Government’s announcement of the country-wide extension of the Fishing Ban has not been well received with the fishing community in Chienge District of Luapula Province.

The Fishermen for this reason staged a peaceful protest earlier today over the extension which has been necessitated by Cholera outbreaks in some parts of the Country.

Chienge District Administration which had a three hour meeting with representatives of the Fishers had a tough time to convince them that the move by Government is meant to save human lives.

Speaking to ZANIS in a walk-in interview, Chienge District Fishers Association appealed to Government to consider reviewing the announcement.

  1. Wow those are really advanced fishing machines for kapenta. We never saw such in our time. We only thought mosquito nets were the top equipment.

  2. Its for your own benefit you people…this what I talk about; these people see Lazy Lungu’s pot belly getting big yet he is telling to stop fishing!!

  3. The ban is because of government inefficiency to control cholera outbreaks by keeping cities and markets clean now they want the poor and those trying to earn an income to suffer because of their neglect ! Shameful!

  4. The extension on fish ban will just increase poverty among those whose main economic stay is fishing. Luapula and Western provinces where most fish come from haven’t recorded any cholera case. Why should govt apply blanket ban to affect even the innocent?
How do they expect households to take their children to schools?

  5. Encourage, support fish farming. There is no fish ban! But to change a Zambian’s mind is a mission impossible. Awe sure. Kaya!

    • Fish farming is also being stopped by this fishing ban!

No fish are allowed from Kariba, not even the fish from FARMS !!!
