Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting households affected by disasters in Chama District through the provision of relief food and other essential commodities.
The district has since received and distributed a consignment of rice, peas and cooking oil to deserving households.
Speaking when he flagged off the distribution exercise, Chama District Commissioner (DC) Yobe Goma said the items were provided through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) families affected by disasters.
“The items include 300 by 50-kilogram bags of rice, yellow peas and 148 boxes of cooking oil meant for selected vulnerable households,” he said.
He has since urged beneficiaries not to sell the relief food and other items they have received, stating that the assistance is intended to improve household food security and support families affected by disasters.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries have expressed gratitude to the government for the timely intervention.
Joyce Kachali, one of the beneficiaries said the relief food will help ease the challenges many households have been facing as a result of floods and other disasters.
“My appeal is that the government continues to provide support to vulnerable communities whenever the need arises,” he indicated.
