The Zambia Airports Corporation has refuted reports that there was a plane crash at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka leading to the runaway getting closed.

The Corporation said in a short statement that contrary to reports, there has been no plane accident at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

“A small plane had a technical difficulty due to a broken undercarriage which led to the runway being blocked for a short period of time. During this time, one commercial flight was diverted,” it said.

The Corporation said the plane has since been towed and flights are landing as normal.

Reports emerged earlier on Sunday that the KKIA runway was closed after an incident involving a plane.

Emirates and Ethiopian airlines that were due to land were said to have been diveted to Harare International Airport in Zimbabwe.

  1. As you approach KKIA, there’s a river to North-east. I always wonder which river it is because the Luangwa is further away. Is it Mulungushi? As for the reported crash, it seems Zambians are now fond of alarmist news and statements

    • Zambians have become alarmists…almost everybody is a liar in Zambia…no one tells the truth…no clue in anything….what a country…and the Chinese have seen how dull Zambians are…Zambians are die hard soccer fans and alcoholics

    • Even a stranger in Electoral Commission of Zambia servers during tallying of 2016 election results was treated lightly. There were many witnesses who saw him and pictures were taken. The official position is that there was no stranger in ECZ server rooms. That is why to be Christian and corrupt raises no eyebrows in Zambia anymore.

    • How did the under-carriage get damaged then? It’s not a matter of state secret for a plane to crash because planes crash now and then.

  2. Sematics aside. There was a plane that crashed that is how come the runway was closed. lets stop sugar coating issues. A mere under carriage problem cannot lead to diversion of aircrafts. Pathetically to understand is why KKIA only has one landing runway. secondly why divert planes to harare when livingstone is nearer

    • Some planes are too big for Livingstone Airport kikikiki. Also aircraft damages and problems are all treated as major, no matter how small it is protocol world wide.

    • They can not lie about such issues (this not PF govt of thieves) there are codes of practice …and Ethiopian Airlines and Emirates craft can not land in those airports they cant accommodate them and the passengers plus fuel is too expensive in Zambia.

  3. Zambians tend to exaggerate things as if they long for a major tragedy. They even exaggerate the size of the items downstairs. Lol.

  4. Stop commenting on issues that you have no good understanding of otherwise you are all exposing your ignorance big time.

You don’t even understand what constitutes an emergency landing.. For more information kindly visit the airport and learn more don’t drink beer muvimbotela umu.

    • If they do not know about aviation “incidents” issues, please be kind and offer expert advice.
      1. “Collapsing” of undercarriage is treated as “incident” or “accident”?
      2. Is the undercarriage subject to mandatory inspection by the authority?
      3. Has the Authority communicated this “emergency landing” which resulted in “collapsing” undercarriage to the manufacturer?
      5. What constitute “emergency landing”?

  5. I dont see much different in size of harry mwanga nkumbula and kkia. Surely the BA and SAA which fly frm Jburg are just as big as emirates. Planes should hav been diverted to livingstone unless otherwise

  6. A small plane had a technical difficulty … During this time, one commercial flight was diverted,” it said…..

So one of them was not commercial .,….which Ethiopian or Emirates ? lol Maths wise..thats two planes…one was cargo ? Treat this seriously…….these are aircraft…

  7. Real international airports have two runways but what we have in Zambia are more like regional aerodromes.

  8. Sow bad seeds today hoping to gain political mileage, reap the rotten effects at some time in future.

  9. Ok did it it happen? What was the safety and remedial action? Anything afterward is very nonsensical.
