Leader of the opposition UPP Savior Chishimba has charged that Zambia must urgently reform its university education and stop what he called witchcraft degree notion.
Writing after conducting a VIP study tour of Israel’s Ariel University which is known as the heartbeat of Israel, Dr Chishimba said the UPP shall place premium on transforming all universities into institutions that shall deliver applied research-oriented education.
He noted that Ariel University has 114 professors and 384 senior lecturers with another 1, 500 members of staff.
“Workers include Arab Muslims, Druzes, Christians, Jews and other minorities. The same is true for students. The university, with a student population of 15, 000, has 41 research laboratories. 13 more labs are under construction. Added to this, are 15 applied research centres. Interestingly, the university has a robust research and development functional unit,” he noted.
He said the evidence of applicative education is in the 25 new patent applications that the university makes every year from its new inventions.
“So far 36 patents have been granted with 76 active projects underway and another 80 active patent families. R & D has flourished because of the strong laws on intellectual property rights,” he said.
Dr Chishimba said there are many graduates today in Zambia who cannot even compete with a first year student at Israeli universities.
He charged that the country’s education must be aligned to national priorities.
“University education is not college education. Our universities must be renowned for new inventions. It’s shocking that at the time that Israel has produced graduates like the one who invented waze (the driving GPS App), which Google has bought for US$10 billion, our Ministry of Higher Education is talking about introducing a degree in witchcraft! Jokers!”
“Noteworthy, another Jew invented WhatsApp which has been sold to Facebook at US$18 billion. This amount is the GDP of Zambia. Jews invest heavily in education and that’s why there is no nation that can beat Israel when it comes to originality in inventions.”
He added, “I was later taken to the cyber centre where practical education and ongoing research is done to ensure that hacking of systems is prevented. It is impossible to hack into Israel’s ICT systems. It’s laughable that our Ministry of Finance had the entire system crash, probably as an organised crime by the corrupt elements in government. My jaw dropped when I was given rare access to the simulation centre! High-tech applications for real simulations about every aspect of life are such as I have never ever seen in my life, not even what I saw in Georgia, USA.”
Dr Chishimba said, “UPP is continuing to get ready for government on day one when we shall win the next elections. All recycled “politicians” who have transformed politics into a get rich quickly enterprise shall not be recycled. We continue to invite young Zambians, women and professionals at home and in the diaspora to join UPP and intensify efforts to organise for real change in 2021.”

I’ve a lot friends who studied in Europe and at some of the most prestigious Universities in USA. What he’s saying is total rubbish. R and D is expensive. There’s nothing Zambian students can fail to do if the funds for R and D are made available. I did not go outside Zambia for my post graduate studies but most of my friends who went to study in Europe and USA graduated top of their classes. Zambian education especially at university level is very tough. Those who’ve experienced it and gone overseas will tell you. I may agree with him on government priorities but I disagree with him that a Zambian graduate cannot compete with a first year Israeli student.

All you should do is note or lobby government to introduce those systems you so in lsrael, otherwise the failure of Zambia’s education system falls squarely on you and all Zambian graduates who have done nothing. Zambia has graduates who are good at nothing, they can’t even make toothpicks but import them from China. It is easier said than done.

I doubt this was a “VIP study tour”. To begin with, Saviour Chishimba is not a VIP. Even those in the picture with him know he is no VIP. How else do you explain the hugging couple in the background in the first picture? They seem to be having fun while this clown strokes his ego.
This guy reminds me of another economic lecture Habazooka at UNZA who is full of book economics, dangling economic jargon and theories of the 1940s here and there, yet he himself still relies on government for his pay check. Education is meant to open one’s mind to a new level of thinking not necessarily getting a good job and start hallucinating about one’s education credentials. Education must be applied to real life situations to find solutions to our most immediate challenges. To have a leader who shames the very university education that made him a doctor is not only gross irresponsibility but lack of foresight and servitude. And you want to become a leader like that, shame,?

Everybody else is at fault but not you and you can only bring change to the country using Government money. You don’t have to be in Government to bring change in some area of human endeavor. Saviour Chishimba has no PhD; he has a fake doctorate. Here is information I obtained from one of his friends and former classmate.’s background.
‘Dr’Saviour Chishimba purports that he has a doctorate philosophy in Public health and he also claims to be a HIV/AIDS/TB consultant. As far as we are concerned ‘Dr’Saviour Chishimba does not possess the PHD he claims to have. We stand on the strong ground to challenge the credibility of his academic papers. We know him from college and he is thus our personal friend. However, the persistent position he has taken to be in confrontation with his leader Mr. Michael Sata compels us to expose him to the party and the nation.
As some people rightly put it ‘unprecedented behaviour requires unprecedented solution’. We therefore ask you sir not only to investigate the validity of his academic papers but also to expose him and put him on the political defence.We knew Chishimba in 1998 at Chainama College when he enrolled as a Clinical Officer General student and he was behind us by a year. In the same year whilst at college he joined an NGO called Bwafwano that was dealing in TB and was given a motorbike to help organise the community. In 1999 he started missing classes and later towards the end of the year he stopped school because he could not cope with pressure that came with assignments and tests.
Between 2000 and 2003 he did a number of short courses such as certificate in reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, certificate in business administration and certificate in transformational leadership. Many of these courses he did them at extention studies of University of Zambia based at Ridgeway campus. As far as we can trace his academic records, he does not have a first degree and the second degree (master’s degree) worse more a doctorate philosophy (PHD). In 2004 he started a distance programme at the University of Zambia and after two years, he converted to evening law. He did law programme up to the middle 2007 when stopped.
We didn’t know him as a ‘Dr’ until in 2006 when he stood as a member of parliament for Kasama central and won the elections. We were in fact shocked to learn that he was a doctor when those of us who started the degree programme before him have not even finished our master’s programme at University of Zambia. Now as many of our former course mates, college mates and friends can attest to this statement, we did not know Saviour Chishimba at any time doing any doctorate programme anywhere.
Just why has it become an issue in our country for people to prefer to be addressed as doctor so or so when they have never laboured to underrake any studies that would warrant them to earn the title they are craving for?

We must be truthful and honest with ourselves to progress. Have you seen the poor engineering works we have in this nation from private Zambian contractors? What tech industry has school of engineering produced? I blame the academics not the Zambian graduates because even those who have not been to “the school of engineering” are performing better in the field.
I’m proud to say I have a son who is Medical Doctor trained and practising in Europe. Another son who is a diploma graduate in automotive serving in Zambia Army. As for myself I’ve…
Ctn…I’ve been to too many officer training schools where we cover subjects ranging from military strategy, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, medical science, history, economics, law, ethics, philosophy, and political science, etc etc etc
