One person was this morning shot on the right thigh as he was selling his merchandise in a boutique at Intercity Bus terminus in the incident believed to be in connection with the funeral procession held by the UPND today.

Police in the morning blocked a procession and dispersed UPND cadres who staged a funeral procession from Kanyama township to the Cathedral of the holy cross defying the Police directive not to do so.

Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja said after being dispersed, the cadres scampered in different directions while others went to Intercity Bus terminus where one Thomas Chibilika aged 42 of Mtendere Compound is reported to have been shot in a Boutique where he was selling his merchandise.

Mr Kanganja said Police have instituted investigations in the shooting incidence and while the victim was rushed to UTH where he is receiving treatment while police are still monitoring the situation.

He has directed Police officers to sternly deal with all those who opt to deliberately bend the law and officers should not be blamed for consequences that may arise as a result of police action as they had been forewarned.

Mr Kanganja further appealed to the UPND Leadership to manage their cadres by advising them to avoid engaging in such unruly behavior which has potential to lead to break down in law and order.

He said in as much as Police understand that a life was lost, they cannot allow lawlessness to take center stage in as demonstrated by UPND cadres who went to the street and caused confusion by breaking the law with impunity.

He explained that police received information yesterday that cadres from the UPND who had gathered for the funeral of the late Lawrence Banda who died in Kaoma district of western province recently, were planning to match to the cathedral of the holy cross where a funeral service of the deceased was to be held.

Mr Kanganja said on receipt of this information, Police went to the funeral house and engaged mourners not to proceed with their intentions as it had potential to bring about disorderliness.

He said despite the advice, between 10:00 hours and 11:00 hours today, the UPND cadres went ahead and staged the funeral procession from Kanyama to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Mr Kanganja said the cadres are reported to have been unruly and are alleged to have caused damage to property and caused alarm and fear in people in surrounding areas forcing business houses to close.

He said the total damage caused is yet to be established among them motor vehicles whose windscreens were shattered.

    • Suffocating story.
He was a Lusaka boy who went to die in Kaoma.
Cadres ought not be moving from one town to another. These are the same characters who bring chaos.
Political p.ro.st.i.tu.te Silvia Masebo should be ashamed of herself.
Billionaire H² should take care of that family (Widow and Orphan).
LT should be giving me quarterly reports on this family.
Police was right. Even funerals must observe POA.
      I love Zambian Police.

    • From Kanyama to die for HH in Kaoma….looks like UPND have started shooting each other now and they will be putting the blame on PF bandits….i cant stand Cadres…they’re eyesore and foolish…..they think acting tough will put food on their Tables…but most of the times they end in Jail or dead

    • Carrying coffin from Kanyama to Cathedral of Holy Cross? That was too long and unnecessary.
      You know am straight on:
      – UPND’s Lawrence Banda was from Lusaka, going to cause evoke in Kaoma.
      – Lawrence was murdered by his fellow PF thugs from Lusaka who knew him well that “Gaddafi” can fight.
      What is wrong here:
      – Lawrence Banda didn’t deserve a funeral at Cathedraw of Holy Cross, that church is for people who lived well, not these cadres, thugs.
What was good about Lawrence Banda?
      – His son, so innocent
      – His family has lost someone over useless Council elections, out theeeere in Kaoma.

    • Lawrence was shot by UPND cadres and his President is UNELECTABLE. He is also a leader of confusion trying to plunge peaceful Zambia into a tribal warlord.

    • The path that African countries take as they begin their slow descent into chaos has been well documented by historians and other social scientists. It seems strange that universities are unable to sound the alarm.

    • The introduction of gun violence in Zambia is something every peace loving Zambian should be gravely concerned about. Because it’ll totally lead to unimaginable violence and the breakdown of law and order. Zambia will soon be known as a dangerous violent country, rife with gun-totting maniacs. And this will scare tourists and investors away, which will drastically affect the country’s economy. Clueless corrupt Lungu is fast asleep. Him and his government need to quickly initiate a zero tolerance towards the illegal possession of guns, and mete out stiff penalties for illegal gun dealing and gun possession—if they’re to nip this problem in the bud. You need to start now, you foo1s, before the problem spirals out of control. Somebody wake Lungu the drunkard up and tell him to act…

  1. Now people are not allowed to air their views.
No matter what goes wrong we cannot express ourselves otherwise police will shoot.

  2. Kanganja, let people mourn don’t you know about freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and other rights you denying them based on party affiliation. The ruling party cadres meanwhile can assemble anywhere, any time and even kill with your officers just standing by. You are the most useless inspector of police ever, you and ECL will be referred to ICC for all the atrocities committed against your adversaries. This is no longer Zambia police but PF police.

  3. you’re so fu cki quick to act when it’s the opposition. when is p f you sit on your fat as s and do nothing
why is pf above the law in Zambia?

  4. If only this IG PF cader delt with all law breakers this way , Zambia would be a peacfull place, but seems PF are above the law………

What of PF caders holding impromptu demos and that KZ terrorizing citizens ??

  5. These tribles!! They wanted to parade their dead cadre in the streets, they have no respect for their dead colleague. Reasonable people would want to send off their colleague in total civility and respect. They should also respect the bereaved family and not treating their loved one like a bundle of disposal garbage.

  6. This Kanganja is a shameless Pf cadre without any competence. A man sick of inferiority complex. To him Lungu is more important than the whole Zambia.

  7. And Mrs Sylvia ninshi so? Is that how Trible UPND has finished her? They dont feed her?

…oh and the orphan, please tell trible HH to ensure that UPND looks after him. Not just ba Sylvia posing for political gain.

Oh I forgot, some leaders will say “don’t politicise a funeral”

  8. The picture is of Sylvia Masebo holding the true victim of UPND political violence. It’s emotive and the cheap sentimental score card she tries to tick up with this child abuse of the child’s privacy to mourn his father is nothing short of political criminal behaviour.

    Shame on UPND.

  9. The police should have merely accorded an escort to the mourners. This is a funeral for goodness sake! What a purchased compromised unprofessional force we have.I am sure this was on instruction from their bitter loser bosses. No regard for the lost life or allowing people to mourn the way they want – only interested in political scores. The police behaviour is what caused the subsequent chaos and shooting.

This PF is nauseating, to say the least.

  10. There is a wind of change when the public expression of frustration is not restricted to a collection supporters known as cadres, but the energy of the movement catches the attention of the general masses and they have no choice but to join in. Unfortunately, this incident will not go down well with ba ZP!!! Filya nabeshiba…! Elyo chimbi, I find it a bit desperate and cheap for anyone to think that the demonstration was caused by the police. HOW mwebantu???

  11. Interesting observations that the late Mr Lawrence Banda was a Lusaka resident!
Two shootings do not help make the situation better for our country. Tafyawama ifi fyabupuba kwena. May order be restored again and the family of the deceased find comfort and peace in this difficult time.

  12. PF Police for real ati “…to avoid engaging in such unruly behavior which has potential to lead to break down in law and order.” PF shot the man dead and for them thats not unruly behaviour. Someone is busy selling in his kantemba and he is shot at by PF police again thats not unruly behaviour.
Guys the writing is on the wall. Longeni even stolen money but you will account for all these and time is near … sooner and very soon wina azanya!
    Disaster!!!!

  13. How I wish president Edgar Lungu appointed me as Home Affairs Minister to cage HH and put him where he belongs (jail)!!!The 5th presidential defeats have gotten to HH’s head such that he now sees 2021 elections as do or die!!!HH’s daily prayer is to see Zambia become ungovernable,so its high time president Edgar Lungu caged Kainde and his violent cadres!!!It is also a warning to peace loving Zambians because if UPND can be so violent in opposition, what if we give them power?Civil war could be the order of the day under UPND Govnt-God forbid!!!HH’s desperation for state house is putting Zambia’s peace on high risk!!!CAGE KAINDE PLEASE URGENTLY!!

  14. When are we individual people going to say enough is enough. Even comments above can tell that there is no that voice of reason who despite party affiliation will stand up to say it’s time to do the right thing. Just a mare council election can bring so much violence how about when we get to 2021 how will it be. If we continue this way we passing a bad legacy to our young generation. This country is for all Zambians no one has more rights than the other individual. We the people are the problem because we have allowed that spirit that cause division and chaos to reign supreme over us. We know the right we ought to do but for some reason we are not doing it. If we don’t change we just making it worse for ourselves.

  15. LT, that’s misleading the public and publishing false information. Lawrence Banda was murdered by his upnd colleague and not a PF cadre. Even today, it was a violent upnd funeral procession and PF had nothing to do with it. The public did their best to ignore these vile, satanic and tribalistic thugs from upnd but they wanted to be noticed that’s why they ended up shooting someone else. Upnd is a violent, tribslistic, extremist and satanic party who Zambians are becoming aware of daily.

  16. Am married to the cousin of the late. Sorry to write this. The late stayed in Mtendere compound one time.He was staying in A section just after Zambeef corner. He was once in MMD as politics cadet groups found at Mtendere bus last bus stop.During 2011 general elections he was among youths who were under William Banda in three camps one Mtendere,Baulen and Chainda .Unfortunately MMD lost power to PF him and others disappeared.Later on family notice that he is in kanyama even with a wife. However, his behavior is the cause of his premature death. They used to beat people in the name of cadreism.Family members were apart from his political behavior hence he never listened to them.
Its a big lesson for youths in the general.

    • Context changes fact. Thank you for sharing. So mwamvela ma cadres and all opportunists; muyanu had a ka track record. Iyi ndiye tikuti kazikani pansi awisi boyi calo ni cuyipa ici…

  17. @Zambian Citizen now spouting Mumbi’s unsubstantiated allegation that the man was killed by UPND colleagues – contradicting their own purchased police. Be objective for once.

It’s preposterous, in the circumstances, to suggest that it’s his own fault that he was killed – justifying cold bloodied murder. He was shot twice in the head.

    • … By his upnd thug colleague!! They shot someone else yesterday again, that’s how violent upnd is. Leave PF out of this one please!!

  18. I strongly stand against the violence that occurred. There are innocent people who got shot in town
That could have been anyone, a neighbor, a brother, mother, father who went to make a living
Hearts were broken I get that and I sympathise. Let’s seek justice the right way
Let’s get done with the blame game and work toward peace and love for our country, our neighbors, black or white, PFor UPND just ONE ZAMBIA

  19. Days seems to be slowly catching up with Hon. Silvia Masebo. Wakhala Mutu okha-okha mambala. She thought the Chongwe Seat was her personal to holder. I shall always pay great tribute Mr. Mwakalombe for kicking this woman out of Chongwe constituency. Munagwira nchito boss.
