The Church says it is unchristian for society to abandon and fail to look after orphans and vulnerable children in the country.

Vice President Inonge Wina’s Senior Private Secretary Sheila Siwela says there is need for Christians in the country to abide and follow the commandments and teachings of Christ of coming to the aid of orphans and the underprivileged.

ZANIS reports that Mrs. Siwela said there is more that needs to be done by Christians to uplift the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children in society.

Mrs Siwela said society needs to follow the teachings of the church in order for it to reach out to orphans and the disadvantaged in society.

Mrs Siwela said this when she led the women fellowship from the St Columbus Presbyterian Church in Lusaka to donate assorted items and an undisclosed amount of Electricity units to Chilenje Transit Home.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Chilenje Transit Home, Esther Zulu thanked the St Columbus Women fellowship for the gesture as it will help in meeting the daily needs of the children at the centre.

Meanwhile, Vice President of the women fellowship Mary Muchai urged society to pray for people looking after orphans and vulnerable children so that God could bless them to care for the children and raise them into God fearing and productive citizens.

Mrs Muchai said society needs to embrace a spirit of giving and helping in order for it to reach out to vulnerable and underprivileged people in society especially orphans and the poor in villages.
