FAZ files petition over Burundi madalas

Share

FAZ have officially written a petition to CAF over the alleged eligibility of some members of the Burundi U20 side in the just-concluded 2019 U20 AFCON qualifiers.

Burundi dashed outgoing champions Zambia’s hopes of defending the U20 AFCON title on Sunday after a 3-0 home win at Ngozi on July 22.

That result saw Burundi to overturn a 1-0 away loss on July 14 in Lusaka to qualify to the Niger finals 3-1 on aggregate.

But allegations has swirled over the eligibity of the Burundi team who stormed through the qualifiers with just one loss from six matches that included two away wins against Ethiopia and Sudan in the first and second rounds respectively.

“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has formerly written to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the Burundi Football Federations decision to use overage players in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Burundi and Zambia played on 22nd July 2018 in Ngozi, Burundi,” FAZ spokesperson Desmond Katongo said.

“FAZ has asked CAF to thoroughly investigate the background of the Burundi players.”

  1. complaining after playing. If we won would we have complained? We just have no strategy. No wonder we have never been to the world cup. We are not going to Qatar either. Cry the beloved country. I wish I was not Zambian. For players that pray so much in the field I wonder which God we serve. You telling me that if God joined us in the field Burundi would beat us? let’s say God is like a ref we need different thinking.

  2. Crying over spilt milk.Mri checks should have been carried out before the game to ascertain the players correct ages and the match commissioner should have been informed.

  3. It is not a petition. It is just an appeal. A petition is one signed by many affected people, appealing to authority in respect of a particular cause. In this case its only FAZ who are appealing
