Munaile eyes FAZ Presidency

Share

Former FAZ Vice-President Emmanuel Munaile has announced he will run for football’s top office at the elective annual general meeting next year.

This is according to an online video released Monday evening.

Munaile says he had gathered enough experience both as a player, coach and administrator to help revamp the dwindled fortunes of Zambian football.

The former Mufulira Wanderers defensive midfielder who also captained the Chipolopolo is confident his expertise will help change course in the administration of the country’s most popular sport.

“Our football has not been the same. It needs serious strategizing and planning if we have to get back to our old winning ways,” he says.

“After serving first as a player, committee member and vice president I am concerned, like everyone else, with the state of affairs of our number one sport.

“It’s for this reason that am offering myself to contest as president of the Football Association of Zambia at the next elective annual general meeting.”

FAZ goes to the poll in March 2020 when councillors will decide the composition of the full committee committe with only three positions to be contested at the national meeting.

Positions of committee members will be decided at provincial assemblies preceding the elective AGMs.

Munaile, a committee member under Evaristo Kasunga between 2000 and 2004, becomes the third candidate to publicly announce their intentions to challenge incumbent Andrew Kamanga.

The former Zanaco executive served as FAZ vice-president to Kalusha Bwalya in 2008 before he quit midway through citing mal-administration.

Others in the race to Football House are Chingola-based duo Blackwell Siwale and Gideon Mwenya.

  1. Kicking a ball and managing FAZ is not the same However, our soccer has reached the bottom end and no one can take it any further. Mr Munaile, how about a manifesto?

  2. In most countries where football has developed to great heights it is only those who have had kicked the ball who are in the forefront and not common civilian from another world , football is another world and those who live in that world understand the same world.

  3. I think I would prefer Munaile as President.. The Game has really gone down.. No Africa Cup participation -two in a row.. It has never happened to Zambia.. And AFOCN is never the same without Zambia, Itell..

  4. Kalusha has the best interest of Zambian football at heart. All well meaning Zambians should go and petition the great Kalu to stands for the FAZ top job. Anyone who is against Kalu is also against the Zambian football.

Only Kalu can bring trophies to Zambia
Only Kalu can improve the standards of the game in Zambia
Only Kalu has got connection both at FIFA CAF
Only the best is good enough for Kalu and Zambia at large

    • Munaile has my vote. Kalu cannot take football any further. Let him run an academy or something like that. We don’t need an antagonist at the helm of the beautiful game. Kalu is TOO selfish

    • You are corrupt like Kalu. We don’t need connections anywhere, we need to do the right and work hard.
We don’t need people who get us corrupt Favors if we are to make permanent progression.

  5. I would definately support Munaile over ba Kamanga. Munaile has been around football for a long time and ran football affairs before and has leadership experience. At the rate Zambian football is going down Munaile is the best option over Kamanga. AK nafilwa period.

  6. The reason for the national team performance is far from Mr Kamanga’s leadership. Unless you tell me that its Mr Kamanga who plays football or selects the players. Zambians just like in politics we fail to deal with the root cause of our problems. Our players drink a lot of beer and like nightlife. What did the FAZ of 1988 do to make Zambia beat Italy 4-0. The 2012 team that won the Africa cup had a disciplinarian for a coach who chased the likes of Clifford Mulenga from the team for misbehaving. The Canada under 20 world cup was played by Fwayo Tembo, Clifford Mulenga, Sebastian Mwansa from Zambia whilst Argentina had the likes of Sergio Aguero. Whilst Aguero is still banging goals in the premiership our own are nowhere to be seen. Why?

    • Mr munaile you think you can improve and run better as it looks
      From outside.Even kamamga was
Was saying that when he came.
Everything looks easy from outside just like a Substitute on bench will Think he will score ten goals.

  7. Mr Munaile was the Vice President to Kalusha and his track record is known. It is not true that football can only be run by former footballers, infact the opposite is the case. When Zambia was doing very well in the 70s, 80s and 90s it was not former footballers who were running it but people with football interest. the problem we have in Zambia is we think development is only about winning. No one talks of winning the under 20 Africa cup under Kamanga. Nobody talks about the strides we have made in Women soccer and nobody seem to see how teams in the lower divisions are being assisted. Division one which will be the national league will now be televised, when did this happen/ not under Kamanga? Give praise where it is due. Hate the man wont take us anywhere. Infact its not us to decide…

  8. Those who were benefitting from ticket sells are very bitter with Kamanga because he has cut their livelihood and they want him out at all costs. Is this the only time we have missed going to Africa cup? Kamanga is trying to make FAZ self reliant for the first time instead of everytime running to Government. All division two teams were dressed with two sets of jerseys and footballs, when has it ever happened? Bring back the thieves and you will not see the FIFA grant being used for the benefit of the teams especially in the lower divisions. At least now teams are seeing how the FIFA grant is benefiting them. Councilor’s vote wisely. Chibangu.
