Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Information and Publicity Raphael Nakacinda has declined an invitation by the ECZ to have a meeting with him over the allegations of electoral malpractice he made last week.
Hon Nakacinda has accused the ECZ of being more like a branch for the UPND.
He castigated the commission for giving themselves the power to interpret the Constitution during the Kwacha and Kabushi Constituencies by-elections.
Hon Nakacinda said this in Lusaka today when he addressed the media.
“I want to state that we are going to write to ECZ to clearly state that I am not going to attend that meeting because we find first of all even the correspondence itself adding to the misconduct of the ECZ,” he said.
“The ECZ in the recent past, beginning with Kabushi, Kwacha by-elections where they took upon themselves and donated to themselves the powers they do not have to interpret the constitution. And they were found wanting by the constitutional court.”
He added that both ECZ and UPND held the same position over the two constituencies until the court found them wanting. Hon Nakacinda said sitting with the ECZ is the same as sitting with UPND’s officials.
He was supposed to meet the Commission today.
“They further went ahead at a point where the state stayed matters to proceed to disregard the stay in the last by-elections. we have raised issues that concern them. How can I then be expected to meet them to discuss matters that concern them and the ruling party? When the matters were taken to the constitutional court, in terms of the misconduct of the ECZ, the ruling party held the same view that the ECZ held until the court found them wanting. Clearly, the ECZ of today is conducting itself as a branch of UPND,” he said.
“So to sit with ECZ is as good as sitting with Imenda or indeed sitting with any official of UPND to discuss their misconduct. And I think I will not want to dignify that letter and legitimize their misconduct. I am not going to attend.”
Why summon him to ECZ? Sue his pants off at a court of law. What’s wrong with that? Mwina aziba mwamene enze kucitila kudala.
ECZ, simple, respect is earned
On this one I agree with Binoculars if indeed ECZ has to have credibility from now onwards it needs a clear clean up and we want to see the British high commissioner and the American ambassador comment on the recent happening s as they used to do when PF was in power.where are the civil societies? Human rights activists the likes of Pilato and Laura Mvula our Journalists?
Yes just like it used to be a branch of PF in the previous government.
During the time pf was in government i never witnessed ECZ rejecting nomination papers belonging to any upnd candidate, it’s under hichilemas administration at such is happening! Therefore it’s fooli.sh to compare the two, the current government is full of shameless dictators. The word wrong doesn’t exist.
ECZ jusst follows and deligently implements the ECZ Act. Its a pity that nakachinda was only nominated three m?nths before the dîsolution of parliament and thérefrehe never partcipated and he doesnt knôw who formulated the ECZ Act. He doesnt know ts cntent. He doent knw who gäve the ECZ act to Ecz. In his ignrance , marred with his undefined level f biterness, he thinks the act was frmuated and given to ECZ by upnd or by HH. Plz ask ECL, he will help u to udersand that te act was written in a very simple language to avoid unnecessary calls for interretation whie in ûse and that it facilitaed by pf ad signed by ECL.
@ Angoni don’t expect America, Britain and EU to condemn upnd and it’s leadership because someone is been used as their puppet to rob is nation of it’s mineral resources, In fact i regard Americans as criminals,i have no kind words for them. they are same who will support upnd 2026 in order for them to continue stealing our mineral resources. Can anyone explain as to why mining firms are on tax holiday!

It’s extremely saddening Zambia deserves better.
My call to all Zambians is that we shouldn’t allow the crude contest between the UPND and PF to outdo each other you ruin our institutions. Although the conduct of the ECZ is questionable, it’s not correct for Nakachinda to attack it the manner that he’s doing. It’s very unfortunate that the PF that’s just come out of govt to behave in such a manner. The UPND had issues with Dan Kalale, Priscilla Isaacs, Irene Mambilima, Esau Chulu and Kryticles Nshindano, the PF is doing the same. Once these institutions lose their credibility because we’ve allowed it then there’ll be chaos. The UPND and the PF will pass and die but these institutions will remain. So it’s our duty to defend them irrespective of the office bearers

Nacacinda is right..since when has the ECZ to summon one to meet them. It seems ECZ is now more powerful than the court. ECZ used to respected around Africa but now its a sham. Very embarrassing. Bring back Esau chulu to salvage the little credibility that has remain. When I hear ECZ ,upnd comes into picture
