo and Investment Conference which was held last year.

Mr. Chakaba told ZANIS in an interview that companies such as Agro Pro Mansa will this year start investing in the area by putting up a cassava processing plant which will add value to cassava.

Mr. Chakaba added that the same company has plans of expanding the Mansa airport by extending the run-way and putting up other features which are currently not in place.

Mr. Chakaba said the province has already started seeing the fruits of last year’s Expo as more investors have started investing in the region.

He has also disclosed that JAD Africa will put up a bridge at Kashiba across the Luapula river which will connect Zambia to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr. Chakaba noted that the bridge will open many business opportunities in the province and that it will reduce the cost of doing business for traders.

He observed that the investments will surely boost economic activities in the province.

Mr. Chakaba said the next Luapula Investment and Tourism Expo can only take place after three years to enable the provincial administration monitor and evaluate how the first Expo performed in terms of attracting investors in the province.
