Minister of Transport Mutotwe Kafwaya give assorted good as a Christmas presents to Mrs. Mutonga at Cancer Disease Hospital

Government is concerned with some civil servants who get paid for not delivering services to the people of Zambia who are their employers.

Works and Supply Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya said the salaries and all work benefits each member of staff gets is from the Zambian people who deserve good service from the workers.

Mr. Kafwaya said it will not do for any employee in the Ministry of Works and Supply to think that they are bosses when they are not.

He was speaking when he addressed workers under the Preventive Maintenance for Northern Province in Kasama.

Mr. Kafwaya said anyone working in his Ministry should embrace the change in attitude starting with him to the lowest position and embrace the realisation that all positions have been made possible by Zambians who are the masters.

He said all workers in the Ministry must be paid for working and not to be paid for reporting to work.

Mr. Kafwaya said all Government properties that include motor vehicles, belong to Zambians adding that when his ministry through the Control of Government Transport conduct checks on the misuse of vehicles, it is meant to safeguard the equipment for the purpose of delivering service to the people.

He further noted that the action being carried out by the CGT is not for the victimisation of public workers entrusted with the equipment but to curtail abuse of public properties.

Mr. Kafwaya has since given the provincial maintenance officer two months in which to collect and submit an inventory report of all public assets without fail, the directive which was also extended to the Controller of Government Transport at the province to equally collect and submit a full inventory of motor vehicles in the province.

He said it is important that all government assets are documented and accounted for so as to avoid the accusations on government by some people who think the money borrowed was not properly used.

Mr. Kafwaya also took time to inspect the operations of the Mbesuma pontoon and expressed happiness that works on the bridge have started.

The Minister encouraged ESCO to make sure that while the bridge is being constructed, the pontoon should be in good working order so that people continue with the normal lives.

  1. Civil Servants concerned about government not delivering services to the people. No salaries, no health services, hence the evacuation to India and South Africa, no schools, hence 500 teachers off to Seychelles, no jobs, hence suicide of unemployed youth… etc.

    • I have always advised people to join GRZ in any capacity. Because even a messenger for a Minister reports to work at 9:30 am instead of 08:00 am. And ministers driver report at 10:00 am.
Every GRZ employee has time to go to his farm at least 3 days a week.

  2. What example or inspiration will civil servants get to deliver when they always see high ranking govt officials at KKIA to see Lungu off all the time? Two wrongs don’t make a right ,but heck let’s be real, let’s be honest with ourselves about Zambia’s idle high ranking officials.

  3. Lungu should set an example by staying at home and taking responsibility for the many problems our nation is facing and not just increasing his wages and that of his under performing ministers . This country is at the mess of Tuma so called media PR directors especially that Amos I know it all Chanda . Just seeing that guy makes me sick .

  4. Contractors and Farmers are suffering and yet Civil servants are enjoying as if they are the only citizens of this country. We shall see 2021 is approaching already January is out.

  5. That`s Zambian culture, no responsibility at all, go to the hospital and you will wait for hours while they nurse is on whats app….. or chatting to some one about rubbish

  6. How about this “Civil servants and Zambians concerned with some Zambian ministers who get paid for not delivering services to the people of Zambia who are their employers.” This sounds more real than what this minister is ranting about! Amassing wealth through dubious means and cheating on inflated projects just to get the difference. Overcharging your own country just to scoop the difference for your pockets.
    This is a disaster.
