Government says it will this month embark on consultative meetings on the amendment of the public order act.

Minister of Justice Given Lubinda says his ministry will this month start holding consultative meetings on the amendment of the public order act, in all the ten provinces of Zambia.

Mr. Lubinda said the main objective of the Provincial Consultative meetings is to sensitize stakeholders on the current provisions of the public order act, as well as get submissions from the members of the public.

He said this in Parliament today when he delivered a Ministerial statement with regards to the amendment of the Public order Act.

“Officers from my Ministry will in the 3rd week of October start Provincial consultations in all the 10 Provinces on the Public Order Act. We expect a lot of Stakeholders to make contributions and make submissions such as Law Association of Zambia, Human Rights Commission, Parliament and the Police among others,” he emphasized.

Mr. Lubinda explained that recommendations from the people and stakeholder meetings will see drafting of the public order Act Amendment, and later take it to Parliament for enactment.

He further stressed that government remains resolute to following the Patriotic Front Manifesto Chapter 22 that talks about the amendment of the Public Order Act.
