Beston Chambeshi says it is time for Nkana to make a mark in continental football.

The record 12-time champions have been surpassed on the continental front by six-time champions Zesco United who have now made four group stage appearances in both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup since they were promoted in 2004.

Nkana have only made one appearance, in the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup, in what was also their debut qualification to the league stage of current format of both continental competitions.

The 1999 African runners-up are currently second on the FAZ Super Division table with three games to go and on the cusp of qualifying to the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League should they finish in the top two alongside leaders Zesco.

Nkana have 69 points, eight behind Zesco and one ahead of Green Eagles and Green Buffaloes who are tied on 68 points.

“Nkana has always been championship material so it is not a fluke we are where we are right now,” Chambeshi said.

“We need to play continental football so that we expose the players and we also want the technical staff to face other challenges.”

Nkana can consolidate their quest this Wednesday when they host third placed Eagles at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

  1. Good performance can be attributed to individual skill and brilliance at Nkana. There is sufficient depth in player selection at Nkana. Chambeshi is tactless.

  2. Comment: Chambeshi work on your team’s technical aspect. There are players that will not perform wonders in your team and need to be replaced, they lack ambition. Players like Sate sate,Walter Binene,Festus Mbewe, etc will never progress. Look for players who are trainable and that are ambitious to bring honor to Nkana like the U20 team u coached.
