President Hichilema expected in Chinsali

President Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow expected in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province where he will grace the 2026 National Labour Day commemoration.

Muchinga Province Minister, Njavwa Simutowe, confirmed the development during a press briefing held at the provincial administration today in Chinsali.

Mr Simutowe said the President will be accompanied to Chinsali by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, other Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.

“As Provincial Administration in Muchinga Province, we express profound gratitude to the Republican President for the rare privilege and honour to host this important national event,” he said.

Mr Simutowe highlighted that President Hichilema’s decision to celebrate the Labour Day celebrations in Chinsali underscores his commitment to decentralising national functions and bringing governance closer to the people.

Mr Simutowe added that besides gracing the National Labour Day, the Head of State is expected to commission a 1 x 4 classroom block at Lubwa Primary School, which was built with his personal resources.

He explained that the school was built in honour of Zambia’s First Republican President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, who was born in the area and taught at the same school.

The Provincial Minister added that while in Chinsali the President is also expected to engage with traditional leaders and trade unions.

Mr Simutowe has since called on Chinsali residents, civil servants, unions, political parties, the business community and civil society organisations to turn up in numbers and be part of the Labour Day commemoration.

“I would like to assure His Excellency the President and all invited guests that we are fully prepared and ready to commemorate the National Labour Day,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Labour and Social Security Minister, Brenda Tambatamba, has disclosed that the government is undertaking the pension’s reforms to bring about a better future and secure future for retirees and prevent potential vulnerability due to policy gaps.

Ms Tambatamba said occupational pension houses are being reformed and activated to harmonise with the primary pensions in line with this year’s Labour Day theme, “Securing Zambia’s Future of Work: Protecting Jobs, Skills and Pensions for Decent Work for All”.

“This is a great milestone for the United Party for National Development (UPND), the President has been passionate about reforming the pension system and for the betterment of workers.

Ms Tambatamba further stated that the government is implementing a number of transformative policies, which include the decentralisation of national events such as Women’s Day and Youth Day.
