The Ministry of Higher Education says it is confident that China Energy Engineering Group will complete the construction of the Fredrick Titus Chiluba (FTJ) University in Luapula within the contracted 24 months period.

Ministry Spokesperson Kawanda Chiselwa told ZANIS in Mansa yesterday that the Ministry is confident that the contractor will perform to government’s expectations and deliver the project on schedule.

Ms. Kawanda says the $132 Million FTJ University project which is expected to commence this year will be constructed in Mansa.

She notes that her Ministry is pleased that the project is finally taking off following its launch in 2013.

Ms. Kawanda explains that the delays in the implementation of the project have been due to a few logistical challenges which have since been sorted out.

She says the development plans and drawings for the project have since been made available.

Ms Kawanda says the project is expected to be re-launched by President Edgar Lungu on the dates to be confirmed.

She notes that the construction of the FTJ University in Luapula Province will offer school leavers quality education within their proximity.

Ms. Kawanda observes that fighting for limited places in the few public universities has most the times discouraged children who have performed well at grade 12.

    • I’m against them naming this institution after FTJ.

The man was an evil, evil, evil crook!

A hypocrite he was to declare Zambia a christian nation but was busy stealing not just the nation’s money but other people’s wives! He allowed Castro to go on a rampage! He was allegedly responsible or at least knew about the pending deaths of so many late politicians that crossed his path.

      No ways!!!!

If anything FTJ did nothing for the people of Luapula, nothing at all!

    • Be realistic! His government opened the doors to people becoming enterprising. The thief tag was a ploy to take away his achievements. This was a planned move by people who didn’t believe that they were out of government as they were used to wamuyaya theory. His predecessor acted in order to woo support as Zambians like blame games instead of improving situations!! VIVA FTJ project. It befits as he was a scholar himself.

    • Imwe baiche commenting above,,, your fathers didn’t tell that its not only wrong its also evil to talk ill about the departed,, it’s not the zambian culture to ill about the departed,, you Will have minyama in your lives,, leave FTJ alone, he is better than your lungu

  1. Let us call a spade,a spade and nothing else. He never built a college nor a university but was busy looting national resources. Are we honouring thieving? The late, MC Sata and the incumbent have something to show.

  2. Why build institutions that you will fail to run? Failing to run two highest institutions of learning but building some more? I hope it is not borrowed money.

    • Lungu is scared of Kalaba and Kambwili hence initiating fake projects to hoodwink luapula people. Ask abena Chinsali does Lungu think about that elephant university called Paul Mushindo? Ask him about Kapasa Makasa University. Go to Kabwe when he faked opening of textiles. That is how Lungu works he will cheat luapula people and they will be clapping for nothing thinking a university will be built. Yes it will be built up to window level but will never be completed and will never be opened. Do people in Luapula so dull to believe one of the many fake promises? I don’t think interlectuals like kanabesa bana Katende Walushiba Katele Kalumba can believe fake stories with many others who understand PF liers.

  3. President Chiluba’s name cannot be erased from annals of Zambia’s history. He together with brave men and women led this country into multiparty democracy when most Zambian were extremely fearful to stand up against KK. He may have made mistakes along the way as President and he didn’t claim to be infallible, but his name and legacy will not be obliterated from the scene.
Let the govt honour him by naming a university after him.

  4. This culture of naming every instititution after politicians must end. Worse, naming an educational institution after a person who destroyedthe fabric of our education system.

  5. We might just as well call it Mose Katumbi University after all he is also from Congo.

Too many universities in Northern, Muchinga and Luapula? Are they the only tax payers in Zambia?

  6. I’m all for the power of learning and in favour of education for the people, but if it was within my power I would build composting toilets for every village in Zambia, giving dignity to the people and providing a source of free fertilizer to help feed everyone. Unfortunately this is not seen as a prestige project by some who would rather play the big man and accept large quantities of money.

  7. FTJ made politics easy, it wasn’t easy to unseat KK and UNIP. Don’t argue you weren’t there, ask General Miyanda what a brutal regime UNIP was. I doubt whether a full fledged university can be founded within 2yrs, it’s just another department of CBU

    • Yes I was there in the UNIP era.
You can not compare UNIP to FTJs murderous regime. What happened to Paul Tembo,Ronald Penza,Richard Ngenda,Baldwin Nkumbula,Cuthbert Nguni and Wezi Kaunda

    • Ba Independent! If you were there in the UNIP error, do you mind explaining how: Nalumino Mundia, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Patu Simoko , Charles Lupiya Buster Mando, Gibson Chigaga, Zenia Njonvu and others died?

    • How many of the people you have mentioned were executed by a hail of bullets from hired assassins. I start my list:
      1.Paul Tembo
      2.Ronald Penza
      3.Richard Ngenda
      4.Wezi Kaunda
      5.Cuthbert Nguni

  8. You are wasting $132 Million on FTJ University project when you dont have money to maintain existing Universities like CBU and UNZA….NRDC had a farm in the outskirts of Lusaka but you sold the land, now you want to sell the land it is on and move them to Mumbwa Mumbwa…you could have easily built a Agriculture university with lab facilities there and had a farm in Chongwe. But we all know that PF cadres are grabbing land all over the place…people are not scared to leave the plots bare as they cadres can grab it without papers.

  9. THE PLANS OF THAT UNIVERSITY MUST BE FLOATED FOR COMPETITION. THE STRUCTURE SHOULDN’T BE LIKE THE CURRENT UNIVERSITIES THEY ARE BUILDING WHICH LOOK LIKE UMWAKULALE NKUMBA. I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT. HOWEVER, KUFWILE KWABA COMPETITION AND PEAKING THE BEST DESIGN. THE COMPETITION CAN EVEN BE INTERNATIONAL.

  10. FTJ Chilubas murderous regime.
    1.Paul Tembo
    2.Ronald Penza
    3.Richard Ngenda
    4.Baldwin Nkumbula
    5.Cuthbert Nguni
    6.Wezi Kaunda
    RIP fallen comrades

  11. @1.3 politics of the belly godfather. Kapasa Makasa is up and running. Check your facts. But nice try.
@ 6 Dr Chaos Theory. I wonder where you are going with that. By the way, there are 2 universities being built/upgraded in Chongwe alone. Kabwe also has 2. So no mate, they are not the only tax payers.
