President Edgar Lungu has disclosed that Acting Auditor General, Mr Ron Mwambwa had disclosed to him that he would be resigning to pursue his career interests in the Republic of Liberia.

President Lungu said that he couldn’t resist the resignation as Mr. Mwambwa would be Zambia’s flag bearer in that country.

In a statement issued by Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda, President Lungu bemoaned the growing culture by some sections of Zambians who have resorted to politicizing everything.

“I had a meeting with the Auditor General prior to his resignation. He told me he was going to Liberia where he would set up an Auditing system.for that country. I thought that was good for him to go to Liberia because he would be a flag bearer for Zambia. It is really sad and unfortunate that there is a growing culture among Zambians, some Zambians to politicise everything on baseless grounds to gain political mileage. Where are We going as a country with this culture?” the President said.

    • Why is the President revealing all this to the public?

I would have thought this was a private conversation, the president would have done well to keep between the two of them

    • This is where we go wrong as a country .
The idea of not appreciating professionals
But are honoured in other countries.
What a load of rubbish leaders

    • @ Mushota and Carlos, true Zambian professionals are without honor of recognition in their own homeland period! The president in trying to justify inefficiency or tribal purge accusations advanced by the public, is pivoting to save himself for lack of good reason as to why the man would be in an acting capacity for 2 years whether it be for administrative convenience or pending promotion that for this long neither a replacement appointment nor confirmation was forthcoming! Obviously any right thinking person would not remain dormant for the unknown thus Mr Mwambwa seized the opportunity of information flows availed through “acting office” to search for obtaining vacancies be it local or outside Zambian borders! Who wouldn’t? I am sure even remuneration will be one befitting a…

    • contd….. professional! For 2 years!!!! Now to say Zambian flag bearer in Liberia! Kwisa mwebantu? This is a personal and private engagement. Good luck!

    • For once. Mushota you have used a brain is make a meaningful contribution from the inception of LT
      Tahnks or Thankis mubemba

    • Mushota: Nice to know you can be serious. In his statement, Ron Mwambwa only said he was leaving to pursue private interests. He did not even say he met ECL. More likely Mwambwa was head-hunted because no one regularly thinks of Liberia as the place to look for a job. ECL did not fail to fill this position; he refused to fill the position.

    • Why should Lungu(President) personally explain why the Auditor General resigned! Why didn’t Mwambwa personally explain the reason for his resignation and it had to take the entire president to start explaining on behalf of a civil servant! There are deep rooted reasons that have made this man to resign only known to himself and the PF government not the rubbish Lungu is feeding us.

    • But why Lungu has to reveal this? Did the AG agree to this public notification? One would think the AG himself should have let the nation know why he was resigning, and not Lungu doing it on his behalf. Something is wrong with this picture.

  1. Bur Mr President has not explained why Mwambwa should have been acting for that long two or twenty four months without confirmation. Me I am not politicising, was he incompetent? Because confirmation should be done within six months or a little more.

    • upnd cadre: ECL does not have to explain because what he is running is not a democracy but an oligarchy. He is answerable only to the PF.

  2. Smart farmers will not loan out a bull with best sperm to a rival farmer. They will gladly give away bulls will a weak sperm.

  3. Get miss Kafungula to act for six months until she advises for the best person. He seems to have been not trust worthy. Moving on.

  4. Your Excellence no need to explain and no need to worry about politicization of the issue because we’re all aware of the malicious campaign going on. A man is free to move on especially for better opportunities.

    • He is explaining to the people who pay his bills, it’s not a family affair. It’s about governance. Transparency and good governance for that matter.

  5. Don’t make political mileage out of this. Fact is it is not normal to act for a period exceeding six months. What is wrong with us? Let’s do one thing right for once in our fcuking lives!

  6. All the best Mr. Auditor General! Infestors had gone away because HH news was not worthwhile to comment on because he is UNELECTABLE. They wanted some other news where they will be insolent to the president or to the government to carry out their evil agenda. So they will appear Hagain here!

  7. There is a question not being answered here. How was a constitutional office left without a substantive holder for three years? Joyce Nonde has been prattling on about the need to observe labour laws since her trade union days. But here is government itself, the underwriter of all laws leading the way in disregarding them. No doubt this is massive development by the PF. Chishimba Kambwili has since learned a good politica lesson to some extent. But he is yet to learn that extremism is no good thing in life.

  8. Asking questions is not politicking iwe ka Mutawale! You should be ashamed that you kept someone in acting position for three years! As a lawyer you claim to be you should know better! But we know why you are happy to accept this resignation! You want to appoint a stooge who will effectively sweep your corruption under your dirty carpet! Shame on you! Posterity will judge you harshly as the person who managed to kill the One Zambia One Nation spirit while pretending to promote it! What wrong did other tribes commit for you to purge them from public office? Even the devil can do better than what the PF of Chagwa is doing!

  9. That’s like going from a posh Lusaka residence to go live in Misisi. Liberia is 170yr old badly failed state with per capita GDP of only $475 and always at risk of civil war.

    • Why do Europeans leave their “posh ” countries to come to untamed Africa? It’s not the surroundings that matter it’s what you will get out of those surroundings that is important. Expatriates are ready to bribe our governments just to be allowed in Africa. Mr Mwambwa has seen a big picture in Liberia which you can’t see yourself. Afterall the guy got tired of h@having to As to his title for too long.

  10. But then why not relieving him earlier than reviewing when he has resigned to embarrass u, but kwana ububuteko kuwayawayafwe shuwa. Yu are just covering the shame Mr President sir.

  11. There is more to the resignation than is being said. Maybe the gentleman resigned on moral grounds or was being victimized

  12. It is a position that is demanding and crucial for a normal country – but in Zambia, one that is held in disdain by the thieving regimes. All the efforts, work, reports and revelations of financial atrocity come to nothing. All the diversions and blatant theft and misappropriation of funds from deserving services, go unpunished.

Systems and processes have been made into appendages of the whims and caprices of the ruling misfits.

  13. He has gone to where he is appreciated …surely which professional ( apart from educated fools/bootlickers) would want to work under an utterly daft lazy stupid incompetent man like Edgar.

  14. He has gone to where he is appreciated …surely which professional ( apart from educated foools/bootlickers) would want to work under an utterly daft lazy stuupid incompetent man like Edgar.

  15. Mushota
You are right but you see issues of confidentiality are only practiced in the western world but Africa is the continent we have created full of gossip and corruption. As you correctly put it Mushota it is disappointing to note that state house is the first to breach confidentiality simply to prove the point.
Sadly, Amos Chanda issues such statements after taking 17 dry bottles of strong spirits no discernment at all.Let the Acting Auditor General go he might have failed to work on too many cover ups from the corrupt PF. Tuka Kampyongo, ka Amos Chanda and other thieves have not been touched for mispapporiation and stealimg of government funds.

  16. …….. GET RID OF HIM BEFORE HE TELLS EVERYONE OF MASS CORRUPTION IN THE PF — WHY WOULD ECL SAY “…SOME ZAMBIANS POLITICISE EVERYTHING……….” ?? BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE TRUTH AND HE KNOWS THAT THE AG IS NOT RESIGNING SIMPLY BECAUSE HE IS GOING TO LIBERIA BUT BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIME TO ASK OUR LIBERIAN BROTHERS IF THEY KNOW OF THIS STORY !

  17. First. The Acting Auditor General, Mr Ron Mwambwa, knows best why he’s resigning, not President Lungu. So let the acting auditor general tell.

Second. The Liberian public is yet to know the earlier and present relationships and transactions, if any, between President Weah and Mwambwa.

Is it that the audit reports by the Auditor Generalof Liberia are damaging to the Weah government and officials? Is the reason to replace AG’s office?

Third. Liberia has an office of Auditor General, and from public records and news, it is performing relatively well. But the apparently, perpetually corrupt, obstructionist government and President Weah are the problem by failing, time after time, to prosecute timely criminal suspects discovered by the audits and investigations.

    Fourth: What…

  18. cont’d

Fourth: What President, government, or country of self-respect, pride, and participating, responsible, and civic-minded intelligentsia would allow a foreigner, except in a brief, consultative role, to replace and “set up”, even run its auditing system?

How is this Pro-Poor government, if the Mwambwa rumor is true, different from past black on black apartheid, Indigenous fearing, under-the-table bribes devouring governments of Liberia, the same that allowed the Indians and Lebanese and Syrians to seize, own, and run the Liberian economy, then and now?

Everything–person, place, thing, idea or action–that appears good or plausible, is NOT always good or plausible. Peal away the veils to discover the what, when, where, and why.

It is a civic duty and right. It is…
