Vice President Nalumango gifts New Year babies, raises concern over increased cholera cases

Share

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has gifted 14 New Year babies at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and Chipata First Level Hospital with baby hampers.

The Vice President commended health workers for ensuring healthy and successful deliveries and advised the mothers to look after their babies well as they are a gift from God.

And Mrs Nalumango also noted with concern, the increasing cholera cases in the country.

She said the government will put up 58 water tanks in Kanyama Township, which is one of the hot spots in Lusaka and other identified areas, to improve access to clean water.

The Vice President appealed to members of the public to visit nearby health facilities in good time, should they suspect any symptoms in order to contain the disease.

“Patients who go to the hospital on time recover quickly, while most of those who delay are brought in dead, which is unfortunate because cholera deaths are avoidable,” she said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Sylvia Masebo assured that cholera drugs are readily available at cholera treatment centers, stating that patients have high chances to recover when they visit the health facilities on time.

Ms Masebo also commended the government for their efforts in improving water supply and sanitation in hotspot areas.

She emphasised the need for residents to work with government to ensure that garbage is collected and disposed of at designated areas in order to avoid water contamination.

Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital Medical Superintendent, Charles Mutemba said the hospital has 80 cholera patients currently on admission, of which 8 are pregnant women and 15 are children.

  1. Where do Presidents and Vice Presidents and politicians get their budget for such hampers from? As a citizen I just want to know because if they are using my tax money I am entitled to direct who should receive these gifts. If its UPND money I will shut up

    • @Hybrid Hyena: Apparently, she was rich before she became VP. Do not ask me how. I say this because at one of his first press conferences as president, HH, speaking from experience, lamented the lack of ventilation in the nation’s prisons. He stated that he or the vice president could donate the tools to cut ventilation windows in the walls of prisons. Obviously he must have known that she was a woman of means. The gifts she gave came from her own money. These ones do not toy with government money, of which there is barely any at all anyway. Remember, the IMF is watching each penny coming into Zambia. They are confiscating everything in excess of the tiny amount allowed for government operations, and paying the US $33billion Satan/Lungu borrowed and looted

    • You really Hyena. So embarrassing to have citizens who think so shallow.
Why do you have departments of public relations. And people study that for career?
You get most donations from donors. Companies.
Let me stop before imbwaa bucks, so depressing.

    • You want to invent what does nt exist all in defence of Upnd?
Civil service does not have a department of public relations. Show us one and it’s budget

  2. DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT THEY USED TO SAY ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT REGARDING CHOLERA WHEN THEY WERE IN THE OPPOSITION?
NOW THAT THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT I GUESS THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN.
IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT JUST BEFORE OUR 60th INDEPENDENCE DAY, WE STILL HAVE SANITATION ISSUES.
NO WONDER PEOPLE SAY THEY ARE ALL THE SAME!

    • @ZAMBIA FIRST: Blame your relative Titus Chabala Kafupi, the skin-bleaching Congolese pygmy who stole and operated under the identity of Frederick Chiluba. He took the assets of city and town councils, and shared them among his relative and tribesmen. This deprived the councils of their source of revenue. As the result, the councils became unable to deliver services or pay the salaries of its employees. Before that, the buffoon of a mayor, Simon Chushi Mwewa, mismanaged the infrastructure of Lusaka… When you add these things together, the cause of this problem becomes clear. It is the fault of foo1s you voted for. Look in the mirror and you will find the one who caused the problem

    • To make it even worse. the President HH is voted in and donates boreholes in each ward of Lusaka knowing very well that Lusaka underground water is heavily contaminated with feacal matter. And then you have Garry and Chitangala who are not able to collect gabbage . As that is not enough , you have Nzovu who only know about climate change theories and forgets to deak with local environment challenges, He would rather be in Saudi Arabia or Sweden listening to how European countries are polluting their countries than dealing with the dirty environment of Kanyama, Mandevu , Bauleni , chawama etc,
