Malanji confirms owning Helicopter, it’s not a crime to own one

Share

Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji has confirmed owning a Bell 430 Helicopter allegedly bought from South Africa.

Mr Malanji says the helicopter was bought using genuinely acquired wealth and not at the exorbitant 8 million dollars price as is being purported on social media.

The Kwacha PF Member of Parliament refused to state the actual cost of the rotorcraft saying it is not a government but a private property.

Mr Malanji has refused to be rated by a salary he draws from parliament saying he is a renowned businessman who came to politics with money.

In an interview with Journalists, Mr Malanji said it is not a crime to own a helicopter and has wondered why people are in the habit of accusing every politician of engaging in dubious activities.

The Bell 430 is an American twin-engine light-medium helicopter built by Bell Helicopter.

It is a stretched and more powerful development of the Bell 230, which, in turn, was based on the earlier Bell 222.

  2. A private businessman imported a used Boughatti Vyron and it was quickly whisked to the DEC for invetigation. This is bigger value. Will DEC investigate?

  4. I was on proflight from Ndola to Lusaka on 8th Jan with Hon Malanji he was dishing out man to airport workers, prior to that he was in Kitwe at a house dishing out money. This culture of dishing out money is bad, people get handouts and encourages laziness and is demeaning to the recipient and encourages corruption and lack of accountability. He bought a helicopter? not even the queen has one! let him account for money, hoe much is his salary? celebrities own jets in America and other countries because they work for their money, not stealing! PF is flouting their money on social media, where in the world ? cadres are posing with their PF money on social media.

  6. A simple google search on the Bell 430 helicopter will reveal the prices:
    Brand new:$ 8 million
    Used (1996 model- present):$ 5.9 million – $ 6.2 million .
While the majority of Zambians live on less than $ 1 a day, a PF government minister can afford a private helicopter.
A wealthy man like HH who has been in business for decades does not even own one.
Where is this money coming from suddenly .

  11. What is the purpose of buying this Helicopter at such an expense in foreign Currency? So BOZ approved the remittance of ZK30 million to buy a Helicopter when there is no foreign Currency to import medicines,Covid-19 Vaccines and other essentials? Governor Mvunga of BOZ needs to explain why such remittance was approved. There are all these stashes of Money being dished out for Campaign purposes. Is BOZ printing all this Money? Is the Governor not afraid that the growth in Money Supply will fuel inflation? At this rate of Money Supply growth prices of Goods and Services will skyrocket by Election Time on August 12, 2021. These sharp price increases will make the Ruling Party unpopular. Is the ECL Govt not concerned about “twusaka twandalama ” being dished out all over the Place?

  13. Helicopter bought, great. When are you sorting out the huge unemployment issue in Kwacha constituency, we know you as an MP who is very passionate about your constituency with good and frequent donations but donations don’t help, the unemployment issue is a huge huge problem. Help us sorting out this issue, I am not even sure if you have an idea of how many people are unemployed in your constituency. It is the biggest problem.

  14. Yes it’s not a crime to own a Helicopter but the source of money could be criminal. If the Minister used Money Laundering then it’s a crime. For a Minister working for GRZ to afford buying a helicopter from a Govt Salary is not possible. So the Minister should disclose source of funding and explain the use of the Helicopter as we approach the Crucial August 12, 2021. Is the Helicopter for Election Campaign purposes or business. People are already speculating that the Helicopter will be used to ferry pre-marked Ballot Papers for rigging the 2021 Elections. Minister Malanji owes the Nation an explanation for this curious acquisition.

  15. If PF suddenly has a large number of successful business men and women who are busy donating cash, buying buses and helicopters, how come they have failed to manage the economy? How do these successful business men feel knowing they manage a government that they have run into bankruptcy and now cant pay its debts? How do these successful business men feel they represent constituents who they have dragged into poverty and who live on less than a dollar a day?

  16. It is wrong to think that any one with wealth has stolen, what you should do is either to ask how he managed to get that wealth those who are sincere they tell you how they achieved that goal and how they got what they have .I don’t see anything wrong with that because every wealth has some history with it just accusing someone is not good now as someone in political limelight journalists can help by giving him an interview for all concerned Zambians to know how he got where he is.

  17. Ba Malanji chipuba, wrong period to buy that coffin. He will die in it next week. Unless he just bought for this show-off.
That looks like a 2010 chopper worth $2 million.
Money competition in PF is has made Edgar lose august erections.

You are just pathetic. Just own up and agree that your party and boss are thieves Their wealth has ballooned to unprecedented level.

You pricks can’t take criticism. You lot have messed up the economy, people’s livelihood have been devastated. Can you for once have an adult conversation so we can debate what good have PF done other than enriching and looting.

  20. Audit trail- What has Mr Malanji got to his name as a declaration of his personal assets before he became minister? The mantra of business man is hoggish, Zambians know who are successful business men such as Enock Kavindele, Sardanis, Trade Kings proprietor etc. Go on KZ list Joseph Malanji’s assets?

  21. THIS CHAP IF HE HAS MADE HONEST MONEY HE DESREVES IT AND TO SPEND IT HOW HE WISHES
HOWEVER THE ODD PERSON MAY TAKE 20 TO 35 YEARS TO ACCUMULATE THIS SORT OF MONEY
MOST NEVER EVEN GETTING CLOSE …….. BUT SINCE PF HAS BEEN IN POWER MOST MP’S AND MINISTERS HAVE REACHED THOSE HEIGHTS
IN 5 TO 10 YEARS THIS IS THE PUZZLE … HOW ?????????????????????????????????

  22. We need a mindset shift, someone showing what they are worthy should also encourage people to work had be Entrepreneurs etc. If this Helicopter was bought by some foreign celebrity then it is genuine money but for a Zambian it can only be crime?? What a disgusting narrative??? People let us encourage each other to work hard.
While we do not condone theft by anyone. We must also desist from putting everyone with money in the same basket of thieves. If you have evidence of theft report it. You cannot compare HHS wealth or lifestyle to anyone else because their circumstances are different.

  23. The kid is rich, he is rich, hot his own chopper!
Next it’s me. Don’t say its Government money.
Now stop all your phd yada yada.

  24. Since he is claiming to have bought the helicopter from his own resources let him volunteer to a lifestyle audit. Let us see if he will not sheet in his pants Let opposition appoint lifestyle auditors not corrupt PF.

  27. The problem in Zambia is no matter how poor someone was before they got into a major government position, when they become very rich, people merely say, “Kabili ni ba minister” – no critical assessment or questions, just ignorant acceptance. Even if they were rich before, there still remain questions around fair play or use of position for advantage. We are in an era of primitive politics introduced by the PF, with money being flashed around by those with links to govt. in an environment of struggle for many. In the midst of it all, when a minister suddenly purchases a helicopter, it is legitimate to ask questions. Nothing wrong with asking.

HI NEGRO KIKIKI JOIN THE QUEUE THERE IS A LONG LINE FOR THIS KZ CHAP EVEN WOMEN ARE IN LINE
    AND I’M FIRST TY SIR

  30. What a great man this minister is, all you fools are just jealous. He is an amazing man, being able to combine his intensely busy job as minister whilst running business during economic downturn, drought, global warming and a pandemic, so well, that he made enough profit to invest in a helicopter. He should become our President after ECLs next term !

  31. @Milanji has been in business when HH was still in dippers and HH’s wealth is from privatization. You have managed to search for the Helicopter neglected to research on Milanji. He was already rich even before he joined politics. The problem with Zambians is inferiority complex. Nigerians and South Africans own planes. If Dangote was a Zambians ACC will be literally be living in his house.

  32. Ba KZ Sir, Please understand that Joe Malanji is NOT a private person. He is a politician. He is a public person of public interest, He is a public servant. He chose to become a public person knowing that everything he does will be subject to public scrutiny and this how it should be. He handles public resources and has fiduciary responsibility meaning that he should behave in such a manner as not to attract suspicion. He signed a declaration of assets and liabilities when he became a public servant.
Is the Hon Joe Malanji richer than Donald John Trump who is being investigated by the State of New York, Congress and the FBI on his business dealings and Tax Returns.
This case is very simple. In a transparent country Mr Malanji’s Tax returns would show that he is a rich man to afford…

  33. diggers REPORTING DEC INVESTIGATING HELICOPTER THAT COST 30 MILLION KWACHA
CAN NO ONE GET THE FIGURE RIGHT ??

  34. Hmm does anybody know anything on this thread? On the price it’s easy to find that the chopper should be around $1.5m, as it ceased production in 2010 (therefore it is second hand, and about 10 years old if you can count by 10). On the other hand “but you know, that one is rich” blanket excuses, can we be told what is his business, and where can we view the company returns? A least what is his company name and number though which he has become “so rich”? Those are two simple and valid questions. Not kupanga chongo monga ku tarven. Thanks for the answers. In advance

  35. Don’t question why he bought the the chopper but find out what business he does and that business can afford him the chopper. Mr Malanji is a very well known and established businessman and just like many other Zambians who own airplanes, can’t he own one too? Being a minister does not mean you’ve to abandon your businesses at all but use the priverage to advance it further.
