Sven Vandenbroeck collected his first win in charge of Chipolopolo on Tuesday after a 1-0 friendly win away against Gabon in Libreville.

The result marked a good start for the Belgian and is unbeaten from two games in charge of Chipolopolo just four days after an unconvincing 1-1 draw against Namibia in a 2019 AFCON Group K qualifier in Windhoek.

Striker Justin Shonga was again Chipolopolo’s hero when he struck in the 16th minute and could have added a brace but saw his 40th minute goal ruled-out for offside .

It was Shonga’s second goal in as many games following his stoppage time equalizer on September 8 against Namibia.

Meanwhile, Vandenbroeck’s next match will be on October 10 when Chipolopolo hosts Guinea Bissau on match-day-three of the 2019 AFCON Group K qualifiers at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka in a 17h00 kickoff before travelling to Bissau three days later for the final leg.

ZAMBIA STARTING XI: Nsabata, Sichone, Chungu, Shamujompa, L.Banda, Salulani, C.Chama, Mwepu, Lubambo, Shonga, Musakanya

    • This is what I was telling people on a certain football forum, but they think that their opinions are more superior to mine, I wonder why. They imagine themselves to be better soccer analysts than others. This is a new coach, and so far so good. We should all encourage him to even perform better in the next matches. Thumbs up to him and the boys.

  1. From My Analysis, if you look at the way the team tried to play against Uganda, you could see how the coach is trying to play football unfortunately the finishing in front of goal cost us yet again. he is still a new coach and his learning about the players, his game emphasized midfield control and quality in passing the ball with fast transitions between midfield and attack. it is easy to see mwepu fits perfectly for that creative role in supplying killer passes to our strikers. We could have one of the best Zambia teams ever if this coach can implement his style fully. His a good coach.

    • To me he seems to be good but its too early to really make a good assessment of his ability.
But one thing is clear, he has brought competition in the team. He does not base his selection on past glory but rather on current form.

  3. Just first game, the coach was already being judged harshly, he has not even known who is who among his players. Ndimwe vibanthu vabwanji kansi

  4. I think he should leave the likes of Kalaba period. They guys are past their sell by dates. I’m not saying they are that bad but if we hold on to them we hold on to the past where failure resides.

  5. We tried under the circumstances. Zambia lacks quality players like most West African countries. Need to develop new talent if we are to hope for better things in future.

  6. Don’t ever think you have arrived in Cameroon just because you have beaten Gabon, in a friendly. Having watched Guinea Bissau play away with Mozambique, they are not a walk-over. Are they not the ones who eliminated Zambia from (was it Africa Cup) qualifier two years ago?

    • M.Mwanza, have you arrived in your life or you still struggling. Leave the coach alone it’s only two games he has had . He far better than your negative thinking in you.

  7. But truth be told what is it that you want from the coach.when he wins a game it’s a friendly game, when he draws ,he is not good enough. Come on Zambians leave the coach alone if you you can’t support him just walk away. So negative like you got a choice.

  8. This game also mattered, especially that it was on a FIFA calendar. what more do you people need? If we had lost you are the same foo1s would have condemned the coach. Sven, from me well done! It gives us points when it come to counting points by fifa!!!!!

  9. Just imagine!!!!.

Zambians!!!!!! Terrible people….I have never seen negative people like these Zambians. They always think in reverse.

    Fyonse kutalika.

Leave the coach alone…you can’t even coach a division 9 team in the remotest village but you want to critic a new coach who is still finding his foot. You will die complaining.

  10. Can Faz put all logistics in order for the return match in GB. we don’t need a repeat of the Sudan fiasco where the team arrived barely 24 hours before the match. leaving the same day on 10/10/2018 after the match is ideal for the National team so that we won’t have an excuse of late arrivals and start blame game.

    GO Zambia GO!

  11. Well done boys i believe and know that the coach is slowly finding his foot let us give him a big chance to develop the team stop being so negative about your own the good thing is that the next game will be played in Lusaka at heroes stadium you will see sparks guys let us wait and see go Zambia Go thumbs up Patrick Phiri Lusaka

  12. It will be good to succeed in football once again. Our team may play poorly every now and then while the new Coach is still trying to assess the waters and same time learning to understand his charges or charges at his disposal. I believe both Coach and players need sometime together to get to cohesive levels of play. Go Chipolopolo, Go!! Go Zambia, Go!! God bless every Zambian and our great Nation!!

  13. Zambians pali bola ni number wanu. Real issues that pertain to the welfare of the nation (#43 for 43) no gutts. Continue worshipping foreigners and bola will shall see where your great grand children will end up.

  14. Please Mr Sven Shonga should partner with Daka 9,10 not Kalaba, we continue struggling intems scoring, I don’t hate Kalaba but his performance is not good as at now even at the club level he don’t play 90minutes why? is not doing well. we want to start winning with more goals so the coach should not depend in one striker. Two the coach should give this young man Fashion at least two or three years is still young in mind he can’t compete at senior level, the coach should give chance to people who know that their good performance is the pride of the nation.
