Former Lusaka Deputy Mayor, Potipher Tembo has castigated Nkoloma ward one Councillor, Tasila Lungu and Lusaka Provincial Minister, Bowman Lusambo for directing the demolition exercise of the mosque’s frontage and part of its fence in Chawama’s Kuku compound.

In an interview with q-news Mr. Tembo says he has registered his displeasure with the manner the mosque was demolished on two different occasions because the move raises questions as to whether the country is tolerant to other religious groups.

He says if there was a problem in the manner the Muslims built the mosque ,Mr. Lusambo in his capacity as a provincial minister could have written to the Lusaka city council which is mandated to carry out demolition exercise of the structures when need be, as per procedure than him directing the exercise.

Mr. Tembo explains that he find the demolition of the mosque in kuku compound to be unfair to the Muslim’s community because the Zambian constitution is tolerant to other religious also.

He has indicated that people in Chawama’s kuku compound hold the Muslims in high esteem owing to their generosity in helping the widowed orphans and the underprivileged in general.

Meanwhile the former Lusaka deputy mayor has recalled that during the time he served as deputy mayor and subsequently mayor for the city he never witnessed a demolition exercise been done by a provincial minister or ward councilor because such an exercise done at the discretion of the engineering department at the council.

He has also called on Ms. Lungu and Mr. Lusambo to involve the Muslim community and other stakeholders next time before undertaking an exercise which is a preserve for the council.

  1. How come children like Tasila can make such decisions without being sensitive to religious issues? With Lusambo I am not suprised its the reason the president movef him to Lusaka purely to bring thugery behaviour which pleases president Lungu hence he cannot fire him because he is the number one qualified thug in PF.
Shame on the appoiting authority and its sad that a child like Tasila can engage in such without consulting. Maybe she had blessings from the father. Chimbwi ukulila ninshi pali uko ashintiltishe amatako Tasila achepa.

    • No wonder there is chaos in Lusaka. With Mayors like this guy at the helm, who would bother following THE BUILDING CODE to put up any building in the city. He wants the same corrupt City Council to police itself. If the engineering department at LCC is such an upstanding department, why do we have so many illegal structures in the City? People in Lusaka build with impunity and disregard for Laws yet the City Authority rarely does anything about it. And this Former Mayor wants to pretend things at LCC works. Who are you kidding?!

LCC is DEAD and CORRUPT to the core. If it wasn’t, we would see a City that looks like somebody is in charge. Even a village is run and organized better than Lusaka (the Capital City) is. So spare us the nonsense Former Mayor.

    • How many churches are there in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanstan etc? ZERO, NADDA, ZILCH.

Lets not give this evil religion a foothold.

Besides the noisy loud prayers on loudspeakers in the morning, lunch time & evening are so bloody irritating for entire neghborhoods.

    • Sending P.F cadres to demolish Lusaka is dangerous.
And that Religious Minister tolerated that of attacking non-christian groups/

    • @ maloza. The constitution of Zambia is different from the constitutions of the countries you are mentioning. Democracy comes with certain rules which you must adhere to if you have to be called a democrat. If you claim to allow freedom of association and assembly as a country, you should strive to keep it that way. It’s called democracy. If you want to be like Iran it means allowing the government to control what church you go to. For example the government can decide to ban all churches except Catholicism.

    • Let Potipher Tembo express his views without being demonised. Instead of you addressing the thug who ordered demolition, you insulting Potipher. Very useless

      If the Mosque was illegally…

    • Continue…

built, it deserves to be demolished and rebuild in accordance with the BUILDING CODE and within specifications. What the hell is wrong with that? Religious freedom does not give anyone or any religious grouping freedom to break the law. Minister Lusambo, please continue bringing some sanity to the capital city….we Berg you!

  2. This guy sounds like Muslims paid him a lot. That’s were the problem is council collects money for a wrong sale and when told to collect it you fail because you have already eaten cash.Bowman and tasila did well if it was a illegal building demolish more so that people learn

  3. If the mosque is an illegal building, it was very right to demolish it.There are laws in this country governing the erection of buildings anywhere. You don’t just build anyhow

  4. Useless news. The Muslim should have followed procedure before building their mosque. All citizens must follow procedures in construction. Potiphar must have been involved in the illegal allocation of land.

  5. They are building a place for Muslim prayers within the New terminal KKIA. People just don’t understand how Islam wants to dominate other religions. Why can’t other religions also build their own places of prayer in the airport. If they want to pray they can do that at the Mosque. Countries like US, UK, France, Germany etc now can’t control Muslim extremism because they once were too tolerant. People only understand when it’s too late

    • This is a practice worldwide…international airports including large shopping malls have a room for worship for Muslims. The reason is that Muslims have their periodic daily prayers. If they do not have a room designated for prayers but instead a mid-day stop what they are doing where-ever they may be and bow down towards Mecca you would be the same people freaking out…hence the private rooms designated for them to retreat as the need maybe be for them to bow towards Mecca.

  6. What’s wrong with you people? Lusambo never demolished any Muslim infrastructure on copperbelt so it means there’s something wrong with the demolished building.

  7. Bowman just arrived in town and he is already causing trouble, I don’t know why ECL is keeping this guy around for with all the issues the guy comes with. ECL loves the bad characters no wonder one urinated on him pretty soon more are going to embarrass him in front of he so called dictator friends.

  8. How come the owners of the demolished building haven’t complained. Tembo was mayor for the city and probably he could have authorized the structure and so he’s guilty of wrong allocation. Let’s not just criticize because it’s the PF government involved.

  9. It is precisely because of politics that we end up with illegal structures actually reaching completion and then being declared illegal after a dispensation has passed. We must remove politicians from civic affairs. In fact we should not be talking about INDIVIDUALS but about COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES where RESOLUTION was taken. Awe mwe!!!

  10. There is nothing so religious about demolishing an illegal structure. Those that have no idea of what they are talking about must just keep quiet. Zambia as a christian nation is very tolerant to other religions. It you want to know about the Muslim religion try and build a church in any of the muslim countries or better still try and find out how the arab christians suffer at the hands of their muslim arab brothers and sisters. Just take stoke of the events taking place around the world in general and in Muslim African countries in particular. it is sad. So Mr. Potipher Tembo, Just ask your muslim brothers to tone down and comeback to Zambia. We are very tolerant society unlike your religion. If you have no permission for your structure it will be demolished regardless of whether or not…

  11. … regardless of whether or not it is a mosque. There is nothing religious or political about this mosque.

  12. Isn’t this an issue of the water logged area? If so, the two are not wrong. They are working and must have engaged the church owners.

  13. Arabs sold us as slaves for hundreds of years, they still spit on us, give Zambian women to dogs, deal in drugs, bribe govt officials, jst like Indians, they have no regard for the black man, they dnt consider him human. An arab or indian wud neva tolerate you in their home countries let alone allow you to proper, own business, own property, capture the market of local buyers with simple foodstuffs, they wud rather kill you!

  14. This is what happens when Tasila Lungu makes fake LinkedIn profiles advertising fake degrees. Why did she remove clothing vendor among other things she had? She leaves the US to come to Zambia because her father is president and the whole of Zambia worships her. This is the problem with us Zambians and our name worshiping tendencies. The fact that someone has an accent we assume they are educated when in reality chikopo! There are many young women at university with more education and skills than Tasila yet we leave them out and give her that position. People need to learn International Management. In the end she will end up like Kambwili. Any property in her name on a councilors salary, should be questioned, where money came from. She is as useless as they come.
