Energy Minister Accuse Local Fuel Transporters of creating the crisis by Charging Exorbitant Prices

Share

Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa has said that local fuel transporters have been charging exorbitant prices that is why fuel importers have been shunning them.

Reacting to accusations by fuel transporters that their protest which had enabled fuel shortage in some of past of the country had been caused by Energy Minister Mr. Nkhuwa who had not failed to actualise the promises he had made for some time now, Mr Nkhuwa said that the exorbitant prices have been worrisome to Government which needs to be addressed.

Mr. Nkhuwa said that he has been engaging the Fuel Transporters Association of Zambia to ensure that the prices can be reduced, adding that many fuel importers have been concerned about the prices which have resulted in a reduction of engaging the locals.

Mr. Nkhuwa says has been supportive of the transporter’s body to improve their welfare and indicated that the transporters need to be appreciative of what he has been fighting for them.

“I think people need to know that I have been supporting these fuel transporters and what they are doing is not right. As Government, we are not against them. I have fought for the 50 percent to ensure that they are involved in fuel transportation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Transportation Association of Zambia national spokesperson Benson Tembo says the fuel transporters are not involved in the shortage.

This doesn’t sound right. Let me remind the Minister that this is their country; and do you need to fight? Really Minister? The minister doesn’t need to fight. In the absence of policy, claims like this come up. Another problem is that we have a sick opposition. These are issues.
I thought this fuel mess was handled along time ago. Damn it, it keeps popping up every election period. Policy in the Energy sector in Zambia leaves much to be desired.
You kids have deoxygenated INDENI and now loading our roads with trucks from across borders. This is cleary a failed policy on energy.

  7. Importers are in business, not charity. If the foreign companies charge better rates, why should they engage expensive local transporters? Are you saying foreign companies don’t buy spares? Let the locals charge competitive rates and they will have more than the 50% share they are crying for

  8. FUEL SHORTAGE NOW IN MOST TOWNS AND ITS NOT THE TRANSPORTERS

  9. @Shushushu
WELL STATED AND TO THE POINT
LOCAL TRANSPORT CHARGES ARE HIGH COMPARED WITH ZIMBABWE ANS SOUTH AFRICAN ONES
SO IF THE LOCALS CAN MATCH THOSE RATES THEY CASN HAVE IT
THIS IS A MATTER OF GOOD ECONOMICS AND NOT A MATTER OF PATRIOTISM

  10. Zambians have a tendency of
Asking high rates in any work. They
Always cry foul in the end of not
    Having any work.They should look
At rates offered to their neighbours and compare them.

  11. This is why I did not laud a Presidential Empowerment on fuel tankers. Every election year this fuel mess will keep haunting us in a more blackmail fashion.
See Government now acting so desperately to clean up the mess.
    Guideline:
You don’t operate such an important sector in politically driven fashion government in government out. We need a national lasting solution to this mess.
Let’s see how this plays out. <0

  12. This man is telling lies when he was with the protestors he never said anything like that instead he said he will work out something ….this is what happens when you make school leavers with G12 certificates in such high profile ministries.

  13. And there it is, the Pathetic Failures have total failed us again. They have no capacity to resolve a local problem for the good of Zambians. These chaps are a bunch of clueless losers who failed to manage their Grade 12 / Form 5 studies. The majority are thugs and deplorables. Zambia deserves better, much better than this nonsense

  14. Even ECL doesnt have confidence in this Minister, otherwise, why on earth will he send another Minister to find out what was going on with the fuel transporters?
The fact that he is still a Minister and having the guts to give lame excuses is just another incompetence with current GRZ, who is to blame?
Blame the Master, his master !!!

  15. @GENERAL KANENE
SLOWLY BUT SURELY WE SEEM TO BE ON THE SAME PLAYING FIELD
UNFORTUNATELY THE MASTER DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY
HIS MANAGEMENT SKILLS ARE VERY LACKING CONSIDERING THE TYPE OF POLITICS WE PRACTICE HERE

  16. @Shushushu,
Good point, and in a normal free and competitive business environment that is what you would expect. You dont need the president to intervevene.
Unfortunately, those fighting for the 50% cut are the “big boys” who must later pay their dues to fund campaigns. Remember August 12 is getting closer !!! The big boys are under pressure, and the protests are just signal to ECL, saying it was high time they got their highly priced cuts, and ECL is just doing that.

  17. They have been paid by that desperate f00l hh to create this fayke shortage. Let them know that we wont lower ourselves to their standards. If they don’t want to transport others can fill that vacanct space. We have a lot of foreign and other Zambian businesses dying to take over from them. Its only them who will lose out while hh is busy eating and sleeping with nalumango

  19. You should try your best not to take anything trolls say seriously. No matter how poorly they behave, remember these people spend countless unproductive hours trying to make people mad. They’re not worth your time of the day.

  20. All the clutter on his table….gosh…looks like a pawn shop display…..tell the minister to clean his Table…get rid of all the irrelevant items and create proper working space….

  21. The upnd gay boys have realised they are losing. So now they have changed their song from pf is losing to now ” pf cannot win a fair election”. Hahahah can you imagine. These guys are dull because they keep doing the same thing by fielding a world record loser hh and expecting different outcome. This is how tribalism works. You are forced to make f00lish decisions all in the name of a f00lish tribal remark like only a Tonga can rule upnd.

  23. Can someone shed light on were INDENI is in all this? I thought INDENI is supposed to refine the crude our transporters transport it around the nation. What is this transportation from Far and other ports. How do foreign transporters come to participate in transporting our fuel? This is equivalent to mines contracting outsiders leaving local contractors. It also appears there is more finished fuel being imported than that is coming out of INDENI. I thought INDENI was made to curb all this transportation nonsense!

  24. Anonymous – These are dull chaps he even has a paper puncher on his desk …he doesn’t do anything but just watch por no on his iPad, I mean what is the desktop doing there…this is Kakistocracy govt of dullards…..this man couldn’t even obtain a G12 certificate…really laughable.
