Zambia’s Professor Clive Chirwa has been offered and accepted for a position of visiting Professor at Xiamen University of Technology in Xiamen, Fujian Province, in China.
Professor Chirwa, is Former Zambia Railways Chief Executive officer, his plan for an underground tube train was not embraced by the Patriotic Front.
He was later pushed out from the Railways Company in unclear circumstances with authorities grabbing away his passport so he could not travel out of Zambia.
Critics accused Professor Chirwa of leading a lavish lifestyle during his time at the Zambia Railways Company.
Professor Chirwa was appointed Managing Director of Zambia Railways on November 7, 2012 but only lasted only seven months after being dismissed in controversial circumstances.
He majored in crashworthiness which determines the suitability of airplanes to fly.
The Russian and United Kingdom trained engineer majored in Automobile and Tractor Engineering at Volgograd University in Russia in 1975 and later Masters degree in Automotive Engineering in 1981 at Cranfield University in the UK.
He joined Mechanical Services Department (MSD) in 1980 in Zambia and a year later joined University of Zambia as a lecturer.
Professor Chirwa then did his PhD at the University of Liverpool.
He also studied aerospace engineering in the United Kingdom.
We actually don’t seem to like intellectuals in Zambia, we fear being challenged. So best is we export them to go and help other countries that are more advanced than us to continue advancing while we watch and admire.
This is one of Zambia’s finest brains sadly these intellectually bankrupt thieves in power set him up to fail!
Imagine if he had managed to get all goods on trains and only passenger traffic on roads it meant that GBM, Membe and so many ministers and fake transporters would have been out of business. Then there was the euro bond money PF wanted. You just have to look at how these PF have raided anywhere they smell money!

No wonder this son of the soil is highly revered world over! We missed a great opportunity as a country with unnecessary politicking in Zambia Railways. Sad.

Unfortunately being in Diaspora is viewed with a lot of suspicion. And Prof. Chirwa was no exception, they wanted him to fail. When these politicians us in diaspora to solicit for campaign funds they appear very reasonable but the truth is they are just thieves. The poor people are being abused daily by stealing the meagre resources that mother Zambia can provide them.
The article has left out some key qualification on the Professor’s CV.
He holds two Masters degrees and two earned Doctorate degrees. He is the world’s rare authority on automotive engineering and crashwortheness. He has been a key consultant to; BMW, Benz, Marcopolo, Scania, Land Rover Jaguar, Rolls Royce, NASA, Boeing, Airbus, the British Government on science and technology. Professor Chirwa is also a prolific inventor. He invented the land gear for the vehicle that successfully landed on mass.
He is founder and chief editor of the worlds renowned Crashworthness Journal. Distinguished Professor Clive E. Chirwa with a Doctorate in Science and a Doctorate in Engineering is truly a rare breed of a world class intellectual. He is a citizen of the world. A global asset.

He is indeed an accomplished man. It’s good my brother that you have added some more aspects that were missing to his CV in the article. He is both an academic and industry practitioner. A rare combination.

We need to celebrate our own.
He’s not welcome in Zambia because cadres will suck his blood and finish him. Zambia is under capture and educated people have buried their heads in the sand as the country is ripped in pieces by people who never sat in a classroom but can sing praises for whoever is in the driving seat for favours and clearance to commit crime with impunity.
The highest level you can go in Zambia and be respected is LLB with a record of chewing client’s money, only then can you be said to be umuntu ni Ba Koswe.
He made a mistake to come to Zambia for that ZR position. People are so backward in this country, too much jealousy too. He is not a perfect man, but Zambians in parastatals and public institutions need to change their attitude if we have to develop as a country.
I think it also has a lot to do with how his competence was overrated by giving him the powers of a Managing Director. Prof. Chirwa is a good engineer no doubt but he might not be a good manager or the right person to implement good ideas on the field.
Congratulation prof, please do not for prey to any offers again in Zambia…jealous and people who don’t appreciate new ideas are too many….Please just remember to push for scholarships for many that are interested in education in Zambia especially our youths who are our future
We also have other doctors and professors in Zambia eg. dr. Kambwili and dr. GB Bwalya, any use in Zambia.

It is with great delight that I congratulate you professor for the job well done. You are Zambia’s greatest mind and there is no doubt about it…the time I sent in your engineering class I could tell that we were being taught by the greatest mind Africa had to offer.

Zambia, ZESCO, ZANACO, Zamtel, ZP, ZNBC, ZAF etc I can still continue, the list is endless.
Congratulations professor Chirwa, however it should not be only a job offer with that of education you attained, you need to be an enventer and not an employee.
Something Zambian graduates are afraid of, to stand start up bring up some thing from their brains.
