UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has warned President Edgar Lungu to desist from stealing public funds.
Commenting on sentiments by President Lungu that “ubomba mwibala alya mwibala”, Mr Hichilema said the remarks are a confirmation of Mr Lungu’s corruption and public theft.
Mr Hichilema said the UPND will stop President lungu from stealing anymore, soon.
“When a so called leader is corrupt, they do not care about the suffering masses, their preoccupation is to steal from government and steal more and more to enrich themselves,” Mr Hichilema said.
He added, “Clearly, watching and listening to the man, he literally says he will leave the government of Zambia bankrupt. Who says a thing like that”
Mr Hichilema stated that only a man who is preoccupation is self aggrandisement using public resources can utter such words.
He charged that public resources meant to alleviate poverty in Zambia are being diverted to individuals.
“Is this the kind of government our country needs to progress. We have always known that our country is in hands of corrupt individuals but what we didn’t fathom was the level of impunity with which corruption is being encouraged,” he said.
“In view of that and by virtue of this statement we wish to state that we shall take decisive actions to stop Mr. Lungu from further depleting our country’s resources. If it means writing to international institutions that are fighting corruption and plundering of public resources, we shall do so in order to protect our country’s properties from being individualised.”
He said, “Fellow citizens, time to unite and act is now, let’s save our country’s economy and democracy for our future generations. Mr Lungu and corrupt associates must know that “umulandu taubola.”

Making ECL and his partners in corruption account for their looted wealth should be the first task of whoever will be the new president in Zambia in 2021. How can the public believe that, yes, indeed the accused has committed an offence? It is better to report the matter to Zambia Police, ACC or any relevant security organs. As members of the public, it is possible to prevent stealing in broad day light. But when it comes to hidden acts of theft, including corruption it is the responsibility of the witnesses to report the matter to the police or to ACC.

the past 6 months have been a period of great introspection on my part. Someone please tell me if English is still Zambia’s official language. Policy statements from the head of the nation, as well as comments by what should effectively be an official opposition party leader, are liberally made in what has, for some unexplained reason, become the language to use if one wants to be heard. Why has the Zambian public accepted this without challenging its implication?
