Kitwe derby headlines 2018 Barclays Cup semfinals

Share

The Kitwe derby involving Nkana and Power Dynamos will headline Saturday’s 2018 Barclays Cup semifinal double-header set for Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Nkana and Power will clash in the 15h15 kick off second semifinal after Green Buffaloes faces Young Buffaloes earlier at 13h00.

Power are in the semifinals after eliminating Mufulira Wanderers while Nkana saw off former champions Zesco United at the quarterfinal stage.

“This is a cup game; it is different from the league. The Barclays cup could be our consolation,” Power coach Kelvin Kaindu said.

Power are two-time Barclays Cup champions while Nkana are yet to win the cup.

Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda is expecting a good game against Young Buffaloes.

“We expect a good game. We will not underrate them. We will play the usual game as Buffaloes and hope to carry the day,” Musonda said.

Young Buffaloes coach Josephat Mulenga said:”We have been focused for us to reach this far.”

This will be the two sides second meeting in cup competition since the 2003 Coca Cola Cup that Buffaloes won 1-0 in the first round before making a quarterfinal exit at the hands of the eventual winners Power.

The Barclays Cup final will be played on November 10 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
