Sunday Chanda with UPND President Hakainde Hichilema
Sunday Chanda with UPND President Hakainde Hichilema

”Politics by their nature can get intense, but politics should by no means become a grudge driven no-holds-barred personal battle where one individual develops personal vendettas against another. Mr. Hichilema permanently appears to be in a rage where he permanently blames others even for his self-inflicted woes…In fact, all of his many political scars and bruising have been as a result of battles with himself that he lost”.

By Sunday Chilufya Chanda

During a recent Independence Celebration for one of our friendly nations, I looked forward to an evening of friendship with the hosts as well as other foreign and local dignitaries.

Among the local guests was Mr Hakainde Hichilema, the leader of the main opposition UPND. Upon noticing his presence as he was being interviewed by the media, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya who was guest of honour and I went and greeted him after doing so with several other guests. I anticipated a cordial, brotherly conversation in spite of our political divergences.

However, the UPND leader suddenly turned the celebratory air into an acrimonious atmosphere when he alleged that I “insult” him, how he’s “noted” what I write (I guess my file is growing bigger and bigger by the day) and that he is not going to “leave Zambia “ for me.

This not the first time that the UPND leader has uttered personal threats against this author.

Only a few months ago when he featured on a live radio phone in programme, Mr Hichilema was passionately menacing when threatened to make this writers’ life miserable because he would be made “to flee Zambia” in the unlikely event that the UPND leader became president.

During my recent encounter with Hakainde, I could not help but notice how deeply rooted his bitterness has developed and how and personal and petty he has sadly become. The venomous intensity of what spewed forth from his mouth portrayed the picture of blind rage.

Politics by their nature can get intense, but politics should by no means become a grudge driven no-holds-barred personal battle where an individual pursues personal vendettas against another.

My elder brother Hakainde is troubled. He appears to be permanently in rage and permanently blaming others even for his self-inflicted woes. He is the perfect example of how troubles hurt the most when they are self-inflicted.
His anger typically involves the externalising of blame. He considers the source of his anger to be outside of himself, when it is really inside of himself.

In fact, all of his many political scars and bruising have been as a result of a battle with himself that he lost.

The problem with my elder brother is that he is quick to blame others for his lack of political progress, but slow to blame his own dubious strategies of promoting fake news, regionalism and a people-detached UPND “Life Presidency”. The tragedy is that he keeps repeating them over and over again, trying to make them work.

Those 4 minutes were unmemorable.

I wish to repeat what I said to Mr. Hichilema in my previous articles: “When you accost us with insults we will not hear you; but when you present constructive criticism without malice, we will not only hear you, but we will listen to you.

If Hichilema stop telling lies about the Patriotic Front Government of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu; then we will stop telling the truth about him.” I really look forward to engaging Mr Hichilema for 40 minutes as cordially as brothers would, especially at events commemorating our own national days.

Let us have politics of decency rather than hostile confrontations

    • Sunday you maybe accused of homosexuality, why stoking a fellow man even in weekend?
why are you working for PF 7 days a week, ulichipuba or what the fuuck is wrong with fella?
      Drink responsibly guys.

    • Sunday, you even chose the right picture! The Delusional Dictator HH is condescending and bitter to the core. It’s why I laugh at his sheeples when they say Zambians are dull for not voting for this wamuyayaya UPNDelusional Dictator. The fact is Zambian voters can recognize the Lucifer in this mans soul!

    • Sunday Chanda isn’t a member of government. Why doesn’t he leave the govt spokesperson to comment when govt policy decisions come in for criticism from the opposition? In a real democracy, Sunday as a mere political party operative would be rarely in the news as this eould be dominated by MPs and ministers. A political party is governed under the rules of a private club and its internal affairs are run privately and therefore known only by the membership. Party and its government mentality drives Sunday’s politics and is considered backward by those who wish to see progress in Zambian politics.

    • Iwe boi, Sunday … its immemorable not filya you wrote.

As for Hakalusa Hagain, please let him lose peacefully next time hagain

      Epo empelele,

      BRM

    • Well said Sunday. Just be mindful in future that we are all Zambians first and not tribal or political allergiant. As for Hakaivotela Humwine, let him be and concentrate on having friends in his house. Hakahimwena Hakulusa lyonse come 2021. But stop insulting all southerners young man.

    • Ka Sunday Chanda is a rotten egg!

Even if he was run away from Zambia and ask for asylum even China would not grant him.

Chanda thinks about what to lie about HH all the the time.

All his articles he writes are never about praising Lungu for his leadership because there is absolutely nothing to praise Lungu for. So to get paid he concentrates on writing insults against a man who the rest of world knows is honest calm and collected.

Even Lungu doesn’t like kasunday that’s why he got Antonio Mwanya to replace him.

    • Sunday, uliwalubuli. Surely why do u like telling Mr. Hichilema truths he doesn’t want to hear?

    • He hated… you shared the hate

      Guy

Let’s stop behavin’ like chicks in menopause!

      It’s embarassing!

  1. Sunday!
HH should receive your advice as a wakeup call. Let him declare party elections at all levels and if the party members decide that he continues then he has a right to stand head high.
Now HH is worse that the some dictators on the African soil. If without the instruments of power, he can behave this way then how would he behave with the instruments of power in his hand. People wake up.

    • HH has had a life , a working life before politics where he was chief executive. How has he treated those who were under his supervision? If u really want to know how he exercised executive power, talk to those he once supervised for that is as close to what he could be if he becomes president as one could get. PF leaders go on ZNBC tv to insult HH but the media house would not even bother to ask for his reaction.

    • Tell that to Lungu. Why is punishing those who want to challenge him by sending ACC on them while leaving those who do not want to challenge him?

Ayopa chain Lungu. When is the convention for PF?

  2. I read it trice, and this article is an apology letter from Sunday to Hichilema.
Good that Sunday is making peace with HH. I just wonder why Sunday have stopped insulting HH, but still stoking him.

    • This is no apology but wisdom being exhibited by a younger man towards an elder man. Do not misconstrue that as an apology. When someone offers you a lending hand when you are sinking, it would be balddersh to deny that. Grow up fellas because the UPND will go nowhere and only remain in southern and now only part of western and north western.

  3. Yaba, he really gets into your pants with hot coals! Stop insulting and demeaning him! He will give yoy respect too! Introspect on your behaviour towards him, you may realise you are the one who is too bitter! He rarely or even never mentions or writes about you, but you daily do that! Inferiority complex?

  4. Ba Chanda, No one knows what future holds. In that job you have do your articles also with decency. Not everyone can forgive and indeed if one day HH became president things can be bad for you, Remember the late Chanda Chimba..professional issue based articles with facts are good not character assassination. I pray that in that 4 minutes you also picked something of value. HH May have his encounters you never know but yours. Brother do self introspection. Am not saying you become week but your articles should only at least sound filya. Enjoy your long weekend

  5. The albatross round Trib.al Hack’s neck is trib.alism. The boy’s political birth was trib.al and it continues to this day. Knowing that he is a trib.al, I cannot listen to what he says because trib.als by nature have trib.al objectives in whatever they say or do, no matter how good it looks on the surface or how white his teeth are when he smiles….. it’s all trib.al trib.al trib.al etc etc. I find it safer not to listen to him, much safer to ignore him. And I am not the only one, there are millions out there who think like me, especially after 2016. Unless he apologises for his trib.al troubles, watch his end in 2021 either to Edgar or to any rival entity that will surface soon without any doubt.

    • You sir, you are a tribal yourself. Actually if you do some serious self introspection you will realise of a dire need for some repentance on your part. You are not only labelling one person but a whole tribe as tribals. Repent boss.

    • Yes, it is tribalism to speak Lozi or Tonga because these languages don’t really belong in Zambia. I see this regularly in Lusaka. In 1990 during the football world cup in Italy, Africa was made proud by the exploits of Cameroun and we all felt proud. How many of us knew that the way Cameroun was governed was leaving many people hurting? Peace and stability are now under threat in Cameroun. Bombs are going off, people are being killed and women are being raped. Looking down upon fellow citizens can’t be a strong foundation for building a peaceful and cohesive nation.

  6. What a real wanker Sunday Chanda is! Without any shame this loser thinks he is at the same level as HH, which portrays a disillusioned big but empty monkey head he has!
Sunday Chanda is nothing but a petty thief who will spend time or even rot in jail in the next republic! HH’s security should be robust enough not to expose HH to rogues like Sunday Chanda cos that is real security breach and threat. We lost AKM in unclear circumstances and we don’t want to happen again ever! Sunday Chanda and Kaizar Zulu move around with spray poison. The only reason HH survived is because this wars at the American Embassy and Chanda was screened before going in.

  7. Different day Same sh.it from this Chanda.

Is it Sunday’s job to talk about HH day in day out ?

Sunday, Zambia is faced with numerous problems you can articulate , HH is not the cause of these problems

You seem to sleep HH , dream HH wake up HH eat HH ?

  8. Nostradamus for the first time ever since I have known you have write sense.
Many of ant – UPND are peace advocates BUT the pro-UPND are not .

Right now am in southern province (choma) still more the political psychology is NOT good on the ground.2016 mood is real in the province.

Endocrinologist (HH) has affected the people of southern province of HATRED and BITTERNESS.

  9. Sunday Chanda from your rhetoric over the past two articles I have read from you, you seem to be a gifted writer with a big imagination. However I think you are spending too much time blogging on socials trying to assasinate the character of one HH. If you can caption your mailbox here, I can send my dogged copy of a nice book on time management so that possibly with those writing skills you can publish something worthwile. Stop wasting time on HH, he is good folk we know that. Good day.

  10. All of you politicians need to, and must grow up! You are messing up the people and countries.

It’s so sad that yesteryear’s crop of politicians will never again have the opportunity to serve us.

May YHWH help you and us!

  11. You don’t beg for respect, you earn it !! Why should HH stoop down to this man’s level? HH is an intelligent and decent human being so please don’t insult his intelligence. Now am I being tribal? Hell no!! There is too much tribalism in this PF and it’s unacceptable!! Zambia is for all Zambians!!

    • If HH were intelligent he would have long been President of Zambia already. He has had opportunities but messed them up. You do not ascend to power by threatening people or those who disagree with you. If part of your agenda is to send citizens into exile when you assume power, forget it, you will not get it.

  12. HH and Chanda their beef is beyond politics. In 2017 Chanda’s younger brother (an auditor)was brutally killed in southern province.
Furthermore, investigations depicts that the murder was spawned by both social and political differences. Perpetrators were nabbed and jailed by the end of last year. The jury slapped long jail sentences for cold blooded killing.
However, politics is groundbreaking for permanent grudge among the elites in Zambia.

  13. I heard that Hichilema is very courteous to prominent widows, to others he’s not. The first time he lost elections in 2006 he blamed Edith Nawakwi, he even threatened to beat her. Now he blames the Bemba so Bembas are on the receiving end of his brutality in Tongaland. The freemason is evil, his bitterness will take him to Gehenna

  14. Sad that what the American Ambassador complained about in his speech is exactly what the 2 camps exhibited under the “Ambassador’s very nose”
The Ambassador spoke strongly against divisive politics in Zambia that is turnishing the country’s democratic standing

  15. Ever head of HH denouncing tribalism? He knows where his votes comes from. Let’s not pretend, us all know what’s happening in our beautiful country. Seems it will stay this way because of greedy leaders.

  16. Ever heard of PF leader denounce tribalism? Hell no!! Double standards when you’ll point fingers at Tongas and you claim to be innocent in this problem. What happens when you alienate some group(s) of people is that they will group together and empower themselves and protect their rights. Better the devil you know, and by the way why should’nt Tonga’s vote for the one they like? No one tribe is better than the other… we all have an equal right to our Zambia. We are all proud Zambians and we are not stupid to have to be forced to vote for nonsense that does not serve our best interests.

  17. UPND is just Southern Province their Country.Out of 11 Presidential Candidates, HH 97% and 3% shared by the remaining 10 Candidates. Tribalism at its best

  18. Sunday for me in the unlikely event that I became president, the first thing I will do is do an audit of your wealth, then go to ZRA and find out if you have been paying any taxes and then nail you to the cross with larger than life nails.

  19. In Romans 12:9-20, I pick some of the words from this portion of scripture: Love must be sincere, hate what is evil cling to what is good, be devoted to one another in brotherly love, honor one another above your selves, never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual favor serving the Lord. The Bible goes on to say be joyful in hope patient in affliction and in verse 16 says leave in harmony with one another….do not repay evil for evil verse 18 if possible as far as it depends on you live at peace with every one. Do not take revenge my friends for it is mine to avenge says the Lord. Mr. Chanda kindly read this portion of scripture and may the holy spirit minister to you. You portray your self to be in the right over this matter but far from it. Both you and Mr. Hakainde need serious…

  20. Sunday f*ucking chanda, no person who cherish morality and Christian values will allowed to be seen in the company of crooked, immoral and thieving son of many fathers.

  21. Chanda please read all the articles you have written about HH and indeed about other opposition leaders. You will immediately find out that you have not just been criticising them ,which is okay, but you have been abusing them, which is unacceptable.Your intention in all your articles has been to maliciously demean and humiliate them as not only leaders of political parties but also as ordinary human being like you and me.All human beings do not forget those who treat them with contempt and for you to expect HH to have treated differently is to be very naive. He told you truthfully how he felt, whilst you acted hypocritically .None of us can be 100% sure what we become tomorrow but we can decide today to treat all people with respect, sincerity and courtesy.

  22. Hate HH all you can but that can never change God’s destiny for him just like nothing ever changed edgar’s.

  23. “If Hichilema stop telling lies about the Patriotic Front Government of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu; then we will stop telling the truth about him.” I’m hoping this is a typo which probably it isn’t says a lot about what kind of man Sunday Chanda is, notwithstanding he chooses to disclose some private interaction just to be liked. WOW! Seems Sunday Chilufya Chanda has no law of limits.

  24. Band Chanda, for 4 minutes HH was only talking about how you insult him? I think he must have said something you did not want to hear. Anyway thanks for the apology to HH.

  25. Sunday Chanda is a child to HH, what has he achieved on his own without taxpayers’s money and boot licking. Impossible to come to such a conclusion after meeting someone for only 4 minutes. This is a very immature article, HH told you to your face how he feels and you run to the press instead of you also telling him. Look at mwanawasa and Sata when they met they talked like grown ups, they acknowledged how they both need each other, the country is collapsing in your face because you don’t value the opposition

    • China: Sata and Mwanawasa only made up aftr the former couldn’t believe that the man he so despised was there to ensure that he was given advanced medical attention aftr a life-threatening heart attack. Sata’s attacks on Mwanawasa even extended to his tribe. This was one thing that made many people to start asking if it was wrong to aspire for high political office is u originate from certain parts of Zambia.

  26. Weekend like this , chanda was supposed to take his wife for a sweet get away, or visit his village and see what he can do for the country folk, the HH he talking about found this holiday as opportunity to visit his country folk and his businesses, what has chanda invested in his village?

  27. Sunday wachilamo, takwaba ati lyonse kulanda pa muntu umo. we know your hatred for HH is evident but give the man a chance please. This is multiparty dispensation meaninh HH is also a stakeholder. We know you fear loose power to him but have some decency. With all the hatred and lies you peddle against the man, you must be terribly insane to think the man will smile when you meet him. Get a life , Man. Be civil

  28. The American Ambassador should have given you guys a room for an hour for man to man discussion. Kabili mwalikwata am egos but Hichilema lost it, should have used moment to show he aint bitter.

  29. you people who are comment HH has political party and sunday is nobody who is working his belly how do we compare the two. sunday is not the one to vote let him do what is employed to do which is fraid of the future if HH become the President. he should ask history. sata was insulted and ask your friend.

  30. Sunday. You call yourself civil with all that diatribe you spew. My foot! You need to have your head/mental health checked! I f I were you I would not even go near HH
Count yourself lucky it was not Kambwili because it would have been uglier. Sunday did you pay attention to theUS ambassador’s jibe about divisive politics and unending campaigns and cardrerism. Your articles are an embodiment of all that.
