Lessons from Bill 10 defeat by Fred M’membe

Share

The defeat of Bill 10 in Parliament last Thursday revealed the true characters of some of our rulers in the Patriotic Front and its government.

We heard all sorts of words, justifications, consolations and sayings in reactions to the Bill 10 defeat.

It’s very clear that anyone can deal with victory and only the mighty can bear defeat. It’s very clear that our colleagues in the Patriotic Front are opportunists, chancers who have not struggled much or have struggled very little in their lives.

We who have struggled for many years from very disadvantaged positions and have suffered many setbacks know very well that when defeat comes, it should be accepted as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.

The truth is, unless you realise that the situation is over, you cannot move forward. Any time you feel so pained by defeat, it is only because you insist on clinging to what doesn’t work.

There’s no need for our colleagues in the Patriotic Front to be so bitter about the Bill 10 defeat. Defeat isn’t bitter if you don’t swallow it – it’s only bitter if you swallow it. And it seems they have swallowed the Bill 10 defeat. That’s why they are endlessly and invariably spewing bitter words about Bill 10 defeat.

  1. Can you Mmèmbelician remember who you’ve been rubbing shoulders with?

There were definitely times when Mmembe was making sense. Not any more! His advice in this article is meaningless.

We can’t intertain lessons from a masquerad who uses abusive language on women unless he himself remembers who he’s been puffing with.

  2. It’s a sweet bitter lesson indeed for them. A reality check. We urge State Counsel John Sangwa and Kelvin Bwalya Fube and indeed other legal minds, to this race of constitutionalism. Now to take the relay baton from the MPs and stop the 3rd term by challenging the unlawful nomination of those whom our Constitution disqualifies from standing.

  3. What time does this faggot have to lead his failed communist party, if all he seems to do is write articles. This is a useless author and not a political leader. Him and hanthony habwalya are in same bracket. And for that reason , I will not give him the honour of issuing him with a substantive response

  4. This is coming from a failed person whose party died on arrival. If only he was up to date with his taxes we would be talking about something else today. The only lesson PF has learned from bill 10 is that they only need six more MPs to control two thirds of parliament. The opposition should realize that if the voting was a general election PF would have over achieved 50+1 and won. If the opposition is taking bill 10 as an indication of 2021, we will have a lot of cry babies next year.

  5. The problem with pf is the that they did extensive farming in bill 10. Am not sure why they spent so much time with chiefs and church leaders over the bill. It was a very costly venture with zero result. Imagine erecting a bill board when its only parliament voting. I see the same mistake in 2021. Political parties will preach about bill 10 which citizens do not even understand. Talking about bill 10 just increases the suspicion voters already have. Forget about the bill and concentrate on what you will do next term. Who advises our leaders kansi

  6. There is a reason why we need two thirds of parliament to pass a Bill which affects the constitution of Zambia. So this should not be confused with the number of votes required to become a president of Zambia. The UPND know this and will adopt appropriate strategies to win the presidential race. The opposition knew what was required to reject Bill 10 and I can assure you they also know what is required to win the 2021 presidential elections. Cool down, the opposition is now focused on having free and fair elections in 2021 and stopping rigging of elections.

  7. I doubt the dullards in PF (Real members not impostors) have took any sensible lessons here; the only lesson only they took from this defeat is that didn’t have more money available to bribe opposition and civil society. Its laughable for Membe to stand there and dish out moral advice as if he has forgiven Lazy Lungu and ZRA for getting rid of his Post Newspaper for not paying taxes. I mean you can not talk of struggle when you ran a company tax-free under your friend Michael.

  8. If the opposition know how to win and stop election rigging, it will only be foolishness to claim rigging if they happen to loose 2021 elections.

  9. Bill 10 defeat is concerning, and not for the reason that it failed, but for the fact that all PF MPs voted for it. Surely, not one member of parliament under the PF thought there was anything wrong with it? This isnt China where bills are passed by 99.9 percent of the vote.

  11. Come on Zambians. Get over it. Busy celebrating Bill 10 defeat while other nations are talking economic growth and welfare issues. Ghana has now commenced VW and Nissan auto assemblies, commercial oil industries and is creating thousands of jobs through transformation of it’s agricultural sector for global markets. And Zambians.. what exactly have we achieved in 2020?

” Come on Zambians. Get over it. Busy celebrating Bill 10 defeat while other nations are talking economic growth…”

When PF were spending all their time and money amist a decaying economy trying to sell bill 10 , why did you not say what you are saying now ?????

  13. The MMD suffered defeat on the constitution when the PF and the UPND walked out of parliament. Take it on the chin PF. If you remain stubborn like MMD, you will be packing soon. Meanwhile, it looks like TRIBALIST Siliya only joined PF because a putative Easterner became President. If Lungu loses, where will Siliya go? The other Banda, aka little RB, cannot win elections in this decade.
