President Lungu Congratulates Newly Elected Malawian President

Share

President Edgar Lungu has congratulated newly elected Malawian President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera. In his letter to his new counterpart, President Lungu says; “Your election is an affirmation of the trust and confidence that the people of Malawi have in your leadership qualities, which ushers in a wave of democratic change that the people of Malawi have been advocating for.”

According to a statement released to the media by State House, President Lungu added, “Zambia and Malawi share strong brotherly bonds of friendship based on mutual respect. I, therefore, wish to take this opportunity to reaffirm my country’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations that our two countries have continued to enjoy, for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.”

President Lungu looks forward to working closely with Dr Chakwera and wished him good health and prosperity for the people of the Republic of Malawi.

Last night, Malawi’s electoral commission has declared opposition alliance leader Lazarus Chakwera the winner of the country’s presidential election rerun.

The announcement late on Saturday came four days after Malawians returned to the polls almost five months after the constitutional court annulled the results of a May 2019 vote over irregularities.

Chakwera, 65, secured the required majority, with 58.57 percent of Tuesday’s vote, the electoral commission said, beating the incumbent Peter Mutharika. Chakwera won election to a five-year term as president of the nation of 18 million people.

Yes Your Excellency Mutarika just gave away his victory to Chakwera.
We had no grounds for you to go for a rerun in 2021 because you whipped that boy h² clean.
So you must redo the ka whipping in 2021, not a rerun. Whip u5 at the polls. Do it the first time right.

  4. Excellent message from our wise leader. We will continue to work with malawi as strategic partners. I have already sent my personal congratulatory message to that government too. Zambia had its pivotal moment in 2011 and Malawi has just had it’s own. We thank you and wish you all the best in your new role as head of state. Remember we are only a border away if you need help or counsel. Cheers

    • What help or counsel will you give Mr Chakwera? Mr Kaiser you have failed to help and counsel your own leader and now you want to help Malawi. This is hypocritical. Look at your own house. Start applying for asylum somewhere else. If you are thinking of South Africa, Seer 1 is there so think twice. Some of you ministers took ‘his’ things.

  5. J0nathan the Vote thief & King of electoral malpractices has spoken!
    J0na before commenting on proper Democrats, please show some shame /guts & tell us;
    – Who in your party if not you, sanctioned the Gass!ng of innocent Zedians?
    – Show some “Maracas”, Chak0lwa iwe’, & SACK that Kitalu Kilufya + when are you suing those that accused you & your Daughter of being Mukula kinpins. If I remember correctly wenze making noises against Zambian media houses, until a Western media house dared you to sue!
After you address such & stop your state sanctioned violence, can you then comment on people who embrace TRUE DEMOCRACY.
    Lastly P.F.KUYABEBELE!

  6. Congratulatory message is a weak and sign of anxiety in PF government. They know their days are slimming. Madilu system is eager to cast his vote next year and I’ve mobilized more youths to cast their votes too.

We are sending this corrupt PF government into abyss.

    PF must go!

  7. Our friends in Malawi are lucky.

I am sure God is sweeping away corrupt leaders in Africa one by one. Burundi, Lesotho, RSA, Sudan. Let us be patient. Our turn will come soon.

Anyway, Lungu should get ready to congratulate HH in 2021.

  10. Explain why Zambian youths went to the bush to protest – because of your repressive regime that deny youths to protest peacefully against many unfulfilled promises you made, pandemic corruption within PF government and culprits are not brought to book, huge loans gotten without parliament approval, lack of freedom of expression, detention of youths without trial, more than 50 Zambians died due to gassing, a crime no one is held to account not even PF officials who were implicated in this evil murder of Zambians. So, the writing is on the wall, Mr president you have failed the youths who vote and they voted your former colleague Peter Muthalika. Provide a peaceful voting environment for Zambian youths, they will choose who they want to lead them without intimidation and threats to their…

  12. UPND cadres like calling their PF counterparts as dull. This make me wonder who is dull the one who bases victory on the neighboring countries opposition leader as theirs or the one who is on the ground campaigning while the opposition ( one man tribal Tonga party) is in Lusaka just armchair criticizing. Zambia’s voting pattern needs to change dramatically for UPND to win. Last time I checked was Southern Province VS the rest! HH does not have a national appeal and strategy. Even their Lusaka province party mobilization officer is Tonga.

  13. kci

It took the whole GRZ , including ZP, ZAF, ZA, ZESCO and the whole treasury to win a very disputed election by a mere 100,000 votes, the population of mutendere with massive PF violnce and rigging to beat the mighty HH ………

That was on the heels of lungu spending billions on infrastructure.
He even had to pay ministers legally to campain for him……

Not sure what appeal you are looking at…..

In any free and fair election , there is no way in hell lungu can win…..

  14. PF should just find another candidate …I mean what message is Lazy Lungu going to use in 2021..the man has been an absentee President who is afraid of his own ministers imagine 5 more years with such a figurehead.

  15. Jonathan is shedding crocodile tears. He wanted Arthur Peter Mutharika to win but Malawians rejected him. Jonathan must learn some lessons from little Malawi. To overturn the fraudulent 2019 Election Malawians protested and shed blood. Fortunately for Malawi the Military and the Judiciary stood with the People to win this Re-run. Jonathan must think deep if he doesn’t want Civil Strife in Zambia in August 2021.The Judiciary, the Military and ECZ need to be restructured if Elections in 2021 are going to be peaceful, free, fair and credible. The writing is on the Wall and the choice is his.

  21. Democracy when properly conducted by enables a smooth and peaceful change of governance. What is most important is people who can understand issues well and make a right Decision or choice. On the other hand, there is need for competitors to respect and allow the choice of people to prevail, without using any wrong ways to secure positions . When people use wicked ways or ways that are not right before God, they are not leaders appointed by God. Those who are not submissive to God, but want to use God for their interests are enemies of God and His people. Democracy is a very risky kind of government, but when people involved are truthful, honest, selfless and God fearing indeed, it tends to goodness.

  22. ECL, don’t even try to file in your tuma nomination papers next year or you will be risking PF to go into an election without a candidate. I’ll be the first to challenge your illegal nomination in court! Don’t wait to be humiliated. See your friend now wants asylum in SA all because he did not conduct state affairs well! Why not leave with dignity?

  23. Chakwera should work hard because his election is euphoric. Remember we had a euphoric election in Zambia ushering in the PF in 2011, and not knowing that that was the beginning of our problems. In Zambia the introduction of PF into government ended up un rewinding all the gains the country had made like debt cancelation and other economic gains

The hour has come for you to go PF.

    PF must go.

  26. The guy (Lungu) has a double personality. He shows a pretentious personality when his actual self is as wicked as they come. He does it without any trace of shame. Even now he is trying all he can to rig elections. His wickedness is now catching up with him because even the most naive have known him for who he really is.

  31. @kci, only one party is allowed to campaign in Zambia. Even talking about issues you have to go in the bush!! Have you not noticed? Switch on your brain before you comment please. It really does help.

  32. Chakwera means Climb or rise and he rose. Chagwa mean to fall and he will fall next year. Lets advise the president properly that the writing is on the wall. These are not things to play with. The Political history of malawi and zambia are documented and whatever happens in zambia or malawi, shows the same in either country. VIVA MALAWI. VIVA ZAMBIA.

  34. PF shall win again in 2021 because there is no credible opposition party in Zambia. The majority of us cannot vote for a tribal party with a bitter leader who thinks he knows everything.

  35. There is a Nyanja saying which goes: “Lelo chili paine mwaba chilipaiwe”. I can hear Mutharika saying this to ECL. Will ECL listen and change his ways? ECL is arrogant amd believes he has captured the Judiciary, ZPS, ECZ and the Public Service in Zambia and what has befallen Mutharika in Malawi will not happen to him August 2021, in Zambia. ECL is taking a huge gamble! History doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes. The writing is on the wall for ECL.

  36. When time has come, nothing can stop the wind of change. Congrats Malawian for protecting your votes. No one will deliver change for a nation other than the nationals themselves.

  37. The Malawi election result gives many Zambians hope that we will also get rid of the most corrupt government Zambia has ever seen. This govt has made Rupiah Banda and FTJ regimes look like child play.

  38. Malawi’s re-run of a hotly disputed election was a dramatic reversal of fortune for the incumbent Peter Mutharika, whose victory was overturned by the constitutional court over fraud allegations. It is an honor forged in the furnace of Malawians’ desire and their demand for change. It also the first time in the region that a vote re-run has led to the defeat of an incumbent leader. The election was followed keenly beyond Malawi and is a symbol of hope for those who support democracy in Africa and around the world.

  39. Congrats to Malawian President Chakwera. However, presence of Nevers Mumba at the installation of Malawian President casts doubts on mental state of “Dr” Mumba who believes that Chakwera has opened gates for a Zambian Cleric to win the Republican Presidency. Zambians must note that (a) Rev. Ndabaningi Sithole was a Church leader who founded a ZANU militant party that fought a Rhodesian Govt; and (b) Jesse Jackson was a Baptist & prominent American civil rights crusader, But Revs. Chakwera, Sithole, & Jackson were never convicted for criminal offences. Nevers Mumba is a VIRUS that infccted a Church and MMD. How will he explain to Brenthurst Foundation and relate to a ruling Govt Party in in Malawi?

  40. Strange that Chagwa Lungu did not attend the swearing in ceremony for Chakwera, despite being an hour away. Was it because Nevers Mumba was invited as a personal guest of Chakwera ?

  41. Am surprised at how UPND cadres are trigger happy about Malawi election results. The dynamics are different as we the real Zambians have enough experience with elections. Malawians are just bringing back Kamuzu Banda’s Party, MCP. It is like bring back UNIP. Wait until the Pastor digs in and you will see the African in him. Malawians were just disillusioned economic quagmire and lack of development.Zambia is far developed than Nyasaland especially the northern part after Mzuzu. The Southern Central areas of Dedza, Dzalanyama, Mlanje are the worst and still ravaged by the memory of Frelimo vs RENAMO war effects. I remember the excitement that engulfed up and dows when Donald Trump won the elections in the US.They were so excited thinking they had also won elections back home. Wait for…
