Wedson Nyirenda prepares for final dash to save Baroka

Ex-Chipolopolo Wedson Nyirenda’s third from bottom club Baroka FC got a bit of breathing space in their relegation battle on Wednesday following a 2-2 away draw at Free State Stars.

Baroka stay put at number 14 on 25 points despite the result with three games left in which to save their souls for another term in the South Africa PSL.

Baroka and Free State Stars drew 0-0 in the first leg in Polokwane last September.

Meanwhile, Nyirenda’s critical matches in which to save himself starts with a home date against eleventh placed Amazulu, who have 30 points, on April 28 before visiting third positioned Bidvest Wits on May 4 in Johannesburg.

Nyirenda lost both first legs 1-0 away in Durban and 2-1 at home against Wits.

He will close his PSL season on May 11 with a massive relegation dog-fight against bottom side Maritzburg United in Polokwane whom Baroka beat 1-0 away last December.

  1. Nyirenda’s Baroka lose to weaker teams and they beat stronger teams – its a myth. He does not have quality strikers and his defense is very weak; He needs to buy two new strikers the next season if he is still in the PLC, like Mwape Musonda (black Leopards) or Mulenga (Orlando Pilates).
