The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has reiterated the importance of protecting whistleblowers as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and integrity in public and private institutions.
Speaking during the commemoration of World Whistleblower Day in Lusaka, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa called on public officers, political actors and institutions to uphold high ethical standards during the electoral process.
Mr Kangwa said elections are a cornerstone of democracy and must be conducted in a manner that promotes peace, fairness, transparency and public confidence.
He urged stakeholders to remain committed to honesty, fairness and respect for the rule of law throughout the electoral period.
Meanwhile, ACC Board Vice Chairperson Kaumbu Mwendela encouraged members of the public to continue using the commission’s anonymous online platform to report suspected cases of corruption.
ACC Director of Corruption Prevention Glenda Mungalaba said the protection of whistleblowers is critical in promoting accountability, transparency and integrity across institutions.
Speaking at the same event, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Representative James Wakiaga called for continued efforts to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks, improve responsiveness and enhance public participation in the fight against corruption.
The remarks were made during the commemoration of World Whistleblower Day held in Lusaka.
