Standards Agency seizes expired beer in Kitwe

Share

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has called on members of the public to avoid consuming unregulated beverages to safeguard their health.

ZCSA head of communications, Brian Hatyoka, said members of the public should exercise caution and avoid consuming unregulated beer.

Mr. Hatyooka said this in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka following the seizure of 126 bottles of expired clear beer valued at K2, 100 from Leo’s Pub and Grill in Kitwe on Wednesday after a tip off from members of the public.

He said the beer in question was being sold contrary to the law on clear beer specification.

Mr. Hatyoka said the spirits expired on June 29, 2023 but was still being sold to unsuspecting members of the public contrary to the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017.

The Agency has since warned liquor stores and entities stocking beer against supplying products that may put the health and safety of consumers at risk.

Mr. Hatyoka commended members of the public in Kitwe that alerted the Agency on the expired beer.

The Agency hosted a roadshow at Chisokone market in Kitwe on Wednesday to sensitize members of the public on the dangers of used undergarments and unregulated potable spirits.

  1. Please withdraw their liquor license and shut down the premises. Take them through a program of adherence and draw up a program with them before reopening.

    • Independent I had not noticed that freak was missing. What are the chances? He has been cornered. He knows he will be tracked down through his IP address if he posts anything on this website. I work in IT and will volunteer to track him down for free. Nkani yalula

  3. After a tip off from the public? There are so many of these redundant organization that do nothing. What does ZABS do?

  4. I’m sure there are many at the standards agency who are more than willing to sacrifice themselves to make sure the beer is indeed expired by carrying out the all important taste test.

  5. Question, what type(s) of processes do they use to conduct expired beverages and what are the health risks?

Good wines are said to be the old wines….. uhummmm just wondering.

A lost man commented on one of my posts, claiming to be my ex. I want to find that person, hence, I have not lived in Zambia for many decades. Otherwise, if he has been paid to slader my name, I will find means to find him. My guess it is my nephew M’Binje Jr. I paid for his IT Diploma & now he uses it to secretly insult me.

    • They mention only beer but on that picture I can see spirits too. You are right that those get better with age so they cannot expire. I suspect Hatyoka took them home. Nkombo should have been on the job

  6. For beer, it is ZABS; for Kachasu, it is City Councils with Garry Lukombo in charge even without the public health inspector present.
