PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is expected in Turkey to attend the inauguration ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan scheduled for Monday, July 9, 2018 in the capital, Ankara.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Malanji said President Lungu is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony at invitation of his Turkish counterpart.

Mr Malanji, who was flanked by Zambia’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Turkey, Mr Joseph Chilengi, said Mr Lungu is among five African Heads of State and other world leaders invited to attend President Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony.

The minister was speaking in Ankara yesterday shortly after a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu ahead of President Lungu’s expected visit to Turkey.

Mr Malanji said President Lungu’s visit to Turkey is of paramount importance to Zambia as it will strengthen relations and trade between the two countries.

He also said part from attending the inauguration ceremony, President Lungu is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with President Erdogan to discuss issues of mutual interest between Zambia and Turkey.

The minister also said he and Mr Cavusoglu discussed the signing of a number of pending co-operation agreements between Zambia and Turkey.

“You know with the policies that we have put in place, it is only prudent that we are aggressive to make sure that national development blueprints like the Seventh National Development Plan(7NDP) can be brought to precision,” Mr Malanji said.

President Erdogan won the June 24, 2018 snap Presidential and parliamentary elections with a 52.6 percent first round majority vote to become Turkey’s first executive President under the new constitution.

Under the new executive presidential system, Turkey will have 16 ministries while the Prime Minister’s office will be abolished.

    • Scary fornication. Even us commenting on this is RISKY.
      Turkey is Islamic country.
      Zambia a Christian nation.
Who is more powerful to listen to the other?

    • Here we go again! In the past, Vasco Da Lungu used to attend only African presidential inaugurations, weddings, funerals etc.
Now he has branched off to attend Asian functions. Next will be South America & Europe.

When I tell you this lazy-bum is NOT presidential material, you call me names.

    • What we have is a ceremonial Head of State ..who is happy to enjoys the pecks of the job but never ever the responsibility!!

    • Zambia is desperate, oh it’s the Zambian Govt that’s desperate. They’re now very friendly with a HINDEN DICTATORS.

    • Zambia is desperate, oh it’s the Zambian Govt that’s desperate. They’re now very friendly with a HINDEN DICTATORS.

  1. TURKISH ECONOMY IS LIMPING AND DEPENDS ON CHINESE LOANS , WHAT CAN WE GAIN FROM THEM THEN? SEND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS HARRY KALABA , VERY PRECISE BOY

  2. Misplaced, gauche , tacky messy, chaotic or missed call..Was that the reason we were hearing some bogus Turkish investment to start in Zambia? Was that the reason the first lady graced the Turkish national day? Probably ECL wants to go and taste the Turkey Bird after Trump pardoned the Turkeys at White House during thanks giving. By the way Dalitso the musician has wa Kalukuluku at his farm even at Farm House along Great North Road after 10 miles where you can taste them but you want to fly all the way to Turkey to taste the Turkey! This is like coping Marshal Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga who who chart Boeing 777 just to have a hair cut in USA.

  3. Really laughable…of what importance is this nonsense…this Lazy Lungu lack priorities he didn’t attend the corruption summit but he is going for this pointless inauguration ceremony of this dictator

    • Lazy bum insolent tribalist hooligan and bully son of a polygamist father and online leader of the tribal wing of the tribal grouping Ha-it Hagain.

    • These are really lost years inauguration ceremony of the Turkish dictator of all the things. Why didn’t he attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting?

  4. ECL loves dicators and autocrats hence his dalliance with Erdogan ,Museveni & Mugabe plus he’s always attending inaugurations of suspect electoral outcomes.

  5. AI already digested most of the world’s newspapers today.

Sometimes I think our leaders our not interested in developing today Zambian generation into the world generation in thinking and telling the way it is, but the generation that admire what they wear, the cars they drive the power they have and the rooms that they meet in.

    This article is disturbing.

    • To add insult to injury ..he will want to be escorted to KKIA with the while govt like he is a king…to him because he was sweeping last week he has done his part; that the caliber of leaders will have today!!

  6. Absolutely no need for this visit. Not convincing of the need at all. ECL talked of austerity not long ago and ‘banned unnecessary travel’. Is an inauguration priority? Bilateral talks (probably a long shot at trying to legitimize this latest expedition) with a country like Turkey, whose own population has no confidence in what is going on, can be completed at the diplomatic official level.

In the last few weeks ECL has hardly been at his desk. Touring internally, going to Kenya on a ‘private visit’ etc. How about sitting down and answering some questions about where Zambia is, is going and what exactly is going on over the mines, land issues, employment, education, health insurance etc.?

    • Harold Muna
He actually is hardly in the office. Even when he is in Zambia he prefers travelling for things that his ministers can attend. And he wants to continue in 2021 when he is hardly in the office.

  7. The guy could not attend African Union meeting of Heads of States and sent old lady Inonge, but Turkey meaningless gathering he is going. Strange guy this presido!!

    • He also missed the Japan-Africa TICAD meeting in Nairobi but he went to inauguration of new Angolan president.

  8. Sad Zambian opinion makers! No analytical skills and rather engage in township tarvern solace!! Turkey is on the move and if we have any dreams of advancing economically, we need to embrace them.

  9. @Duda ..So the President should visit every country perceived to be ‘on the move’? What kind of argument is that? Besides, it is questionable whether Turkey is on the move. Zambia claims to be on the move, if you ask the PF. I haven’t seen a mad rush of heads of state coming over. Besides, this is also about unnecessary travel and austerity. Zambia also needs to redefine it’s foreign policy, if it has one – it’s ideological premise and how and why it aligns with certain States and characters. At the moment it all seems to be based on opportunism, political prostitution and appetite for personal rewarding travel.

  10. @ Mbomba Mwibala …. exactly. If all those local officials ‘commissioned’ all those internal things ECL finds an excuse to travel for, a lot of resources would be saved. Meanwhile he would be at his desk ‘planning’ the way forward over bigger matters.
