First Lady Esther Lungu on Wednesday officiated handed over the long awaited fire engines donated to the Esther Lungu Foundation by the Los Angeles-Lusaka City Sister Organization.

The hand over ceremony took place at the Lusaka Fire and Rescue Department at Lusaka Fire Station.

Speaking during the donation, Mrs Lungu urged the Lusaka City Council to establish the Lusaka-Los Angeles relationship office which will coordinate access to services and programs from the American city.

She also has appealed to the general public to begin to appreciate the work of fire fighters in the country.

Mrs Lungu said despite the risk and challenges fire fighters experience, their work is unappreciated.

And receiving the donation, Local Government Minister Charles Banda has urged officers from the fire department to make use of the knowledge obtained from their counterparts on income generation to enhance revenue collection.

Dr. Banda said the two fire engines and a truck for carrying the fire crew will go a long way in improving the capacity of the fire department in responding to fire happenings and other rescue operations.

And Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa says owing to the growing population in the city, demand for enhanced fire rescue has increased.

  1. These are not “donated firetrucks” they were acquired at great travel & lodging expense involving a 25 person delegation to USA.Add the shipping costs plus their “used” age.

    • @1.1 PF

The pictures shown in LA were of her tour of the actual fire department, not the junk yard where retired trucks are sent, where these ones came from……

    • Donations donations donation!

      I hate donations.

Unfortunately a begger is not a chooser.

Sorry, we are supposed to say, Thanks First Lady, we appreciate your timely gesture for we don’t know when these Zesco pole cutters and enemies of progress will restart their arson behaviour again.

    • Donated junk….total cost to the tax payers US $3 million….not worth it…..those pieces of junk are not even roadworthy

    • 3 trucks at $7million is Grand Theft by the 1st Lady and her team. $ 1.8 Million to go and view and $4.8 Million to AIRLIFT from USA to Zambia. and she can stand and claim to be a caring mother!
we could have built 2 hospitals for children instead of these outdated machinery. 1st Lady my foot!
A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS INDEED DANGEROUS.

    • These pfools should be ashamed! $3million trip for this scrap metal? After the fire tender scandal? And now the 51 houses? I say it’s time to kick them out and hold them accountable.

    • These are old vehicles that would not be allowed in the USA to be used by any Fire Department today. More money was wasted on a needless trip to go get these antiquated worthless trucks, than they’re worth. What a shame.

    • This is what happens when you have clueless people running the country. And you wonder why Zambia is in the shape it is today. Clueless Lungu and his wife should pay back the money they wasted on these pieces on junk. They can keep the trucks if they want, but they need to pay back the taxpayer money they wasted on the needless trip to America.

    • Dumping Ground and the spirit of begging all the time. It is a curse to beg when you have two able hands. Africans people like begging we should learn to work hard for our things. Watch those engines will be parked by this time next year. Where will they find servicing Parts?? We have no Auto Dealers to service them.

    • I use my own common sense unlike you UPND quacks who follow whatever rubbish your Under 5 vomits.
He’s no great leader just a brown turd thieving gay Masson.

    • Mr. Kudos that was my idea to take them to Lusaka museum. I didn’t think about the revenue they would generate as exhibits kikikikiki. Good one mate! Happy independence and May Jesus bless you.

    • Mr. Kudos, great idea. Then put a caption in front of them that says: “The money that was spent to go get these trucks from America was much more than the trucks were worth–thanks to clueless Lungu. These trucks are so old, Abraham Lincoln used them to put out a fire during the American civil war.”

  2. Vimbaya-mbaya…….

Even LT are embarrassed to show complete pictures …..

At a travell cost of more then $1 million.

    • BoSPakata even me I am Hambarsased at the statement “ONLY A TONGA can be President of UPND and SAKWIBA you Ha NOT TONGA!”

  3. At last something positive from Bonehead Mr. Kudos, acknowledging a waste of resources and that they actually belong in a museam! Can’t believe something positive from him. Rather strange tough, maybe a change of heart?

    • No change of heart from that clown kudos. People like these don’t have scopo. It’s because of i**ots like him and many more we are in this situation as a country. You can make a mistake once and can be forgiven but if you continue making the same mistake and yet you and your family are suffering than you are not supposed to be forgiven.

  4. She should just go park these in Chawama with her ka husband… the worst president in the world, Jona Meno Meno a waste of space on this earth… the chap is useless and very dull… like those bloody useless fire trust his useless wife brought …scrap metal

    • Kapola…pathetic indeed. They even hired ichinyau to dance around for these worthless vehicles. I wouldn’t pay K100 for these pieces of junk. What a shame.

  6. They really do belong in a museum just like the lady who brought them to Zambia and her thieving lawyer wanna be husband who stole from a widow, the chap is the worst president in the world…

  7. Hehehe……they were gotten from an American museum. The only thing I have appreciated about this govt are Lusaka township roads but also at a very great expense to the tax payer

  8. PLEASE APPRECIATE THE GREAT WORK FIRST LADY HAS DONE, SHE DESERVES RESPECT AND CONGRATULATIONS, REMEMBER SHE IS NOT A CIVIL SERVANT IF SHE WISHES SHE COULD JUST STAY HOME COOK FOR H.E ECL BUT SHE IS RESTLESS LOOKING FOR GREATER HOPES FOR SUFFERING ZAMBIANS

  9. Those things could not even drive from ports in dar or SA , they had to be airlifted , they are rotten and only for show…….

    • This is a way of starting frienship.
First they start by giving salaula then
      When friendship becomes strong
Then they will give brand new. You
Cant rush to give a diamond ring on
      Your first date.

  10. What do you expect if someone from where she came from go to plot one? We are still dancing to Dununa reverse. The husband warned us that he has no vision for our country Zambia.

    • HH came from a village and he is successful, even after selling our mines. Careful how you comment, while forgetting your leader is also from humble beginnings.

  11. To my follow Zambians who do not know the modern style of stealing in Zambia, there you have it. This whole scene is not and has never been about the fire engines. The people involved had their own benefit at heart. That is exactly how Zambians(politicians, civil servants, etc) are stealing today. For example some of the workshops being orginised by civil servants are just a way to make money. Now as Zambians we have come to accept these evils as being normal. God forbid. May the Lord God almighty please serve us from the hands PF. A lot of blood has been shade already at their hands. The poor economy is also quietly claiming innocent lives. Here is my prayer “Mwe Lesa please twalomba funyenipo ba Lungu na bantu babo. Ala taba weme. Father Jehovah God, only you have the power to crush the…

  12. …. Here is my prayer “Mwe Lesa please twalomba funyenipo ba Lungu na bantu babo. Ala taba weme. Father Jehovah God, only you have the power to crush the evil one and his children. God please look at how they have mocked your name for their only political benefits. This should not continue. Please bring a sudden end to the evil rulers. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.Amen.”

  13. “,,…And receiving the donation, Local Government Minister Charles Banda has urged officers from the fire department to make use of the knowledge obtained from their counterparts on income generation to enhance revenue collection.”

Knowing PF, the minister is simply telling us that we shall soon start paying fees for fire services. That is not what the donor intended is it?

  14. “First Lady Esther Lungu on Wednesday officiated handed over the ” Lusaka Times has become the watch Dog with this editing kikiki

  15. Really, this is what we got? Dumping old trucks? And the maintenance cost? Old GMCs? Let’s see how long these will be in service. We never learn…

  16. Thank you to First Lady for her female intuition to bring this timely help before election hustings begin. We all know UPND will be burning ho es, markets with a vengeance for our votes!

As women the Sisters of LA and First Lady understand the loss of a home for children, especially when unscrupulous grown ups go around burning homes deliberately.

  17. To make matters worse these trucks were airlifted from LA to Lusaka at an enormous cost to the tax payer. It beggars belief, even in bongo bongo land, the village id!ots have some shred of decency.
