A second year University of Zambia student Everlyn Chongo who sustained multiple injuries after jumping from the second floor of her hostel has been evacuated to South Africa.
Ms. Chongo jumped from her hostel following a riot at UNZA on Thursday night injuring her limbs and spine.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya confirmed the evacuation of Ms. Chongo to ZNBC news in Lusaka last night.
Dr. Chilufya who was on hand to see off the UNZA student at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka told ZNBC news that her condition is stable.
He said with appropriate therapy, Ms. Chongo will fully recover.

@mwansambula you must understand that UNZA isn’t just a learning institution or a learning campus but is the moral campus of this nation. Unza students marched against KK’s support of Savimbi in the late 70s, they marched against white rule in Rhodesia and South Africa. They stood up to rise against KK again in the early 90s. They stood up against Chiluba and were the only collective group that stood in support of Kaunda during those dark days of Kafupi, they stood up against the third term, they supported the late Great AKM, they supported the Late Great MCS. Today the UNZA student movement might be a shadow of itself but cometh the hour cometh the man. The spirit of objective criticism and protest lives on at UNZA let’s not demonise the students.
