ACC are telling lies, I don’t own 15 properties-Amos Chanda

General News ACC are telling lies, I don't own 15 properties-Amos Chanda

Former State House Press Aide, Amos Chanda has refuted reports by the Anti-corruption Commission that he was warned and cautioned in connection with being in possession of fifteen (15) properties reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.

In a statement released to the media, Mr. Chanda said that he does not have the 15 properties they have lied about and challenged ACC to name these Properties title by title, location by location, and physical addresses.

Mr. Chanda further revealed that when he got to ACC offices, he was presented with a list of over 30 properties and mining licenses that they alleged belonged to him, but chose to exercise his right to remain silent because, of all the properties, he could only recognize four title deeds in his name, two of which are developed and the others are just bare land acquired from the ministry of lands and various councils.

Below is the full statement

I have read with utter shock that the ACC spokesperson Queen Chibwe has continued with a pattern of obnoxious lies since the commission’s illegal raids on me on October 27, 2021.

I can confirm that today, the ACC summoned me and presented me with a list of over 30 properties and mining licenses that they alleged belonged to me.

I exercised my right to remain silent because of all those properties I could only recognize four title deeds in my name, two of which are developed and the others are just bare land acquired from the ministry of lands and various councils.

The interrogators assured me that they took note of my position and that no statement would be issued over the matter until they verify ownership.

During this interview, the ACC also “donated” three properties to me located in Roma Park, Lusaka. They told me that I owned the double-storey buildings in Roma Park and they wanted to know the value. I told them I don’t know the value of the properties I did not own,  so they can ask the owners.

I neither have the 15 properties they have lied about and so I challenge them to name these Properties title by title, location by location, and physical addresses.

It is a shame that a state institution would have no shame to lie. I have always said ACC must present their case before a competent court but it appears they enjoy malicious attacks on my integrity.

Properties have addresses such as road name, title number and towns where they are located. Please name these items and present the matter before a judge so we can prove our innocence.

The commission also asked how I afford school fees for my two children who at Baobab College and the one who completed in Grade 12 at St Mary’s last year.

They also asked what my salary was at Zambia Daily Mail, London Mission, and State House. They asked me about 25 cows at the farm, 43 goats, and 50 cows in Namwaala.

This is the summary of the proceeding of today, not the lies Queen is telling. They asked me about bank loans and relationships with at least six people I have neither met nor have knowledge of whatsoever.

I will seek legal advice about this pattern of lies.

  3. I would have been impressed by the ACC if even during ECL’s time they had made these arrests. And if someone had stopped them, they should have come out to inform us about it. Acting like this past or present proves they are not professionals. All they want is to have a job. How they do it doesn’t matter.

  4. I honestly doubt the ACC capacity to investigate and successfully prove a wrong doing. They are not reliable and whatever they say is as good as hearsay.

  6. We know these criminals. They conceal their ill-gotten wealth into other people’s names or other institution’s names so that they are not easily traced. No place to hide. If you think you covered your tracks, be warned, you will soon be smoked out. No secrets under the sun

  9. While this is going ahead (commendably), let’s also expedite the implementation of e-governance. When we can capture as much of our activities as possible especially to do with wealth creation in the country, we will be able to very easily pin-point these sorts of things. Then people like Amos will write shorter things to defend themselves if at all.

  10. The ACC must be arrested for real. The way they are exaggerating on Lusambo is way too much. We all know the chap is poor thug, he just a loud destitute.
Lusambo can’t even afford to care for his other wife Mercy and children.
    Please arrest ACC team.

  13. So over to you ACC, Amos wants you to name the 15 properties that you say he owns, title by title, location and physical address.
It’s a fair challenge, since ACC has already chosen to go public on the matter. We want to know.

  14. @Saulosi, do not mind that stupid Tonga called Moono. He thinks using his bums. His small brain tells him that all who were under PF were thieves. That is what a stupid Tongas think under this regime.

  15. @Ganizani #14. Let me help you understand the context. The first being that Lungu is Easterner, they joke with Bembas. Bembas would not mind much Lungu saying this but if it is said by HH you can bet all hell would break lose. Second context is that 7 out of 10 peaple in Zambia are Bembas, considering other smaller tribes that are classified in this Bemba group. Taking this assumption, percentage wise, all tribes are equally thieves. This is a classic example of when you point 1 fingure at someone, 3 fingers are pointing back at you. Let him/her who has not stolen, bribed or corrupted anyone cast the first stone. The law should apply equally on everything/one.

  16. 7 out of 10 being Bemba? I don’t think so. I say so because most Lovales that went to work on the mines in Chingola for example, spoke and are fluent in Bemba but are not Bemba. Similarly Kaondes in Solwezi communicate with strangers in Bemba than the local Kaonde. This is not unique to Zambia as even in Johannesburg, South Africa, it’s not uncommon for someone to speak to you in Zulu than the local Tswana. So, Bemba is widely spoken as a language of communication than belonging. My take.

  17. So you don’t own 15 properties. Since you don’t own up to the true number, I’m sure the number is higher. Tell me, how does a lowly press aid get so many properties? Let’s just wait what ACC come up with. The cell next to Bowman Lusambo is still empty…….

  18. Wonder how LT allows rude tribal comments from @10Saulosi and @ 18 John? Clique of thieves been stealing from Zambians since 1964.

  19. Simple, sue the !d!0+$.
That’s what happens when ACC which is under h² dirty armpits is extremely empty and under pressure from h².

  20. My challenge is that if those 15 property have no owner, please I claim them, they are mine. Arrest me. I will not refuse. I will not refuse.

  21. Amos Chanda should turn to former president Edgar Lungu to defend him or you will be sacrificed on the alter. Remember how you demeaned Chishimba Kambwili – let the music play

  22. @Ben #21. If you understood what I wrote you wouldn’t ask that question. Assuming you honestly didn’t understand, the answer is, a BIG NO. I’m not legitimizing theft. Simply saying there are many thieves who need to be investigated both in current and all former ruling parties. Some of the people here shouting to crusify others are also not innocent after all. Hope you get my point.

  23. Waiting for a day when the crime of “possessing property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime” will be challenged in court or indeed parliament. This is a bad law. 3 things it does:
    1. Criminalizes hard work. Agree or not, not everyone in government is lazy and cannot own property and be rich. Current government is a good example.
    2. Gives the government too much power over its citizens and is an infringement of the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Look at it this way if you are an innocent hard working Zambian with property acquired through hard work and sacrifice while your peers were partying, the government can still pick you and lock you up for “Having property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime. At this point the burden of proof shifts from…

  26. @The Vulture #24, I was talking based on the context quoted – 7/10 in general not necessarily that it’s a true reflection of the Bemba proportion which equally is not a true reflection on Bemba thieves. Many Bembas have big mouths which gets them in more trouble than other tribes even when they may be innocent. Because of that, one would be forgiven when they literally believe the 7/10 thieves are Bembas. Just like there have been more Eastern side Presidents in Zambia but, without looking at history, and based on social media comments, one would think there have been more Bemba Presidents to date.

  27. How about plunderers in the privatisation of major mines and all parastatal companies in Zambia in the 1990s? This is what destroyed our country. This issue has never been dealt with adequately. This past plundering of national resources is still alive speaking to us. As long as this issue has not been dealt with adequately, our economy is still built on foundation of sand.
